"Community" was simply playing the long game with "Six seasons and a movie," after all.
One of the funniest running gags in the entire comedy series -- which started as an incredibly niche underdog with an almost impenetrable sense of humor and consistently low ratings, only later exploding in popularity as the years have gone by -- has finally turned into a self-fulfilling prophecy. Today, after far too many false starts and hints and hopeful speculation, the news has been made official that "Community" will receive its very own feature film spin-off. Teased on social media by members of the cast like Joel McHale and Ken Jeong before the news officially broke, Peacock confirmed the rumors once and for all with the reveal that the long, long, long-awaited "Community" movie will debut exclusively on the streaming service.

A former Dairy Queen manager in Missouri accused of driving a teenage employee to suicide with her bullying now faces additional charges in the boy’s death, People confirms.
Harley Branham, 22, of Fayette, Missouri, was arrested on Jan. 31 after a jury in a coroner’s inquest found her to be “the principal” cause of 17-year-old Kenneth “Kenny” Suttner’s suicide.
The jurors concluded Suttner had faced bullying and harassment both at the Fayette Dairy Queen, while Branham was a manager there, and at his school.

No longer out of reach, Marcel Pagnol’s stunning 3-feature saga of love and honor in a French seaport is one of the great movie experiences — and the most emotional workout this viewer has seen in years. The tradition of greatness in the French sound cinema began with gems like these, starring legendary actors that were sometimes billed only with their last names: Raimu, Charpin. Those two, Pierre Fresnay and Orane Demazis are simply unforgettable — it’s 6.5 hours of dramatic wonderment.

Mid-season Finale Review: ‘Hearts Still Beating’ Promises Excitement In 2017
Whose Episode Is It?
It’s a Ricketeer road trip! Rick’s inner circle (plus Jesus) head from community to community, trying to get everyone on board with their war against the Saviors, with mixed results. The good news is that “Rock In The Road” moves pretty briskly by “Walking Dead” standards (mercifully, the runtime is less than 90 minutes), there’s some fresh zombie action, and no Negan to be found (save for a brief radio message). It’s a welcome respite from the repetitive misery of the first half of the season. Plus, King Ezekiel is back! And the tiger!
Viva La Revolución
We open with Gregory roundly refusing to join Rick’s rebellion, and also refusing to honor the terms of Hilltop’s initial agreement with Alexandria, since Alexandria didn’t manage to wipe out the Saviors as promised.

Editor’s Note: This article is presented in partnership with Seeso, an ad-free streaming service for comedy lovers. Subscriptions are $3.99 per month, with an option for a one-month free trial.
In early August, The New Yorker Magazine’s esteemed television critic, Emily Nussbaum, sent a tiny missive into the Twitterverse: “I just watched this new sitcom & it was good & funny & romantic. Wtf is Seeso??” with a link to “Take My Wife,” a scripted half-hour series by comedy’s favorite married lesbians, Cameron Esposito and Rhea Butcher, and a Seeso Original Series.
So, Ms. Nussbaum, to answer your question, what indeed (expletive redacted) is Seeso? In a growing world of niche streaming platforms, Seeso stands out for its wealth of TV classics (including all 42 seasons of “Saturday Night Live”), stand-up specials from the likes of Janeane Garofalo, Brian Posehn, Joey ‘Coco’ Diaz, Doug Stanhope, and Rory Scovel, and Original Series from...

Wondering how all the DC universe TV spin-offs, crossovers and webseries fit together? We have the answer...
In October 2012, Us network The CW launched the first season of Arrow, after wrapping up no fewer than ten seasons of Superman origin show Smallville a year before. Arrow was a completely new take on the DC Comics character Green Arrow, in a new universe that had nothing to do with Smallville or its version of Oliver Queen/Green Arrow. The series proved quite the hit for The CW, and a second season renewal inevitably followed. In season two, we were introduced to forensic scientist Barry Allen, better known to DC Comics readers as The Flash. Arrow got a third season, The Flash got his own TV show with great success, and the live action shared DC Comics universe on TV was born. And with it the question: how does it all fit together?...

This review contains spoilers.
3.2 Bad White
I’m happy to inform you, my fellow gorehounds, that the second episode of the third season of The Strain is a vast improvement on last week’s instalment. While last week wasn’t terrible by any means, it also didn’t move the story at all and devolved into a bit of a parody of a survival horror saga complete with a third person shooter riff that wasn’t exciting or clever. Hello, 1994 would like its Doom reference back. Anyway, this week refocuses the series as it narrows its focus onto the exploration of a few key cast members rather than present the whole Strain tapestry at once.
First, let’s take a look at poor Ephraim Goodweather. Eph must decide...

Move in the Midst? Oh, why not?!
Let me count the ways, shall I? First, to set the scene.
We’d lived in the same spot for a staggering (for us) 24 years. Time to go, we decided. Late spring, 2015, we put our house on the market for a month—a trial run, so to speak—then took it off again. No takers and, after all, I’d a book to finish.

Film and TV fans have always loved to discuss their favorite movies and shows. However, in recent times, it seems that discussions about the merits of popular media projects are being sidetracked by debates about political correctness. Why are these issues becoming more important than the movies themselves?
It seems like a long time ago now, but I can recall a time when discussions about a film or TV show dealt mostly with the on-screen events depicted in the film or TV show. That’s changed these days. If you go on any movie/TV website, you’ll find that half (or more) of the discussions are bitter arguments about some detail of the movie which is questioned regarding its political correctness.
The upcoming Star Trek Beyond is getting mired down in an argument about Sulu’s sexuality. In the new film, Sulu will be depicted as a gay man.

Bring on Beyoncé and Bruno Mars singing "The Rains of Castamere": This year's run of Game of Thrones is halfway over, and it's time to sit back and take stock of Season Six's stats. As of last night's blistering climax, over a dozen major players have died; some of the biggest bastards in the Seven Kingdoms have seized power; and the White Walkers are advancing ever closer on the Wall and all that lies beyond. But it's not all bad news for the home team: Jon Snow lives, Daenerys Targaryen rides,...

Warning: May contain minor spoilers on class stories and on Shadow of Revan and Fallen Empire stories.
I’ve been playing Swtor for several years now and I’ve always had backstories for my characters in the world of role-play. I’ve never actually sat down to write them down however, so I’m glad to have a good opportunity to do so now.
Rosiet is the first character I ever created. I actually played through all the classes as female characters before creating any male characters, so Alagos and Brenum came later. There was no backstory at first. I was not as much into Rp and don’t often role-play with other players. However, as a writer, and one who enjoys writing fan-fiction, I enjoy creating a story for my characters. So today I shall present you three who form a family and also reveal a bit more behind the creation of these characters.

Tired Moonlight, Dp: Adam GinsbergOne of the few shocks of the otherwise steadfastly low-key Tired Moonlight, a recent inclusion in New York’s New Directors/New Films program, is discovering in the credit roll that Sean Price Williams didn’t shoot it. The film arrives at a point where seemingly every new low-budget indie shot on 16mm and featuring a hitherto unsung directorial newcomer—in this case Montana-born Britni West—is graced by the eye of this particular cinematographer: see The Vanquishing of the Witch Baba Yaga, Kuichisan, Young Bodies Heal Quickly, Christmas, Again, and several others, not to mention all the work in this vein he’s done for Alex Ross Perry. Williams is certainly skilled (it’s hard to find a review of a film boasting his work that doesn’t mention his name—a rare feat for a Dp), but as of now only demonstrably proficient in...

Airs Sundays at 10pm Est on FX
Vaun’s death at the beginning of the season solidified Gus’s determination to serve only himself. However, it seems as if fate says otherwise. When Quinlan tracks him down and gives him an ultimatum, it’s clear that Gus has a special calling; Quinlan’s own protegee, Vaun, had chosen him to be trained to take down The Master. Though as of right now, what makes Gus something of a “chosen one” is unclear, it’s a real kicker that he had finally found some control over his own life, even if the romantic subplot that comes with it feels forced. There is nothing outside of heterosexual attraction and the feeling of impending doom that fosters chemistry between Gus and Aanya. So while it may be...

For the Horde!! Finally, after years and years of waiting and buzz and details, we have an official first look at one of the Orcs from the upcoming Warcraft movie based on the popular video game. Moon/SourceCode director Duncan Jones is directing the Warcraft movie, about the Orcs vs the Humans, following various Orc and Human characters. This time we get to meet Orgrim the Orc, played by actor Robert Kazinsky, who we just saw as Chuck Hansen in Pacific Rim. Over at Wired, where the image is from, they explain: "Orgrim's likeness comes from the masterminds at Industrial Light and Magic, who took concept art from Blizzard Entertainment... and merged it with photographs and scans of Kazinsky to create the orc." Sweet. Here's the first two Warcraft shots, showing Orgrim the Orc as a character and from a scene in the movie: "We’ve gone beyond the point...

Aphex Twin: Syro (Warp)
Though the length of Richard D. James's absence from the electronic scene has been overstated by people who neglect his less famous aliases, it Has been almost a decade since we got new music from him, and yes, the release of Syro is a welcome surprise. It is less abrasive (by my tastes, at least) than the aggressive beats found on his previous Aphex Twin album, Drukqs (I'm thinking of the blast-beat assault of 'drill-n-bass' tracks such as "Omgyiya Switch 7"); like Drukqs, Syro offers a wide variety of styles, but the whiplash factor is absent; there are no juxtapositions of frenetic computerized beats and beatless ambient piano pieces here.
Instead, the album flows. Drukqs was hard to listen to; Syro is downright ingratiating -- funky at times, occasionally even sexy or at least sensual. Even though the fastest track comes right before the closing ambient track,...

The 2nd edition of the Urban Lens film festival will screen over 35 non-fiction films from India, South Africa, Peru, Chile, Colombia and Canada, in an attempt to engage with how the ‘city’ has found a cinematic expression in non-fiction films over a period of time.
The festival will be held from September 26-28, 2014 at the Indian Institute for Human Settlements (Iihs), Bangalore City campus. This year, the festival will also feature specially curated package of films from the Films Division archive, special screenings and a public talk. Entry to all films is free.

Each week HeyUGuys will take a primary focus on the site. This could be a genre of movie, an aspect of the industry, a specific person or part of the movie making process we want to explore further. This week our focus is the divisive issue of film censorship. We began yesterday with a debate of the necessity of the BBFC, and today Beth Webb explains the censorial milestones we have passed. Tomorrow Cai Ross lists the scenes which caused the censors a headache and on Friday we’ll be looking forward to the future of film censorship.
Since 1912 the British Board of Film Censors has been standardising films for its audiences, sifting through the obscene, the violent and the suggestive to ensure that movies receive the classification seen fit. Big Brother returns in six days. And early Thursday, we got our first look at the 16 people who agreed to spend the summer trapped inside an urban treehouse debasing themselves in the hopes of winning half a million dollars. Hopefully without the racism this time! Soon we’ll get to know all about these contestants: Their hopes, their dreams, their thoughts, their schemes. But in the interest of maintaining a shallow, skin-deep perspective on the pantheon-worthy reality show, EW set two Big Brother obsessives to work on snap judging the new cast. Warning: Baseless theories and celebrity siblings ahead!

The 2nd annual Haverhill Experimental Film Festival — which was just held in Haverhill, Massachusetts on May 29-June 1 — has announced their list of 9 award winners. Most impressively for a small festival in just its second year is that each winner, including the Honorable Mentions, was awarded a cash prize.
The big winner of the fest was filmmaker Metrah Pashaee, whose Human Body Battleground Organ Organism took home the First Prize award of $300. The Second Prize winner of $200 was Mike Olenick for his Red Luck. This is the second big award for Red Luck this year, which previously took home the Best Looking Award at the 2014 Chicago Underground Film Festival. The Third Prize winner of $100 was Josh Lewis for his Pillager.
Jurors for this years festival were media remix artists Soda_Jerk and experimental documentarian Robert Todd, both of whom awarded two Honorable Mentions each. One of those winners — appropriately awarded by...

Ready for a bigger and better “Transformers” movie?
Mark Wahlberg thinks so.
Wahlberg, along with actors Jack Reynor and Nicola Peltz, were on stage at the Paramount Pictures’ opening night presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. Latino-Review was in attendance.
“I was lucky for Michael Bay to ask me to be involved with ‘Transformers,’” he remarked to the CinemaCon audience. “In which, I had to jump on the opportunity, because it had to feel like it’s the most iconic franchise in movie history.”
He continued, “Michael promised me that we get to do our own thing and to be very different and a standalone movie. And it’s absolutely is. Not because I’m in it, but it’s bigger and better than the other three—combined. I can promise you that.”
Reynor, Peltz and Walhberg’s ten-year-old daughter Ella Rae Wahlberg, joined him on stage for plenty of extended footages.

Fox's 2015 reboot of "The Fantastic Four" has found its four leads. Per Deadline, none of this is absolutely set in stone, but it's looking likely that: Michael B. Jordan ("Fruitvale Station") is Johnny Storm the Human Torch; Kate Mara ("House of Cards") is Sue Storm the Invisible Woman; Miles Teller ("Whiplash") is Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic; and Jamie Bell ("Snowpiercer") is Ben Grimm the Thing. At the helm is Josh Trank (2012's "Chronicle," which also starred Jordan). The film is eyeing a June 2015 release date. Teller and Jordan currently star together, along with Zach Efron, in "That Awkward Moment." Our Toh! interview with Teller out of Sundance is here.

Ugandan president unsure about signing anti-gay bill, Jane Lynch’s family sing-a-long, Megyn Kelly’s worst Christmas nightmare came true
Maria Maksakova, a prominent mezzo soprano with St. Petersburg’s Mariinsky Theater, who also happens to be a member of the parliament, is seeing some rough side effects from the Russian “gay propaganda law.” She says “We are seeing extremely negative consequences as the result of this law with the growth of hate crimes. Our country has suffered a colossal loss to its image around the world. I am very sad to see that the Olympic Games in Sochi for which we have so long and anxiously prepared will come to pass with less brilliance and passion because of this unfortunate initiative that was so hastily — and I believe without thoughtful discussion – adopted by parliament.” Well, someone is paying attention.
Could The Flash pilot be the most multicultural cast on television?...

Freaks
Written by Tod Robbins
Directed by Tod Browning
USA, 1932
“For the love of beauty is a deep-seated urge which dates back to the beginning of civilization. The revulsion with which we view the abnormal, the malformed, and the mutilated is the result of long conditioning by our forefathers.” – Introduction, Freaks
Tod Browning’s cult film depicting the terrors of sideshow performers, both how they are perceived by the public and the acts of violence they are driven to commit, sets an unusual and intriguing precedent for future horror cinema tropes.
Freaks initially portrays the titular troupe with unique deformities as unsuspecting prey to two of the carnival’s “normal” performers and lovers, Cleopatra the trapeze artist (Olga Baclanova) and Hercules the strong man (Henry Victor). Cleopatra’s plan to marry and murder Hans the dwarf man (Harry Earles) for his large inheritance victimizes the condition of the “freaks,” placing...

I went into Valhalla Knights 3 with no prior exposure to the series, but got a vibe from pre-release trailers and screenshots akin to a fantasy Mmorpg. Unfortunately, that’s not quite what the final product turned out to be. While definitely a fantasy role-playing game, with stats, swords, and sorcery, when it comes to the main component, it’s strictly a single-player affair.
And yet, structurally, it feels like a game that could have taken better advantage of the wide online player base that exists today. While there is a sparse online versus mode available early on, the fact that you guide parties of multiple characters into battle, and can even switch between each fully playable one, each with their own unique items, stats, and abilities, is begging for multiplayer.
Unfortunately, even if you ignore this setback, the actual game is pretty dull, routine, and standard to a fault. Both...

It was a big movie event on May 26, as the much anticipated Liberace biopic finally premiered on HBO. We weren’t the only ones heating up popcorn and taking in the glitz, glamour, and Rob Lowe’s face — tons of celebs took to Twitter to share their reactions too!
Who knew an over-the-top drama about flamboyant entertainer Liberace would drum up such a huge response? The HBO biopic Behind The Candelabra, starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon as lovers, was such a decadent, racy, dramatic affair that even the stars felt compelled to voice their reactions on Twitter.

The annual St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase is a great way to support the many local filmmakers who practice their art in our area. Cinema St. Louis, our city’s non-profit cinema-related event planning group, will present The Whitaker St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase July 8-12. This is the 12th annual presentation, which serves as the area’s primary venue for films made by local artists. The Showcase screens works that were written, directed, edited, or produced by St. Louis natives or films with strong local ties. The 16 film programs that screen at the Tivoli from July 8-12 serve as the Showcase’s centerpiece. The programs range from full-length fiction features and documentaries to multi-film compilations of fiction and documentary shorts. Many programs include post-screening Q&As with filmmaker. It all ends with a closing-Night Awards Party Thursday July 12th sponsored by Stella Artois from 8 p.m. to midnight at Blueberry Hill‘s Duck Room,...

After two weeks of covering the Human Rights Watch Film Festival, I'm glad to move on to a documentary-focused event devoted more to non-fiction storytelling than promotion of causes. This is my first year at Silverdocs (full-name: AFI Discovery Channel Silverdocs), which has annually been a hub for doc enthusiasts in the D.C. area for nearly a decade. And though there is some overlap between fests (including my Hrw faves Restrepo and War Don Don), right from the start Silverdocs has been a very different experience from the Hrw. Here they show everything from the light and unsubstantial (opening night selection Freakonomics) to the deadly serious (HIV/AIDS doc The Other City). And in between there is room for plenty of autobiographic journeys, a rock doc, some histories and stuff that's hard to classify (such as my favorite from Tribeca, Into Eternity).
This being my first fest that's completely interested in documentary,...
