Lrm has exclusively learned that as of Wednesday, January 26, the production on the Dark/Web anthology episode “Hacked” has officially begun! Those of you following the progress of the upcoming digital series Dark/Web may recognize the episode title, which was written by one of our readers, Christopher Webster, whose script won over the producers of Dark/Web, and made its way into the actual show.
Dark/Web is a unique hybrid of serialized and anthological storytelling. It contains and overarching narrative, but within each of the episodes is a separate, standalone anthology that somehow plays into the main plot of the story. Webster’s own script will be one of those standalone pieces. Each episode of Dark/Web explores themes related to the internet and the dangers present in the murky, unexplained layers of the web. Paranoia, isolation, vanity, loss of identity, the viral nature of ideas and social...

Raised in the U.S., Claudia (22) is an undocumented illegal immigrant living beyond her means in a twisted version of the American dream. When she's arrested by the FBI for credit card fraud, Claudia is quickly deported to Mexico. Speaking no Spanish and lost in her foreign "homeland," she reluctantly takes refuge at her estranged father's cattle ranch. As she clashes with her unyielding father, she her attempts to return to the U.S. thrust her into a dangerous bond with a foreign smuggler, Ricky. Caught between her father's sermons, Ricky's promises, and the encroaching military, Claudia must navigate a tightrope of impossible choices.
That synopsis is simple enough to follow, right? But, what you’ll find once you begin watching Hostile Border is an engaging thriller. It’s a story that most cannot relate to, and perhaps that is why placing yourself in Claudia's (Vernonica Sixtos) position is so interesting.

*full disclosure: this critic has worked on some publicity for Circle, earlier in 2015. **there are some spoilers here. Directors/writers: Aaron Hann and Mario Miscione. Cast: Julie Benz, Mercy Malick, Carter Jenkins and Autumn Federici. Circle is a psychological horror feature. From Taggart Productions and Votiv Films, the film stars Julie Benz (Saw V), Mercy Malick, Autumn Federici and Michael Nardelli. Circle had its World Premiere at the Seattle International Film Festival, in May of 2015. And, Circle is a compelling feature that looks at people's inherent biases, in a psychological fashion. The characters are diverse, but most of their motivations are unified by their will to survive. Though, some find their own demise a little quicker than others. Overall, the film is an entertaining feature. But, the social message is a little disconcerting; dishonesty has its rewards. The film begins in a large black room. A machine lies in the center,...

Written & Directed by Aaron Hann & Mario Miscione
USA, 2015
Society loves a good label. After all, labels allow us to judge people without the hassle of actually talking to them. But what if these superficial judgements were a matter of life and death? That’s the question posed by the fascinating new psychological thriller, Circle. Writer-directors Aaron Hann and Mario Miscione mix satire, horror, and science fiction into an irresistible social experiment that puts all of us under the microscope. Relentless and gripping, Circle is a battle royal for “civilized” society.
Fifty strangers awaken to find themselves standing inside a circle.
They cannot move.
They cannot touch each other.
And every two minutes, one of them will die.
These are the rules established by the fiendishly clever Circle. What is administering the seemingly random death beam from the center of the circle is not important. All that matters is that...
