Citing her desire to give them more control over their lives, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark has relieved four of her grandchildren of their royal titles, the royal palace revealed on Sept. 28.
"With her decision, Her Majesty The Queen wishes to create the framework for the four grandchildren to be able to shape their own lives to a much greater extent without being limited by the special considerations and duties that a formal affiliation with the Royal House of Denmark as an institution involves," the palace's statement read.
The queen originally bestowed royal titles on all of her grandchildren, per the palace's statement. As of today, Margrethe's second son Joachim's children will no longer be referred to as prince and princess and "his/her highness." The United Kingdom's royal family has seemingly cornered the market on intrigue, but their neighbors to the northeast haven't exactly been resting on their historical laurels. The sprawling Swedish monarchy has actually been going toe-to-toe with the Brits for centuries as far as the stuff of legend goes (England had Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I vs. Mary, Queen of Scots, but...Vikings!), and though nowadays a British royal can't say a word without it being news, the Swedes know how to make every kind of headline—and they've made them all. Presided over for 48 years by King Carl XVI Gustaf, the Swedish royal family has been enmeshed...

Tuesday marked National Day in Sweden, and the royal family celebrated by releasing two precious portraits of Princess Estelle, 5, and Prince Oscar, 1. The daughter of Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel is pictured wearing a traditional Swedish dress, while her little brother is shown in a striped shirt and light-colored pants. Both photos were taken on the grounds of Haga Palace, where the kids live with their parents. Back in April, we caught another adorable glimpse of Estelle and Oscar during King Carl XVI Gustaf's 71st birthday. Even though it was the king's big day, it was his grandchildren who stole the spotlight with their cute antics. Hopefully we'll get to see more of the royal family in the months to come.

On Thursday, the royal mom-to-be joined her husband at Stockholm's Royal Palace to meet United Nations ambassadors. And once again, she wrapped her bump in blue - this time, a deep royal-blue hue with a pleated skirt and ribbon tie. According to the Swedish outlet Svenskdam, she borrowed the dress from Victoria.
