The post-apocalyptic indie The Collapsed (still confused as to what that title refers to) has enough psychological thrills to mess with your head, as long as you can put up the with the sub-par acting. The story follows a classic nuclear family as they try to survive in a Walking Dead-esque world. But, instead of running from zombies, they are running from other men; or so it seems.
Jon Fantasia, who plays the patriarch, is the strongest of the actors, which is good considering most of the film hinges on him. The rest of the family is comprised of Steve Vieira as the son, who looks like the younger brother of Ringer’s Kristoffer Polaha (and whose acting is no less offensive); Anna Ross as the petulant daughter, who lost her boyfriend in the vague apocalypse and is worried that she’ll have nothing to do the rest of her...

A family heads out to the country to escape the madness of the city as the world falls victim to a devastating force that is killing off everyone, but are they any safer? Has this force followed them? And could could that be the least of their problems as they have to fight off ordinary citizens who have turned into crazed killers?
Intriguing film where the story feels more like the sub-plot in a bigger film, but it still has enough interesting and unique story tangents to make for satisfying entertainment. The Collapsed starts out a little slow, but once The Collapsed gets going, it doesn't let up. The most admirable quality is that The Collapsed doesn't play it safe. Anyone who has a passing interest in post-apocalyptic motion pictures would do well to thoroughly investigate the first trailer for Justin McConnell’s promising indie feature “The Collapsed”, which, according to Quiet Earth, is being presented at this year’s American Film Market. The story concerns itself with a family of four as they attempt to return home after the proverbial “end of the world”. And while this premise may sound brutally familiar to those of us who frequent these productions, the clip nestled below certainly seems to suggest that McConnell knows exactly what he’s doing. “The Collapsed”, which stars John Fantasia, Steve Vieira, Anna Ross, Lise Moule, and Vincent Thomas, will hopefully see the light of day sometime next year. function getVideo() { var so = new SWFObject("http://cdn.springboard.gorillanation.com/storage/xplayer/yo033.swf", "mplayer", "590", "375", "8", "#000000"); so.addParam("wmode","transparent"); so.addParam("swliveconnect", "true"); so.addParam("allowscriptaccess", "always"); so.

As evidence of the sad reality that financing for independent projects is getting harder and harder to come by, director/producer Justin McConnell of Canadian company Unstable Ground has informed us that production of his upcoming horror film The Eternal has been postponed until 2011. However, that's not stopping McConnell from proceeding with a slightly less ambitious film: The lower budget horror/thriller The Collapsed begins shoots in Toronto during August-September, 2010.
With regard to The Eternal (click here for more info), McConnell says, "The Dtv market is close to dead, and The Eternal as packaged, with the budget and cast that we have attached, is too much of a risk for most investors, given the economy. It’s difficult to get an original independent film budgeted between $2-$3 million off the ground without A-list attachment; therefore, we’re going to rework the project to target a lower production budget and continue to move forward.

A triple threat is on its way, courtesy of Mike West and D.W. Frydendall. The bare bones plot of Body Trade concerns a group of prostitutes who discover how lucrative it is to get involved in the body-harvesting business.
First out of the multi-media gate will be the graphic novel, written by Mike West and illustrated by D.W. Frydendall, followed by the feature film. There will also be a web series, the plot of which continues the feature with the girls on the lam - wounded and strapped for cash. The web series stars Marianne D'Vaz as Mika Monaco, Krista Noguchi as Brandi Bunni, Mary Beth Rix as Suzi Spanx, Sarah Kellner as Candi Cane and Lise Moule as Mona. More info on the series can be found at its Facebook page, where two teaser videos are already posted (and more should follow in August).
Hmmm, we've already seen body harvesting in Turistas and Repo!
