Maury Wills, whose long tenure with the Los Angeles Dodgers began the year after the team moved to the West Coast in the late 1950s and included three World Series championships, died September 19 at his home in Sedona, Az, the team said Tuesday. He was 89.
Wills, a five-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove-winning shortstop, was a prolific base-stealer credited with helping to bring the craft back to baseball as an offensive strategy. After stealing 50 bases in 1960 in his first year with the Dodgers, in 1962 he became the first player in the modern age to reach 100 steals in a season, finishing with 104 to break Ty Cobb’s record that had stood for 47 years, earning him the Nl Mvp Award. He is 20th on baseball’s all-time steals list.

It’s been a dozen years now since 2002, but thanks to VH1′s I Love the 2000s, we can be reminded of what a great year it actually was. Serena Williams was the No. 1 tennis player in the world, Jennifer Lopez’s latest breakup was in the headlines, and zombies were the latest craze at the movies.
Clearly, much has changed in the world since then.
Of course, in all seriousness, VH1 also spotlighted plenty of other nostalgia-worthy phenomena hyper-specific to 2002 and 2003—like the return of the movie musical, Nelly’s evergreen musical reason to take your clothes off, and...

Former Disney chief Michael Eisner, who is in talks to become chairman of Tribune Co.'s board, recently played reporter to write his upcoming book, "Working Together: Why Great Partnerships Succeed." Here is an e-mail he sent to friends about the book Wednesday.
Dear Friends,
As the summer comes to a close, I wanted to send you a note to let you know that I'm eagerly anticipating the release of my book, Working Together: Why Great Partnerships Succeed, which will be published by HarperCollins on September 14th.
This all began about a decade ago when I found myself trying to figure out why my partnership with Frank Wells at Disney was so magical for us. Then I started thinking about partnerships in general, about great combos in business and in life, about the elusive nature of "working together." We're all brought up in a world of sharing, from birth to at least through 6th grade,...
