HBO Max is developing a series version of “You Brought Me the Ocean,” the YA graphic novel about the origins of DC’s Aqualad, Variety has learned from sources.

The live-action, one-hour dramedy is based on characters from DC and the graphic novel by Alex Sanchez and Jul Maroh. The series will explore the life of Jackson “Jake” Hyde, a gay teenager living in New Mexico. All his life, he has had a strange attraction to the water and yearns to escape his desert surroundings for the ocean. As he explores his abilities, including breathing under and controlling water, he also finds himself falling in love with his classmate, high school swim captain Kenny Liu.

No writer is currently attached to the project. Charlize Theron, A.J. Dix, Beth Kono, and Andrew Haas of Denver & Delilah Films will executive produce. Warner Bros. Television is the studio.

HBO Max declined to comment.

Charlize Theron is getting into the superhero producing business.

The Mad Max: Fury Road and Tully star is executive producing You Brought Me The Ocean, based on characters from DC and the young adult graphic novel by Alex Sanchez and Jul Maroh. The dramedy series is in development at HBO Max, sources tell Deadline.

Theron is exec producing the adaptation via her Denver & Delilah Films, along with the company’s Aj Dix, Beth Kono and Andrew Haas. Warner Bros. Television is the studio.

You Brought Me The Ocean stems from the first-look production deal with HBO and HBO Max Theron signed last year. A rep for HBO Max declined comment.

The DC comic You Brought Me The Ocean, published in 2020, is about a closeted teenager dealing with his sexuality as well as his emerging superpowers.

It follows Jake Hyde, who doesn’t swim, but moves to college on the coast.

Exclusive: HBO Max is developing The Final Girl Support Group, a TV series based on New York Times bestselling author Grady Hendrix’s horror novel of the same name. The project hails from Oscar winner Charlize Theron and her Denver & Delilah Films, It duo Barbara and Andy Muschietti’s Double Dream as well as Aperture Entertainment.

The novel’s title refers to a Los Angeles–based therapeutic support group for six “final girls”— survivors of mass-murderer rampages whose experiences inspired the slasher franchises that saturated horror cinema in the 1980s and ’90s, earning them minor celebrity. The book was released Tuesday, July 13 by Random House/Berkley.

Andy Muschietti is set to direct the pilot. Theron, Aj Dix, Beth Kono and Andrew Haas will executive produce for Denver & Delilah Films, along with Barbara and Andy Muschietti and Irene Yeung for Double Dream and Adam Goldworm for Aperture Entertainment. Hendrix also will serve as an executive producer.

Under the deal, Theron and her company will develop TV projects for both the premium cabler and the streamer, looking to add to its TV slate which previously included David Fincher’s “Mindhunter,” and “Girlboss,” the series created by Kay Cannon. On the unscripted front, Denver & Delilah produced car series “Hyperdrive.”

Andrew Haas, who recently joined the company, will oversee Denver & Delilah’s television slate. The company was previously under a first-look at Universal Cable Productions.

Charlize Theron has signed a two-year first-look TV deal with HBO and HBO Max, a WarnerMedia spokesperson told TheWrap Tuesday.

The multi-year, cross-platform pact will see the “Bombshell” star and her producing partners Beth Kono and Aj Dix develop small-screen projects for the WarnerMedia-owned pay TV channel and newly launched streaming service through their Denver & Delilah production company, with Andrew Haas overseeing the TV series slate.

HBO Max debuted in May and boasts a lineup of originals that includes the first season of anthology “Love Life,” which starred Anna Kendrick, and the Kaley Cuoco dramedy “The Flight Attendant,” among others.

Theron’s Denver & Delilah banner, which previously had a deal with Universal Content Productions, has produced multiple series, including David Fincher’s “Mindhunter,” the now-ended “Girlboss” and the unscripted series “Hyperdrive,” all at Netflix.

After CBS yesterday wrapped its round of early pickups of the series it considered no-brainers for renewal, it has started to shed the weakest of the rest. Monday comedy Living Biblically has been pulled from the schedule effective immediately. Starting next week, it will be replaced by repeats of The Big Bang Theory.

The move is not a surprise. Living Biblically is CBS’ least watched series this season and tied for last place in adults 18-49 (Live+same day). CBS earlier this season also pulled freshman Monday comedy Me, Myself & I off the schedule after several modestly rated airings. Neither is expected to return next season.

Through its eight airings to date, Living Biblically averaged 4.2 million viewers and a 0.65 18-49 rating (L+Sd).

CBS has pulled “Living Biblically” from its primetime schedule, with reruns of “The Big Bang Theory” to run in its place.

Sources say the sitcom could return at a later date.

The sitcom follows a man who decides to live as instructed in the Bible, based on A.J. Jacobs’ book “The Year of Living Biblically.” Jay R. Ferguson stars with Lindsey Kraft, Ian Gomez, David Krumholtz, Tony Rock, and Camryn Manheim. “The Big Bang Theory” star Johnny Galecki executive produces with writer Patrick Walsh and Andrew Haas and Spencer Medof.

The comedy is produced by Alcide Bava Productions, in association with CBS Television Studios and Warner Bros. Television.

As far as pilots go, the network has ordered eight comedy pilots, including the revival of “Murphy Brown.” Other comedy pilots include “25,” “Fam,” “History of Them,” “I Mom So Hard,” “Pandas in New York,” “Welcome to the Neighborhood,” and the untitled Austen Earl and Tim McAuliffe project.

“Big Bang Theory” repeats will air in the show’s Monday timeslot for the next two weeks. No return date has been set, though the show could return to burn off the remainder of its episodes at a later date. The move does not bode well for a potential second season. CBS has thus far renewed 17 of their current series, but none of their Monday comedies. “Kevin Can Wait,” “Man With a Plan,” and “Superior Donuts” are all awaiting words on potential third seasons. Fellow Monday series “Scorpion” is also currently in limbo.

A sequel for "Green Lantern" is still possible to hit the big screen, despite its disappointing box office performance. Warner Bros. Pictures points out that they still put the DC Comic-adapted movie as a top priority and even already have a plan for the sequel, revealing that it will be "edgier and darker."

"We had a decent opening so we learned there is an audience," Jeff Robinov, WB's film group President, told Los Angeles Times. "To go forward we need to make it a little edgier and darker with more emphasis on action... And we have to find a way to balance the time the movie spends in space versus on Earth."

“Green Lantern” Star Flies by Miramar to Kick Off Father’s Day Weekend with Advance Screening

Burbank, CA, June 16, 2011 – Ryan Reynolds, the star of Warner Bros. Pictures’ epic action adventure “Green Lantern,” made a special appearance at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar today to herald the opening of the new film and introduce an advance screening in the on-base Bob Hope Theater. In appreciation of our troops, he also announced that the Studio will be hosting Father’s Day weekend showings at 12 additional military bases around the country, in recognition of the “Joining Forces” campaign initiated by First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden (www.whitehouse.gov/joiningforces).

The Green Lantern shined his light in downtown St. Louis last night. The location was a secret but a couple of hundred fans, collectively known as ‘The Green Lantern Corps’ figured out that it was at Poelker Park in Downtown St. Louis. The light projection started at 9pm and the Green Lantern symbol was projected onto the Civil Courts Building for several hours. The first 75 fans that showed up received Green Lantern T-Shirts, Glowing Rings, and passes for the sneak screening of the movie this Wednesday evening. It turns out that Warner Bros. was "smarter than the average bear" when they produced the Yogi Bear movie. Though many panned it, the film was a success and the studio is moving forward with plans for a sequel.

Based on the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon character, Yogi Bear premiered last December to a $16.4 million opening. That's not a great start but the picture ended up averaging more than $100 million before it left U.S. theaters. It also grossed another $100 million internationally and you just know they must have sold a lot of DVDs.

According to Variety, Warner's has signed the Yogi Bear writing team of Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia to pen the script. Donald De Line and Karen Rosenfelt will produce once again with Andrew Haas as executive producer.

Are you ready for another trip to Jellystone Park? For quite despite last December’s Yogi Bear’s critical mawling (to the tune of 13% on Rotten Tomatoes), Warner Bros. are pushing forward with a sequel.

Blowing conservative estimations with a $100 million U.S. haul (and having grossed another $100 million internationally), Yogi Bear – which starred Dan Aykroyd as the titular bear and Justin Timberlake as his accomplice, Boo-Boo – showed incredibly long legs at the box office.

With Rio’s Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia signed as writers, and Donald De Line and Karen Rosenfelt returning as producers, Andrew Haas will once again executive produce as Jon Berg oversees production on the sequel for Warners.

At the very least – because I’m a picnic-basket-is-half-full – Yogi Bear 2 will give Warners reason to develop another Roadrunner and Coyote short to precede their film with. At the very least.

The highly anticipated Green Lantern movie, in theatres on June 17, 2011, will be the first live-action feature film to star the popular DC Comics character. The film relates the origin story of alter ego Hal Jordan (Reynolds), a test pilot and the first human chosen to wear the ring that provides him his superpowers.

Four "Green Lantern" clips have been screened during CinemaCon on Friday, April 1. After the first trailer did not receive positive responds from fans, Warner Bros. has revealed 10 minutes of footage from the Martin Campbell-directed film.

The first clip sees Abin-Sur talking to Sinestro. While Sinestro tells him about a planet destroyed by Parallax, Abin-Sur is attacked by the enemy which is shown as a creature with a large yellow head and sharp teeth. Abin-Sur is suffered from injury and escapes in a pod. Unfortunately, he crashes lands on Earth.

The second video features dying Abin-Sur and his spaceship in the water. Hal Jordan comes and tries to save the alien by pulling him out of the ship. Later, he is recruited as the replacement of Abin-Sur by receiving his ring, and is told to use the ring with the lantern in Abin-Sur's spaceship.

Warner Bros. has announced that the video game tie-in to it’s upcoming Green Lantern film starring Ryan Reynolds, entitled Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters will be Warner Bros Interactive’s first Nintendo 3Ds title. The game will also be available on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, and Nintendo DS.

I am still waiting to be blown away by Green Lantern. I guess it’s still far off from getting a perfect adaptation. Still, the thought of Ryan Reynolds in the lead role and Martin Campbell directing, you would expect something to blow you away and make you say, ‘this is the movie we have been waiting for.’ The first two minute and twenty seven second trailer seems to just underwhelm and I can’t put my finger on why that is. Still, it has a cool Iron Man/Star Trek vibe too it and all the blockbuster elements for a fun film, but I guess I am expecting something epic. Maybe I should lower these expectations. That being said, Warner Brothers has released the first trailer for the film along with a new piece of promo art.

The first footage from director Martin Campbell’s Green Lantern has hit the net as Entertainment Tonight has released a preview for their Tuesday show. It appears that on Tuesday, they’ll be world premiering footage from the Ryan Reynolds movie and to get you to tune in, they’ve released 30 seconds from the movie. If you’ve been waiting to see what Reynolds costume looks like as it’s all CGI, hit the jump. You’ll also get a look at Blake Lively, another Green Lantern (I won’t spoil who), and you’ll get a taste of the first comic book movie to take place partly on another planet. What are you waiting for!
