The world champion Chicago Cubs visited the White House on Monday, following a Twitter invitation extended by the president back in November after the team cinched the big win against the Cleveland Indians.
Though typically a White Sox fan, Obama welcomed the first Cubs team to win the World Series in 108 years with open arms, joking during his livestream speech, "It took you long enough!"
"Even I was not crazy enough to suggest that, during these eight years, we would see the Cubs win the World Series," he continued, before mentioning First Lady Michelle Obama's longtime fandom. "Flotus is a lifelong Cubs fan."

Former Cincinnati Reds shortstop Barry Larkin is the sole player elected by the Baseball Writers Association of America for 2012. He received 495 out of 573 votes, which is 86%, well above the needed 75% for election. This was Larkin's third time on the ballot.
The ceremony will take place July 22 in Cooperstown, New York. Ron Santo, legendary Cubs third baseman who eventually lost both lower legs to diabetes, will also be inducted. Santo was voted in by the Veterans Committee back in December.
"I'm just incredibly, incredibly moved by this whole experience and so humbled by the experience and so excited about being the newest member of the Hall of Fame," says Larkin, in a conference call with the press.
Larkin was a 12-time all star, who won the Nl Mvp in 1995 and in 1996, became the first ever shortstop to have 30 home runs and 30 steals in a season. He helped the Reds win a...

As long as the Chicago Cubs are baseball's perennial losers, people will remember Steve Bartman and what he did on October 13, 2003. And that picture above is just how they'll remember him: Cubs hat, black sweatshirt, dorky green turtleneck, even dorkier headphones so he could listen to the game on the radio. How could they remember him any other way? After the fateful night when he got between Cubs left fielder Moises Alou and a catchable foul ball and set off a chain of events that led to the Cubs' implosion in the National League Championship Series and made him the target of an entire city's hatred, Bartman dropped off the face of the Earth. A lifelong, die-hard Cubs fan, Bartman issued an apology to Alou, the Cubs, and even old players like Ron Santo and Ernie Banks, then never spoke publicly about the incident again. It's as if he felt...

Today marked a sad day of remembrance for Chicago Cubs fans with the passing of former third baseman Ron Santo. Unless you're an avid Twitter reader, however, you may not have known that the Major League Baseball legend played a big role in actor Gary Sinise's life. You can read about that among the retweets below.

Ron Santo, one of the most beloved Chicago Cubs of all time, died Thursday night (Dec. 2) at his home in Arizona. He was 70 years old.
Santo, who played 15 seasons in the major leagues and was a Cubs radio broadcaster for 20 years, died of complications from bladder cancer after falling into a coma Wednesday. He had also suffered from diabetes, which resulted in the amputation of his legs, but continued to work Cubs games, which he said were "like therapy for me."
"He absolutely loved the Cubs," Santo's broadcast partner, Pat Hughes, tells the Chicago Tribune. "The Cubs have lost their biggest fan."
Santo had a Hall of Fame-worthy career -- in an era where power numbers weren't as prolific, he hit 342 home runs and drove in more than 1,300 runs -- but has fallen just short of enshrinement in Cooperstown numerous times. Santo said he was always hopeful that he would get the call,...
