The hustle of show business means people not-infrequently have two projects hitting the market at the same time.
Even so, filmmaker Nick Davis is the creative force behind one of the more unusual doubleheaders in recent memory. He directed ESPN “30 for 30” limited series Once Upon a Time in Queens, an account of the World Series-winning, earth-scorching 1986 New York Mets. The two-night, four hour docuseries, whose executive producers include Jimmy Kimmel, premieres tonight and concludes tomorrow. Also today, Knopf has published Davis’s book, Competing with Idiots, a dual portrait of Joseph and Herman Mankiewicz that had been in the works for nearly two decades. The Hollywood royals were his great-uncle and grandfather, respectively.
“I’ve thought about what common ground there is between these projects,” Davis said in an interview with Deadline. “And I think what it is is that I have no memory of not being Herman Mankiewicz’s grandson.

The 1986 World Series-winning run by the New York Mets will get multi-part documentary treatment by ESPN in a project under the 30 for 30 banner whose executive producers include Jimmy Kimmel.
ESPN Films said Thursday the series would chronicle the team’s exploits on and off the field. In the Series, the Boston Red Sox were one strike away from victory before a two-out rally and a ground ball hit by Mookie Wilson slipped through the legs of Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner. The comeback, ESPN said in a press release, “was merely the climax of an epic tale of ambition and swagger set in a city that was synonymous with excess.”
The network promises “hours of never-before-seen footage” of the team, a group of disparate, larger-than-life characters who made a big impression on and off the field. Many members of the team went on to generate headlines long after 1986, among them Darryl Strawberry,...

The house that hockey built is back on the market! Wayne Gretzky had this custom compound built for himself and his family back in 2002. They enjoyed the incredible estate for five years, before another athlete swooped in and purchased the 10,815-square-foot pad for $18.5 million in 2007. Embattled former baseball player Lenny Dykstra inhabited the home (and did not, apparently, treat it well) before it was sold for auction in 2010. The house, which is located behind the gates of Thousand Oaks' prestigious Sherwood Country Club Estates, was completely renovated by the new owners and is being offered for $15 million. 16. Richard Gere
Used to joke that Gere was the type of guy who would put on a robe, walk into a liquor store, ask for the most expensive bottle of champagne, smash it on the floor and say "I'll take 12". After this Dwight Howard saga, I kind of dig Gere's style.
15. Lenny Dykstra
Dykstra is in jail for bankrupcy fraud. But at least he's making us laugh. A few months ago it was reported he was cutting holes in his sheets, putting his weiner through the hole and flashing inmates. C'mon that's funny, right?
14. Justin Guarini
Haha. Guarini.
13. Joan Rivers
At least she admits her face looks like a $349.99 boot.
12. Gordon Ramsay
I watched this guy taste a contestant's dish, spit it on the floor in front of him and say, "Hmmm I see you've encrusted your pastry in crap." I actually love this guy.

Paul Blart. The Zookeeper.

Former "Sopranos" and "Entourage" star Jamie-Lynn Sigler may have found herself a new man in the son of former Mlb star Lenny Dykstra. According to Page Six, Sigler and Cutter Dykstra, who plays minor league baseball in the Washington Nationals organization, have been dating "for a few months and things are going really well." The source adds he or she hasn't seen Sigler this happy in a long time.
Sigler, 30, reportedly was introduced to Dykstra, 22, through mutual friends Nick Swisher, who plays for the Yankees, and his wife, actress Joanna Garcia. Jamie-Lynn has previously been linked to Mark Sanchez, quarterback for the New York Jets.

Charlie Sheen's shamed baseball star pal Lenny Dykstra has been sentenced to three years behind bars for his part in a grand theft auto (GTA) case.
The former New York Mets player pleaded no contest in October to allegations he tried to lease luxury cars from several Los Angeles dealerships last year by providing fraudulent financial information.
The plea was part of a deal with prosecutors, which saw him charged with three counts of felony GTA and one charge of submitting false statements to a financial institution, while another 21 counts were dropped.
Dykstra faced up to four years in prison for the crimes, but last week (ends04Mar12) he attempted to change his plea to not guilty, claiming he was not fully informed about what he was copping to when he agreed to a settlement with authorities.
However, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge refused to allow the alteration and ordered him to serve three years in a California state prison.
He was taken into custody immediately after the hearing.
The GTA case was the latest in a string of legal problems for Dykstra - the former sportsman, who has been embroiled in bankruptcy proceedings, was also arrested in April on suspicion of illegally removing and selling personal property from his home without official permission.
Actor Sheen came to his troubled friend's rescue at the time and reportedly posted his $150,000 (£93,750) bail.
