Independent dance label Armada Music — founded in 2003 by Dutch trance DJ and producer Armin van Buuren, Maykel Piron and manager and agent David Lewis — has launched Beat (for “Best Ever Acquired Tracks”), a dance music investment company.
Backed by U.S.-based Pinnacle Financial Partners, the fund plans to invest $100 million in its first two years, with the mission of “acquiring and exploiting recording and music publishing catalogs” amid a flurry of catalog deals across the music sector in recent years. Beat eventually plans to grow its investment to at least $500 million in the coming years.
The investment company’s first acquisitions include two big names. They are for Kms Records’ master recordings catalog from house and techno legend Kevin Saunderson, as well as for the master and publishing catalog of L.A.-based Russian trance DJ and producer Arty, also known as Alpha 9. “Both catalogs of masters will be...

Trance family from all corners of the globe reunited at Dreamstate SoCal the weekend of November 25th, 2016. Just like the year before, the all-trance festival organized by Insomniac Events made for something of a phenomenon – albeit for somewhat different reasons this time around.
That’s not to say any of the core components were missing. All of the hallmarks established in the greater Dreamstate brand’s inauguration last year returned, from both editions’ borderline utopian crowd energy to their expertly curated entertainment rosters. In recent years the SoCal trance scene had practically been sentenced to obscurity while other subsets of the electronic music industry reached unprecedented peaks, but the second installment of Dreamstate’s flagship event once again provided just the experience the genre’s more tenured enthusiasts have longed for.
If this year was any indicator, though, the trance family’s youngest generation may be turning to the dark side.

Update: The full list has been revealed and can be seen below.
Original Post: With the Amsterdam Dance Event now underway, it’s time for the DJ Mag Top 100 to be revealed. As much of a joke as the list has become lately, we all still look forward to it each and every year and though it doesn’t hold too much legitimacy in the eyes of true dance music fans, it’s always interesting to see who ends up coming out on top.
Leaks and rumors have pointed to Martin Garrix emerging as #1 for 2016, something which would certainly make sense given the huge year he’s had. Not to mention he’s also been releasing new tracks left, right and centre this week. With the awards show now streaming live from the Heineken Music Hall, it shouldn’t be too much longer before we figure out whether or not...

Few purveyors of trance boast the kinds of credentials that Ferry Corsten does. The Dutch DJ/producer has made a name for himself as one of the world’s foremost authorities on the genre, and with trance making a triumphant return in the U.S. he’s got a lot on the horizon as well.
Longtime trance fans will remember Corsten and Tiësto’s Gouryella side project from the turn of the millennium. Shortly after Dreamstate SoCal renewed faith in trance as a post-edm commodity, Corsten announced that the project would make a triumphant return – and he’s taken the concept to Atlantis in Australia and Insomniac Events’ Beyond Wonderland in SoCal, among other settings.
A few weeks back, Corsten caught up briefly with We Got This Covered to reflect on the live show in addition to a handful of other topics. Ever the good sport, he even maintained a...

If what took place at Dreamstate this past weekend in SoCal was any indicator, trance is poised for a momentous comeback. As if seeking to ride the wave of the imminent resurgence, trance icon Ferry Corsten has announced that he will bring back his Gouryella project in 2016, and will soon be announcing a series of live shows set to take place throughout the world.
The Gouryella project was originally a 1999 collaboration between Corsten and Tiësto, who was himself arguably the biggest name in trance at one point. Following Tiësto’s 2001 departure from the project, Corsten would collaborate with another Dutch producer named John Ewbank before shelving it for 13 years. However, after releasing a new single through the project titled “Anahera,” he made the decision to relaunch it once and for all.

New World Punx, the brainchild of Markus Schulz and Ferry Corsten, released a monster of a track today called “Bang!”, serving as the duo’s fourth release under the moniker.
Schulz and Corsten set the pace right from the get go, opening “Bang!” with a driving four on the floor kick drum and explosive tribal percussion, while a clanking electro-bassline roars in the background. After nearly a minute, the drums fade into silence as a synthesized melody quietly enters the speakers. The two producers build up the energy, as swells of white noise and rising arpeggios pick up the steam. A vocoded voice repeats throughout the track, commanding listeners to “bang to the beat of the drum.”
New World Punx seem dis-concerned with common Edm structures on “Bang!”, taking their time to let the energy grow organically, while bringing each sound as far as it can go within the composition.

At long last, DJ Mag has unveiled their top 100 DJs list of 2015. While this year’s results made for a predictable, cross section of the mainstream Edm talent pool’s most accomplished echelon, perhaps nothing spoke to the state of the scene as much as the #1 entry.
Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike secured the #1 spot for the first time in their career, all but proving that contemporary dance music is more manufactured than it’s ever been at any point throughout its history. The two artists are famous for enlisting the services of ghostwriters like Maarten Vorwerk to assist in their productions, and engaged in notoriously aggressive marketing campaigns to drum up votes.
More than ever, the results simply prove that the rankings are more for which artists have the biggest marketing budgets than anything else.

The best remixes are those that put an entirely unique spin on the original track that they’re sourcing while pulling off something listenable. Jenaux has accomplished as much and more with his remix of Tritonal’s “Gamma Gamma,” which stood out among the other productions in the track’s recent remix series.
Jenaux already had a strong relationship with the Austin, Texas-based duo having released his massive Pia Toscano collaboration, “Renegades,” on their Enhanced Recordings imprint earlier in the year. His “Gamma Gamma” remix takes an entirely different form, though. Slowed all the way down to 103 Bpm, the primal vocal sample of the original is accompanied by Jenaux’s signature progressive house synth work to result in melodic downtempo that isn’t quite future bass but isn’t quite anything else, either.

It’s been almost a couple months since Tritonal’s electro house banger “Gamma Gamma” made for a bold departure from the Austin, Texas duo’s usual style, but trance heavyweight Ferry Corsten has released a remix that brings a softer touch to the summer anthem. Corsten’s version keeps many of the key elements of the original while making it more palatable to fans on his end of the four-four spectrum, and we’ll go as far as to say that he’s struck a poignant balance.
The most significant addition in Corsten’s version is the rolling bass kicks, which immediately evoke the euphoric spirit of his other releases in the trance realm. The melodic interlude of the original – which may well be its strongest asset – remains wholly intact, but its chugging electro drop is replaced with an airy peak that levels off to leave the listener on a high note.

Ferry Corsten‘s become about as household a name in the trance community as you can get. Between having collaborated with Tiësto under the Gouryella project and touring with Markus Shulz as New World Punx, he’s also managed to carve out a niche as a solo artist in the genre – but if the early releases from his upcoming album are any indicator, he might be moving in a different creative direction.
“Find A Way” is one of two early releases from his upcoming album, Hello World Ep 2. While it still showcases some of Corsten’s signature sparkling sound design elements, it’s irrefutably a house track. Pitch-shifted vocals and a brooding groove give it less main stage appeal than his usual uplifting work, but the song’s execution may earn him more street cred since it comes across as a well-executed departure from the norm. After the initial lineup reveal, which told us that Above & Beyond, Alesso and The Chemical Brothers would be headlining New York’s Electric Zoo this year, the festival has continued to stacks its roster over the past few weeks, promising a “re-energized and recharged” outing for 2015.
Joining those three aforementioned artists are main stage usuals like Dvbbs, Nervo and Zeds Dead, heavier acts like Headhunterz and Excision, some more underground music in the form of Get Real, tropical house master Thomas Jack, quickly rising talent like Audien, Galantis and Cashmere Cat, old school favorites such as Pete Tong and Ferry Corsten and many, many more.
Take a look at the complete list of announced artists for Electric Zoo below and be sure to stay tuned as the lineup is far from finished.

As we inch closer and closer to Tomorrowland, the Belgian festival is beginning to reveal more and more of their curated stages. Announced over the past week or so were the following new additions:

While I’m not terribly familiar with the artists featured on the We Play House or Kozzmozz stages, I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what Ferry Corsten has in store for us with his Full On stage. Boasting names like Audien and Cosmic Gate, it’s sure to be a hotspot at the fest this year and you’ll definitely be able to find us there.
Of course, there are still a whole handful of stages to be announced for Tomorrowland as we’ve still got over three months to go until the festivities kick off. So far, though, things are looking pretty good and you can be sure that ID...

Though it’s been several months since we’ve heard a new track from New World Punx, the super duo made up of Ferry Corsten and Markus Schulz, the boys are back today with another original. Titled “Memories,” the song will officially drop on iTunes on March 9th, but in the meantime, you can take a listen to it via the embed above.
Another impressive effort from Ferry and Markus, the warm and fuzzy song draws you in with its euphoric vocals and feel-good synths, before breaking out into an energetic, electro beat. Sure to go over well at the group’s upcoming Coachella appearance, it’s another strong effort from New World Punx that once again proves to us that even as the Edm world becomes overcrowded with new, young talent, the old guard still stands strong.

Ferry Corsten has released his Hello World Ep today, marking the first of a three part series that promises to “truly showcase his artistic skill and range as a producer.” With seven unique tracks on the disc, the DJ shows off his diversity and technical prowess, delivering songs that span several different genres.
From electro-pop track “Hyper Love” to the brooding and minimalistic “Tonka,” the first part of the Hello World series is an exciting new step for Corsten, as it gives us something fresh from the trance legend while still retaining the same elements that we all know and love about him.
If you haven’t already done so, get a taste of what Ferry Corsten‘s cooked up with the mini-mix below and if you like it as much as we do, be sure to pick up a copy of Hello World over on Beatport.

Finally, all the speculation, rumors and heated arguments can come to an end, as DJ Mag has revealed their infamous Top 100 ranking list of the best DJs in the world. Despite being based on popularity rather than talent, people make a pretty deal out of this list every year, and even though it gets a lot of criticism, it’s always fun to see who comes out on top.
Taking to Twitter earlier today, DJ Mag announced the results of their poll and once again, Hardwell emerged victorious, taking the number one spot for the second year in a row. Not far behind him were all the usual suspects (Tiesto, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Avicii, Martin Garrix etc.) and overall, this list is mostly what everyone predicted from the start, as it always is.
You can check out Hardwell’s official statement on his win below:
“Wow – this is a dream that just keeps going!

If you’re at all into Edm, you’re likely familiar with TomorrowWorld. The North American counterpart to ID&T’s acclaimed and widely loved Tomorrowland, the festival had its rookie outing last year and though it was, by all accounts, a success, there was definite room for improvement. So, heading into its sophomore outing, ravers and critics alike had high hopes for an equally, if not more successful event.
Thankfully, the organizers brought their A-game, as Edm’s heaviest hitters ascended upon Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia to deliver an unforgettable three day experience, one that will no doubt prove ID&T to be every bit as skilled at putting together a festival as their chief rival, Insomniac.
Taking place in the aforementioned Chattahoochee Hills, which is not so conveniently located about an hour outside of Atlanta (thankfully, shuttles were provided from most of the major hotels downtown), TomorrowWorld played host...

Being the No. 1 DJ in the world comes with a certain level of confidence. For Armin van Buuren, it's that self-assurance that keeps all the gears -- the weekly radio show with millions of listeners worldwide, the countless DJ gigs, the top-level stage productions and artist albums -- in motion.
"I don't try to be someone I'm not -- I've always followed my heart and trance has always been my main sound," a fresh-faced van Buuren told HuffPost Entertainment in the first of his many Saturday afternoon interviews at a posh New York nightclub. Later that night, the 36-year-old DJ would headline Madison Square Garden, where he, Ferry Corsten and Markus Schulz, W&W and Alex M.O.R.P.H. brought A State of Trance 600 to thousands of eager ravers. (The "600" means the show had reached its 600th episode. It's a weekly program, so do the math.)

With a new expanded two-weekend format, a massive new main stage structure, and a big 15th anniversary to celebrate, it was obvious Ultra Music Festival would be going big for 2013.
Instead, it went massive. The just-released Phase 2 lineup reveals Ultra will host its most diverse and thorough lineup yet this March in Miami's Bayfront Park: crowd faves like Laidback Luke, Afrojack, Calvin Harris, and Dirty South are back, but the lineup also includes a slew of live acts including Snoop Dogg and Sleigh Bells.
"What we've achieved with this edition's ocean of talent and stage production is we feel unprecedented," said Ultra founder, CEO and president Russell Faibisch. "As the industry we work in continues to explode, with so much talent emerging and the taste of our consumer changing in the process, diversity was key."

A year ago, nearly every music website and magazine was publishing trend pieces tracking the explosion of electronic dance music in America. Fast-forward to the present, and nearly every general interest magazine and website is publishing similar stories, with the added clarity of hindsight.
But for Above & Beyond, a trance DJ and production trio known for melodic compositions and a deeply personal connection with their fans, none of this is news. Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness, and Paavo Siljamäki have been creating dance music for over a decade, releasing three studio albums, two remix albums and countless compilations and singles along the way. The cumulative affect: a devoted following that numbers in the millions.
Festival-goers and office-earbud ravers alike are familiar with the group, whose Trance Around the World radio show draws tens of millions of listeners each week. The trio is coming to New York this Labor Day weekend for two sets at Electric Zoo,...

All of the information captured can then be posted onto Facebook. Amsterdam Worldwide developed the app for Olmeca Tequila. Exclusive content from DJ Ferry Corsten will be included thanks to an ongoing partnership between the artist and the drinks brand.
