There is a snippet of “The Illiad, or The Poem of Force,” Simone Weil’s 1940 essay about the blind poet Homer’s Trojan War epic, that has always stuck with me: “The progress of the war in the Iliad is simply a continual game of seesaw. The victor of the moment feels himself invincible, even though, only a few hours before, he may have experienced defeat; he forgets to treat victory as a transitory thing.”

Beef is the true currency of the NBA.
Ok, that’s not true. It’s money, like it is everywhere else. But when you read that didn’t it feel right? Everyone involved wants you to think this, to believe that the NBA is a gigantic arena for settling grievances. Stephen A. Smith gets on TV every morning looking to start shit, guys post shady little comments on their Twitter accounts all the time. Public dialogue about the league is nearly always filtered through endless jabbering of players’ relative qualities to each other,...

New York, Dec 22 (Ians) The 2020-21 NBA season will begin with a blockbuster opening-night doubleheader with the Golden State Warriors visiting the Brooklyn Nets and defending champions Los Angeles Lakers taking on the intracity rival LA Clippers.
The opening night on Tuesday will see NBA MVPs Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and LeBron James and two-time NBA Finals Mvp Kawhi Leonard in action. It will also mark the return of Curry, Durant and Kyrie Irving as the trio look primed to put on a spectacle on Day 1.
Durant's first game in 18 months (excluding the preseason) -- and first as a Net -- comes against the team with whom he won two NBA championships and two NBA Finals Mvp awards.
"Every drill that I've done, I've been going as hard as I could. I've been in the league for 14 years. Even if I didn't have an Achilles', I probably wouldn't be 100 per cent.

Toyota plans to teach its well-honed assembly line techniques to community organizations like the St. Bernard Project, a New Orleans recovery initiative. Will it make them better?
The Japanese are legendary for their efficiency, and Toyota is no exception. A few decades ago, the company realized that it could create goodwill among more haphazard manufacturing operations in North America by sharing its efficiency secrets. So in 1992, the Toyota Production System Support Center (Tssc), an organization that shares the techniques of the ultra-streamlined Toyota Production System with Toyota-related suppliers and other companies, was born. Now Toyota plans to teach its efficiency gospel to community organizations like the St. Bernard Project, a New Orleans recovery initiative. Will it work?
The Toyota Production System operates using a number of principles. Among them: waste reduction (not having a lot of extra inventory, just-in-time delivery of parts), letting ideas bubble up from the bottom (supervisors...
