Mumbai, March 9 (Ians) Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana has a penchant at discovering clutter-breaking films and roles. For this, he has to look out for new storytellers.
"I have always looked to collaborate with new storytellers because they are looking to bring a fresh voice and a different vision to our cinema," Ayushmann said.
He added: "YOung, first-time filmmakers are looking to make a mark in the industry and they are always coming up with high-risk content decisions, which appeals to me a lot because I have always gravitated towards being super risky with my film and character choices."
Ayushmann has worked with debutant directors like Sharat Kataria, Hitesh Kewalya, Raaj Shaandilyaa, Rs Prasanna, Akshay Roy, and Vibhu Puri, and also collaborated with young directors like Nupur Asthana, Ashwini Iyer Tiwari, Amit Sharma and Amar Kaushik.

‘Meri Pyaari Bindu’ Review: Akshay Roy’s Romantic Comedy Debut Falls Flat Even With Major Star Power
At one point, late in “Meri Pyaari Bindu,” Ayushmann Khurrana’s character, writer Abhimanyu, admits to Bindu (Parineeti Chopra) that he’s struggling to pen a love story, to which she replies understandingly, “what can now be said about love that’s new?” It’s almost as though director Akshay Roy, knowing that his debut feature wouldn’t satisfactorily answer that question, preempted the audience by asking it first. While “Meri Pyaari Bindu” isn’t entirely clichéd, it also never quite finds its footing in terms of tone, narrative, or chemistry between the lead characters, coming off instead as both confused and confusing about where it’s going or what it’s trying to say.
When we first meet Abhimanyu in Mumbai; the author of sketchy pulp fiction horror novels like “Dracula’s Lover” and “The Witch’s Blouse,” he’s stuck in his third year of writer’s block trying to draft something deeper.

Sometimes a debutant director shows a spark that never quite lights up the screen. God knows, Akshay Roy displays a keen eye for Kolkata’s eccentricities: the trams and the fast-food lanes, the Durga idol silhouetting the hero’s suicide attempt, the loud boisterous parents of the Bengali protagonist Abhi….so called, so that the theme song of his love story could be ‘Abhi na jao chod kar ke dil abhi bhara nahin.’
Abhi….get it?
There is a lot to ‘get’ in Meri Pyari Bindu including its corny cross references to films about unrequited love like Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Nikhil Advani’s Katti Batti. Then there us film’s Padosan-inspired title. The film’s most embarrassing sequence has Abhi’s parents enacting the Kishore Kumar song in a car park.

The retro tinged love story Meri Pyaari Bindu is set to hit cinemas tomorrow. The film follows the characters of writer Abhimanyu played by Ayushmann Khurrana and Bindu the madcap wanna be singer played by Parineeti Chopra. It follows their tale of love through ages 5-to-35 in all its incarnations.
Parineeti Chopra plays a character that is, as she says, very spunky. In fact, Abhi describes her perfectly in the film, ‘How do you contain this unpredictable, crazy, restless, larger than life, live wire in the pages of a book? You know when a song comes on and you just have to dance? Bindu was that song. That silly infectious joyful tune you couldn’t get out of your head… even if you wanted to.’
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the actress was not able to do a phone interview but she was fabulous enough to take the time to answer some questions through email!

Love is intoxicating, heady and ensnaring. ‘Afeemi’, the latest song from Yash Raj Films’ Meri Pyaari Bindu encapsulates this classic, evergreen aspect of falling in love. This is one hangover, that of heady intense love that no one wants to get rid of! Parineeti Chopra as Bindu and Ayushmann Khurrana as Abhimanyu find their romance bloom in the city of Mumbai as this mellifluous number plays out.
Kolkata kids who jived to the carefree Ye Jawaani Teri as college came to a close, the scene now shifts to Mumbai where both Abhimanyu and Bindu are trying to set themselves up professionally. In the backdrop of this busy, bustling city, Bindu focuses on her dream of becoming a singer, and Abhimanyu find the headiness of love in everyday moments. Beyond grandeur and largesse, Afeemi captures that extra special feeling of doing small things together, of sharing little moments everyday which is very easy to relate to.

Parineeti Chopra takes on a new avatar that of a singer with her first song ‘Maana Ke Hum Yaar Nahi’. This single, from the upcoming film Meri Pyaari Bindu gives us taste of Parineeti’s soulful, singing talent. Composed to hummable, poetic lyrics by Kausar Munir, with music by the great Sachin-Jigar, ‘Maana Ke Hum Yaar Nahi’ is full of gorgeous mellifluous notes.

Even as one is still trying to figure out whether this Diwali would witness one of the biggest clashes of the recent times with Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn taking on each other, here is the latest development. Apparently, heavy weights Karan Johar and Ekta Kapoor have finalised the same date for their respective productions, hence leading to whispers within the industry circles if all is indeed well between the duo.
"Their Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Lootera are progressing quite well and both Karan and Ekta are extremely gung-ho about their respective films. However, now they seem to have penciled in the same date for their release. Not just is this unhealthy, it is also very surprising since in real life they are thick friends and would never allow clash of any kind, whether personal or professional", informs a source.

Good friends Karan Johar and Ekta Kapoor are coming together to produce a love story with a twist. The film will be directed by newcomer Akshay Roy. Ekta and Karan have been friends since a very long time and always wanted to produce a film together. It was Ekta who went to Karan with the script. Karan heard just one line of the script and decided to be on board. The film is a modern take on love. It is a love story where the man and woman are taking each other on - in a powerful and sexy manner. There is a very strong man-woman chemistry based on a combination of sexual, social and political dynamics. The cast has not yet been finalised but they are planning to rope in big stars to play the lead.
