He was awarded the C.M.G. (Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George) in 1965; Knight Commander of the Order of St. Michael and St. George in 1972; Grand Cross of the Order of St. Michael and St. George in 1977; and Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order in 1991 for his services to government.
