Expect new headlines soon out of “CBS Evening News.”
After being overhauled in major fashion earlier this year, the venerable evening newscast, which has direct ties to Walter Cronkite and Dan Rather, is likely to get some new twists and tweaks. The program, according to two people familiar with CBS News, is seen as being at the of a to-do list for Tom Cibrowski, the executive recently named to lead CBS News and whose decision-making has even more potency after his direct superior, Wendy McMahon, announced on Monday her plans to leave the company.
The show has lost a significant chunk of its viewership since a new format was unveiled in January that relies on the dual-anchor team of John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois, and a story mix that hinges more closely on enterprise and feature reporting than it does on breaking news. For the five-day period starting May 5, “CBS...

Lester Holt’s next job has him working a role he hasn’t held in a very long time: the new guy.
When Holt, who has anchored “NBC Nightly News” for the past decade through coronavirus, the rise of President Trump and a steady increase of horrific shootings across the nation, steps away from the desk on May 30th, he will do it with the knowledge that he still has a few stories to tell. He will start contributing more frequently to “Dateline,” the NBC newsmagazine that in recent years has focused on true-crime stories — and become a major contributor to the news division’s revenue in the process.
Holt, 66 years old, is a regular “Dateline” presence, but usually as the host of the show, not the teller of the stories that fill its hour. “The big buy-in was to be able to do more of the hours,” the anchor...

Midway through Donald Trump’s 100-day interview with ABC’s Terry Moran, the president got flustered.
“Terry, they’re giving you the big break of a lifetime. You know, you are doing the interview. I picked you because, frankly, I never heard of you, but that’s Ok,” Trump said Tuesday during the primetime sit-down.
They were sparring over Trump’s claim that Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the migrant that courts have ordered returned to the U.S. after being deported to a prison in El Salvador, had gang affiliations. More specifically, Moran was challenging Trump’s contention that a photo showed him with the letters Ms-13 on his knuckles.
“He had some tattoos that were interpreted that way,” Moran said.
Trump interjected, “Terry. Terry. Don’t do that. It says Ms 13.”
“That was photoshopped,” Moran said.
“That was photoshopped? Terry, you can’t do that.”
They went on.

As the Washington press corp prepare to gather for this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, the TV news business appears to be in flux. MSNBC and CNBC are being spun out by Comcast, with new strategies likely to follow; CNN chief Mark Thompson is attempting to build a new digital focus for the original 24/7 cable news channel, and Fox News is leaning into its linear strengths while preparing to launch a streaming offering inside Fox Corp.
At the broadcast networks, NBC News had a changing of the guard at its evening newscast, and CBS News did too, but a possible settlement over a 60 Minutes segment has the news division on edge.
UTA vice chairman Jay Sures is helping his firm’s clients, who include the likes of Anderson Cooper, Chuck Todd, Norah O’Donnell, Fareed Zakaria, Jen Psaki, Abby Phillip, Jake Tapper and David Muir (among many others) navigate all of it.

Pope Francis’ funeral will take place Saturday, April 26 in Italy, meaning it will be early in the morning for most wanting to watch from America. The pontiff’s passing on Easter Monday, April 21 followed a respiratory tract infection, for which he was hospitalized for five weeks in February. ABC News has slammed reports of beef between two of its top anchors as “ridiculous gossip,” saying that claims of on-air tension and behind-the-scenes disputes are completely “unfounded.” The news network’s statement came after a report from Breaker Media, which claimed Good Morning America stars George Stephanopoulos and Robin Roberts have a “chilly” relationship. One part of the report claims that Stephanopolous prefers to play chess on his phone rather than even look at Roberts during off-air moments. Breaker also claimed that the culture at ABC News, the network that broadcasts Good Morning America, is “secretive and cold.” “This is unfounded, ridiculous gossip designed to get clicks and nothing more,” an ABC spokesperson told The U.S. Sun. This isn’t the first time Stephanopoulos has been at the center of rumor and speculation regarding his relationships with his co-workers. The U.S. Sun previously reported that Stephanopoulos clashed with...

As the volatile network news market continues amid declining ratings, slashed budgets and uncertainty among staffers, “CBS Mornings” is the latest program seeing significant behind the scenes changes, following similar reports at ABC News.
According to the New York Post, the morning show co-hosted by Gayle King, Nate Burleson and Tony Dokoupil is set to move back to its former home at the CBS Broadcast Center on West 57th Street in New York City after spending the last four years at its more luxurious and technologically advanced studio in Times Squares, located at 1515 Broadway.
“It’s all about saving money,” an insider at the network reportedly told the outlet. “This is another example of them [CBS News] not competing. It’s going back in time.”
The move is set to take place in September and comes as the show averaged a mere 1.869 million viewers and a 1.2 rating/10 share among Households...

Both cases remained unsolved for decades until law enforcement partnered with Othram, a state-of-the-art forensic lab. The lab’s cutting-edge DNA technology enabled authorities to solve these cold cases, leading to the arrest of the perpetrators.

Veteran “NBC Nightly News” anchor Lester Holt announced Monday he is stepping away from the program he has hosted for the last decade at the start of the summer.
“The time has come for me to step away from my role as anchor of ‘Nightly News.’ It has truly been the honor of a lifetime to work with each of you every day, keeping journalism as our true north and our viewers at the center of everything we do,” Holt said in a memo to staffers Monday.
Holt’s exit will coincide with his 10th anniversary of being named the “Nightly News” anchor in June 2015; prior to getting the top news job at NBC, Holt hosted the weekend edition of the nightly news program for eight years and was a co-anchor on “Weekend Today” for 12 years.

CBS News’ recent changes that were meant to entice viewers seem to be failing as the network’s Evening News program continues its ratings woes following the exit of longtime anchor Norah O’Donnell. Veteran journalist O’Donnell anchored her final episode of Evening News on January 23. She was replaced by John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois for a new-look version of the program, which took on a more 60 Minutes-style style magazine format. Rather than rattling through the headlines, the new show provides longer segments on specific topics. However, it appears the new format is struggling to connect with viewers, as CBS Evening News saw a 24 percent drop in the 25-54 demographic when compared to the same period last year, per Nielsen ratings. In comparison, David Muir‘s World News Tonight on ABC has seen an 8 percent annual gain in the 25-54 demographic, while Lester Holt‘s Nightly News on NBC has seen...
