Remember when Grange Hill went to the Isle Of Wight? Or the escaped puma? Here are 12 memorable school trip episodes from the early years...
With just over thirty years worth of screen time, there are plenty of memorable moments in Grange Hill. From its inception in February 1978 the programme proved both entertaining and controversial. It tackled many difficult subjects head-on: bullying, vandalism, racism, censorship, shop-lifting, school uniform protest, teenage pregnancy and - most famously of all - drugs. However, every now and again it would attempt to give viewers a break from the everyday and head off on a day trip or weekend excursion.

Nick is on a slab, and now the fun part begins … the investigation! No really, it’ll be fun.
We start with Alli screaming again and Julie screeching again. Julie says ‘Who did this to you?” but Nick passes out. Sami rushes over to Alli, and tells her not to look at the dead man, while Rafe walks up to see if he can help Julie with Nick. Julie screams “Get Back! You Hate Him. You All Hate Him!” You know, that hitman is still around, Julie. All it would take is one call.
The others try to approach, but Julie screams at all of them not to come any closer. Hope arrives, and the paramedics are not far behind. Julie Hisses at the paramedics “Get Away! I Don’T Know You, But You Probably Hate Nick, Too!”
The paramedics cart Nick away, with most of the Town Square Gang Of Suspects not far behind.

This weekend, Star Trek Into Darkness hits theaters and the common consensus among reviewers seems to be that Jj Abrams' adaptation of the beloved series is even better this time around. The thing we're most excited about, of course, is Zoe Saldana's return as a young Nyota Uhura. Apparently Saldana's role is much bigger this time around, which means the Star Trek sequel is a can't miss for us!
Of course, lesbian and bisexual women are not strangers to the world of science fiction. In fact, we often find better representation in the fantasy realm than in any other genre. And even when we don't find queer women to swoon over, we find powerful women to root for.

Yesterday, in unveiling the 10 Bitchiest Commenters of 2010, I noted that we used to rank the most prolific commenters each year but that, with 430,000 comments in the system, it would no longer be feasible. I was wrong. Steven Lloyd Wilson showed me how to do it on the site's Mysql database (which I like to pronounce My Squall to annoy programmer types). Steven Lloyd Wilson is some kind of genius. Seriously, people -- most of you probably don't realize how incredibly brilliant Slw is: You know he's got a Master's in Engineering, a Master's in History, and he's currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program from political science? Dude's got both sides of the brain covered.
Anyway, once he showed me how, it took about 30 seconds to come up with the list of the Most Prolific Commenters of 2010, which thus allows me to name check everyone who commented more than 200 times this year (sorry,...

I didn't see last night's "The Office" because I was too busy getting my drank on with some of the funnest bitches on the planet, (otherwise known as Julie, Boo and Tracer Bullet) however I'm led to believe Jim and Pam finally had that baby of theirs last night? (Hairballs)
Ben Storey, a.k.a. Kamakaze Feminist, put together this charming piece on what to have for dinner on Oscar night. (Famous Dead White Guys)
What do you guys think? Can there even be a Freddy Krueger without Robert Englund? Either way, that movie looks scary as shit and I hope my boyfriend doesn't drag me to go see it. (Agent Bedhead)
The infinitely entertaining Rich from FourFour started a fun new tumblr page with screenshots of where he pauses DVDs and DVR. (Where I Pause)
Stephen King's Pet Sematary is getting remade, presumably because Stephen King hasn't written...

The title says it all. The year's almost over and...well, why shouldn't I do this list?
Here's how I went about it. I looked through all of this year's Ee columns (including those that came before the hiatus) and well, just looked. And the ranking doesn't really matter, except for my number one. Oh, and the top five. Because I rule this joint. And that's all.
Happy New Year!
20. What frigging help is it to the narrative for me to find out that some dude is riding an Otis elevator? As opposed to ... well, whatever other company makes elevators? --eddie
Not sure if you get them in other countries, but I occasionally come across elevators made by a company called Schindler. Which, of course, leads to me giggling out loud every time I enter one, before pointing at the Schindler logo and saying "Schindler's Lift!" to anyone else who...

Universe, you've done it again!
Hello my fine friends. I'm covering for Figglesticks this week because she's busy trying not to kill everyone in sight while prepping for her wedding this weekend. Hopefully by the time this gets posted I'll have completed the four-hour drive from D.C. to my parents place in New York. I was previously planning on going to Atlanta to spend the holidays with family until I realized that all I wanted for Christmas was to be left the hell alone. 2009 was kind of a shitshow, so my plans for the rest of it are to basically, keep my head down and ride it out as smoothly as a one can while being alternately drunk off their ass and full of hot chocolate. But if there's one thing that has made this year easier to bear, it's you freaks (and many, many meths). It's a pretty...

Looks like we're in for a few packed weeks of DVD releases leading up to Christmas, so get your wallets out and prepare to start emptying them. The biggest release in stores today is Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which is obviously an essential purchase if you are a fan. Outside of that, we've also got Michael Mann's Public Enemies, Julie & Julia and the Robin Williams dark comedy World's Greatest Dad, plus a few cool docs including the Oscar shortlisted The Cove, and Oscilloscope's Beautiful Losers. Also, you know you want these two beautiful box sets: Criterion's Ak 100: 25 Films by Akira Kurosawa and Lost: The Complete Fifth Season (Dharma Initiation Kit). Will you be picking up anything this week? Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince [1] (DVD, Blu-ray [2]) Public Enemies [3] (DVD, Blu-ray [4]) Julie & Julia [5] (DVD, Blu-ray [6]) World's Greatest Dad [7] (DVD, Blu-ray [8]) Home Movie [9] Lion's Den [10] The Skeptic [11] Humble Pie [12] Hooking Up [13] Run!
