Anyone who has tried to secure tickets to a concert in recent years knows that the system is broken. Luckily, many top acts know it is broken, too, and want something done about it.
Over 250 artists, including Billie Eilish, Dave Matthews, Lorde, Sia, Train, Graham Nash, Green Day, Cyndi Lauper, Fall Out Boy, Chappell Roan, Becky G, Béla Fleck, Jason Mraz, Yes, Mgmt, Blue Öyster Cult and many others have lent their names to bills currently put before congress, the Fans First Act and The Ticket Act, which basically pokes holes in the current ticketing system that frequently drives up prices and creates an unfair secondary market. The bills by members of both parties, like Republican Texas senator John Cornyn and Democratic Minnesota senator Amy Klobuchar.

More than 250 recording artists have signed a letter to the Senate Committee on Commerce in support of a bill advocating for ticket sale transparency and consumer protections against bots.
Billie Eilish, Dave Matthews, Cyndi Lauper, Lorde, Sia, Train, Fall Out Boy, Green Day, Graham Nash, Becky G, and Chappell Roan are among the prominent signees urging Congress to pass the Fans First Act (S. 3457). The bill, introduced by Senators Cornyn, Klobuchar, Blackburn, Welch, Wicker, and Lujan, and the bipartisan Ticket Act (H.R. 3950), sponsored by Reps. Bilirakis, Schakowsky, and Armstrong, which passed out of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, address the live event ticketing system. The letter claims current practices leave fans and artists alike exposed to the predatory practices of bad actors within the secondary ticketing market.

Other than making records, what do Green Day, the Notorious B.I.G., classic crooners Perry Como and Johnny Mathis, Latin music giant Héctor Lavoe, and the late Bill Withers have in common? Not much, until today: Works by all those musicians, and over a dozen more, were announced as the latest additions to the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry.

Back in 2012, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong famously had a meltdown during the band’s performance at the iHeartRadio Music Festival. The band was in the middle of “Basket Case” when organizers gave them the wrap-it-up sign. “Give me a fucking break. One minute left? You’re gonna give me one fucking minute?” Armstrong responded. “Let me tell you something, I’ve been around since 19-fucking-88. And you’re gonna give me one fucking minute? I’m not Justin Bieber, you motherfuckers!” He then proceeded to smash his guitar and walk off the stage.
Following the performance, Armstrong entered rehab for alcohol and prescription pills. Discussing the incident in a 2020 interview with Rolling Stone, the singer recalled: “The next morning, I woke up. I asked [my wife] Adrienne, “How bad was it?” She said, “It’s bad.” I called my manager. He said, “You’re getting on a plane, going back...

Green Day scrapped the second verse of “Basket Case” and replaced it with a few bars from the original song demo during their recent performance at the iHeartRadio Music Awards. The Landmark Award recipients opened their set with Saviors track “Bobby Sox” before performing the hybrid version of the Dookie classic.

The Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection is Aspyr’s latest attempt at bringing a classic video game experience into the modern age. This time around, the studio is taking us back 20 years, to 2004. It was an era of Christian Bale starving himself for The Machinist, Green Day calling out the American Idiots in charge of running the US, and Pandemic delivering a Star Wars gaming experience that was lightyears ahead of its time. The good old days before the Disney/EA chokehold on all things Star Wars.
How you feel about the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection will likely depend on what you are hoping for from the experience. If you are looking for something that looks like it was released last week that simultaneously manages to capture that sweet noughties nostalgia, then you may be left disappointed. Seconds after Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson entered the holding room where presenters and performers at Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy gala were to take this picture, someone became starstruck — but who that was might surprise you.
“It’s Jelly Roll!” Wilson shouted excitedly as she saw the Grammy-nominated singer-rapper. But the feeling was mutual, as Jelly Roll later murmured, if only to himself, about the surrealness of the moment. He was standing in proximity to Hanks and Wilson as Dionne Warwick sat nearby and members of Green Day were hanging out while everyone waited for one of music’s greatest architects — Davis himself — to arrive.
The interaction was just one of several “pinch-me” moments as the likes of The Isley Brothers, Maluma, Josh Groban, Lainey Wilson and many more came together to take a snapshot with Davis and commemorate the night of amazing music that was to come at the legendary party,...

Green Day’s latest album, Saviors, has arrived, and though you’ll easily find the new tracks on a number of algorithmic playlists, you won’t get any brownie points from the band for getting your music that way. In a new interview, the pop-punk trio shared their opinion: “finding your music via algorithms [is] just lazy.”
The comments come from a new discussion between Green Day and The Sun, in which bassist Mike Dirnt explained that he likes to “organically find” new things. “Social media is great for kids, but if you’re finding your music via algorithms then that’s just lazy,” reads his full quote. “All I can say is just clear your search history to find new [stuff].”
For his part, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong explained that his distaste for algorithms centers on how they can manipulate content. “With all the algorithms that people live on, there’s so much false information,...

Green Day’s new album, Saviors, has arrived.
Their 14th studio album, Saviors, is the first full-length release from Green Day since 2020’s Father of All Motherfuckers, and features more of a political tilt than the band has had in years. The lead single, “The American Dream Is Killing Me,” proves that with its title alone, as well as with lyrics like “Don’t want no huddled masses/ TikTok and taxes/ Under the overpass/ Sleeping in broken glass.”
Speaking about the band’s return to political subject matter, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong explained: “This time, we brought it out, and we felt like it was the perfect time for it… It takes those special, inspired moments to have a moment like ‘The American Dream Is Killing Me.’”
Subsequent singles — “Look Ma, No Brains!” “Dilemma,” and “One Eyed Bastard” — all showed off the record’s beefy, modern rock sound, brought to life by producer Rob Cavallo,...

Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong has shared the story of meeting one of his heroes, Eddie Van Halen, revealing that the guitar legend “started crying” during their backstage encounter.
During an appearance on The Howard Stern Show on Wednesday (January 17th), Stern brought up the fact that the first concert Armstrong attended was a Van Halen show. “When I saw Van Halen in ’84, I was 12, and they were my favorite band, and I cried,” began the Green Day singer-guitarist. “It’s like his guitar playing came from a different place. He reinvented how to play guitar. But they also wrote great songs, that’s the main thing that I took away from Van Halen. The songs were just so fucking great.”
When Stern asked if Armstrong ever got to meet Eddie, the punk frontman shared the story of his one and only meeting with the guitar icon. “I [met him] one time,...

The “best part” of Green Day updating lyrics to its 2004 protest anthem “American Idiot” during the band’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve performance was “that it provoked conversation,” according to bassist Mike Dirnt.
While appearing on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest, the trio performed a collection of their hits past and present, including the title track to their critically acclaimed, chart-topping 2004 album American Idiot. The co-founding member recently spoke to Rolling Stone about the band’s performance of the track — and the backlash it garnered — while discussing the punk rockers’ nearly 40 year career.
Like “Holiday,” the song was among the explicitly political tracks on the band’s self-described punk rock opera concept album, which explored a lower-middle-class antihero known as the “Jesus of Suburbia.” The song addressed the disillusionment of a young generation during the George W. Bush administration following events like 9/11 and the Iraq War,...

“Don’t want no huddled masses/TikTok and taxes,” Billie Joe Armstrong sings on “The American Dream Is Killing Me,” the opening track of Green Day’s Saviors, echoing the first line of the title track from their Bush-era opus American Idiot. References to Covid and youth brain rot aside, the new album’s overly curt evocations of the cultural moment and slightly anarchic political mantras capture the spirit of the teenage angst that defined the ’90s pop-punk movement—though lyrics like “I’m with stupid and I’m all by myself” toe the line between charmingly irreverent and cringe-worthy.
Pulling influences from classic Cali punk, British Invasion pop, and early rock ‘n’ roll, the album’s sound is as melodic as it is gritty. Tracks like “Dilemma” and “Suzie Chapstick” boast bright, Beach Boys-esque guitar tones complemented by bursts of pop-punk energy. Elsewhere, the band flaunts their ability to...

Three decades ago, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong was sarcastically singing “Welcome to Paradise.” Now at age 51, he’s staidly singing “Welcome to my problems” on “Dilemma,” a plaintive, swinging rocker on Green Day’s 14th LP, Saviors, which owes a debt to Fifties rock and the Ramones. “I was sober now I’m drunk again,” he wails in the chorus. “I’m in trouble and in love again/I don’t want to be a dead man walking.” It’s one of the album’s best songs and,...

Whether intentional or not, Green Day’s new single “One Eyed Bastard” sounds an awful lot like P!Nk’s 2008 breakup anthem “So What.”
The opening guitar riff of “One Eyed Bastard” features a similar melody to the synth-driven “na-na-na” intro of “So What.” The riff appears throughout the track, which otherwise features lyrics motivated by revenge: “I’m making an offer that you cannot deny/ You won’t be laughing when I’m making you cry.”
It’s worth noting that “So What” shares similarities of its own with hard rock pioneer Deep Purple’s 1970 song “Black Night.”
To hear Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong tell it, however, his inspiration came from an entirely different source. “‘One Eyed Bastard’ started off as just a riff that I had — a shuffle, almost like a Black Sabbath kind of riff,” he said in a statement. “Lyrically, I was just reflecting on bad times in life.

Fresh off of somehow managing to shock conservatives with their famously anti-Trump, left-of-center political views, Green Day are back with a new song, “One Eyed Bastard.”
The track begins with a classic heavy metal riff before launching into the kind of bruising, big guitar anthems Green Day was delivering on American Idiot (the careening power chords even bear a slight resemblance to “Holiday”). “Vendetta is a friend of mine,” Billie Joe Armstrong bellows on the chorus, “Revenge is sweeter than wine/I never asked to hear your God damn feelings...

Elvis Presley‘s ’68 Comeback Special was a career highlight for Elvis. It was also a career highlight of a girl group star. She revealed what it was like to work with the “Heartbreak Hotel” singer.
Elvis Presley worked with Darlene Love on his ’68 Comeback Special’
During a 2023 interview with The Guardian, singer Darlene Love discussed her relationship with record producer Phil Spector. “I was in [girl group and backing-singer legends] The Blossoms when he hired me to record ‘He’s a Rebel’ [in 1962],” she recalled. “I knew it was for The Crystals but I got paid a bundle of money – $5,000 was a lot then. After I signed with Phil and we did ‘Da Do Ron Ron’ and ‘He’s Sure the Boy I Love’ [also credited to The Crystals], I told him my name should be on, but I hadn’t read the contract.” Love would become most known for singing the seminal Christmas song “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home),” which Spector wrote and co-produced.

Billie Joe Armstrong of the classic rock band Green Day is not one to mince words about President Donald Trump. He wrote a track about Trump even though he thought it was difficult to do so. Armstrong also revealed that the song was inspired by one of the biggest stars of the 1980s.

Green Day songs are some of the most essential classic rock tunes of the 1990s and 2000s. However, the band drew significant influence from The Who, one of the most iconic bands of the 1960s and 1970s. Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong revealed The Who’s “Pinball Wizard” was the inspiration for one of Green Day’s singles. He feels he made some major missteps on that song’s parent album.
How The Who’s ‘Pinball Wizard’ inspired Green Day’s ‘Minority’
During a 2020 interview with Rolling Stone, Armstrong revealed the origin of Green Day’s “Minority.” After ‘Time of Your Life,’ I started getting into playing more acoustic guitar, and I really wanted to have more for [the album] Warning,” he said. “And there was also a lot of kind of bad pop-punk that was starting to happen, and I wanted to go against that genre.

Nothing marks a new year quite like the annual Times Square ball drops. Green Day used their performance on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve on Sunday night to make the ABC special’s audience aware of their political views.
During a performance of the group’s 2004 hit “American Idiot,” initially written during George W. Bush’s presidency about the Iraq war, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong changed the lyrics from, “I’m not part of a redneck agenda” to “I’m not part of the Maga agenda.”
The tweak, which the rockers previously made during a performance of the song during the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, seemed directed at former President Donald Trump and his supporters who have embraced his “Make America Great Again” slogan.
The moment has sparked a backlash from a number of social media users, including Trump supporters. Among those going after the band was Hercules star Kevin Sorbo, who wrote, “Punk rock is pro big government.
