A lot of people are likely to look down on Allegiance before it even starts, and only because The Americans isn’t that old. I have to give them that, if I’m really being honest, but this one is quite a different spin on things, and I’m a lot more intrigued by the possibilities.
In this telling of the Russian agents living as American citizens story, Mark and Katya O’Connor (Scott Cohen and Hope Davis) have a complicated backstory. They fell in love when Katya was still working for the Kgb, and a deal was ultimately made that allowed the couple to marry and live in America, but with a vague understanding that one is never really out of the Kgb… or whatever.

After scoring big in the ratings department, NBC has given "The Mysteries of Laura" a full-season pickup.
"Laura," which stars "Will and Grace" alum Debra Messing as the titular mom and cop, will now run for 22 episodes in its inaugural season. The show has been pulling in an average of 10.6 million viewers per episode, numbers that NBC hopes will continue.
"Debra has effortlessly infused Laura with a relatability that is captivating audiences," NBC president Jennifer Salke said in a press release announcing the news. "We can't wait to see how Laura will continue to evolve throughout the entire season."
"The Mysteries of Laura" co-stars Josh Lucas, Laz Alonso, Janina Gavankar, and Max Jenkins, and is co-executive produced by McG ("Supernatural") and Greg Berlanti ("Arrow," "Dawson's Creek"), among others. It airs on Wednesdays on NBC.

Bill Doss, one of the co-founders of the Elephant 6 Recording Company and a member of Olivia Tremor Control, has died. He was 44. No cause of death has been released. Doss—along with fellow Louisianans and childhood friends Jeff Mangum, Will Hart, and Robert Schneider—created the Elephant 6 brand of rock in Athens, Georgia in the early '90s. Both together and separately, the men crafted psychedelic pop under the guise of a loose collective of bands that included Neutral Milk Hotel, The Apples In Stereo, Of Montreal, Elf Power, and more. Hart and Doss’ band, Olivia Tremor Control ...

This week Elizabeth Mitchell makes a guest appearance on Law & Oder: Svu. And while she has been on that show once before, she is known mostly for playing Juliet Burke on Lost and more recently Erica Evans on V which just ended its second season with no word yet on a third. So for her rabid fan base any chance to see Elizabeth on screen in a good one. In a recent conference call interview we got her thoughts on a range of topics from those very loyal fans to her favorite roles. Here’s what she had to say.
1. On SciFi vs. Realistic Drama
"I find sci-fi to be wonderful because it is fanciful and much easier to not go home with the fact that I had to kill an alien that day. But I find that beautiful words, well-written words, which has been...

Scream 4
Opens: April 15th 2011
Cast: Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Mary McDonnell, Emma Roberts Director: Wes Craven
Summary: Sidney Prescott, now the author of a self-help book, returns home to Woodsboro on the last stop of her book tour. There she reconnects with family and friends, but it also brings about the return of Ghostface which puts the whole town in danger.
Analysis: Back in late 1996 when I first began covering film news, "Scream" was released and became more than just a sleeper hit. After years of genre movies being relegated to direct-to-video status, this comedic slasher spawned the biggest surge in the horror film genre since "Halloween" almost two decades before. Its post-modern stylings and witty self-aware dialogue went on to be a big influence on films and television in general.
Yet the "Scream" series itself never could quite capture that glory again. By the time the...

Tonight Andrew McCarthy will appear on the season finale of USA's White Collar. He will reprise his role of Vincent Adler, the mentor who taught Neil Caffrey (Matt Bomer) everything he knows about the art of the con. In a recent conference call interview, we found out ten things that Andrew McCarthy knows about TV, movies, travel and donuts.
1. On The Current State of Television
"When I started acting, 100 years ago, in the early ‘80s, you only did the television show if your movie career was over. Now I’d say most of the best writing is on television. And movies are a different beast entirely. There’s the big blockbusters and then occasionally, there’s some little interesting movies that come along that somehow get made and 12 people are in them. I think it’s a real golden age for television for sure.

Season 9 of Law & Order: Criminal Intent is coming to a close tonight. It started out on unsure ground with the departure of Vincent D'Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe, and Eric Bogosian. So Saffron Burrows and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio had some big shoes to fill, but they had the support of Jeff Goldblum, who took the lead this season. Add in some guest stars like Lorraine Bracco, F. Murray Abraham, Dan Lauria, Ralph Macchio, and Tracy Pollan, and it made for a pretty solid season. Be sure to catch the finale tonight at 10:00 Pm on USA.
We spoke with Saffron Burrows recently about her first year on the show, working with Jeff Goldblum, and how she spent her first 4th of July as a U.S. Citizen.
Q: What originally made you want to be a part of this show?
Saffron: First of all, Jeff Goldblum...

Chicago – NBC announced their fall schedule and fans of “Heroes,” “Law & Order,” “Trauma,” and “Mercy” will shed a tear while on-the-bubble shows like “Chuck,” “Parenthood,” and “Community” will return with “Parks and Recreation” coming back later in the season. Most notably, the peacock network filled the now-vacant five hours of programming after “The Jay Leno Show” debacle with eight new fall shows and five more scheduled for midseason.
NBC has called in the starpower to help save the sinking network, bringing in new programs by J.J. Abrams, Jerry Bruckheimer, and David E. Kelley with recognizable TV veterans like Blair Underwood, Jimmy Smits, Laura Innes, and more.
The network has scheduled their fall 2010 season with thematic evenings. Mondays and Wednesdays will feature drama, Thursdays will be all comedy, and the rest of the week will include reality leading into similar dramas.

Chicago – As the late, great Sophia Petrillo of “The Golden Girls” might have philosophized, “Picture it: September 13, 1990.” When “Law & Order” premiere, “The Internet” and “Email” were barely words, “mobile phones” looked like portable hair dryers, and Google, Yahoo, and AOL weren’t even gleams in Bill Gates’ eyeglasses — let alone Twitter, MySpace, Facebook, and YouTube. HBO and Showtime had yet to produce A-list hour dramas, and F/X, TNT, AMC, and USA had yet to produce anything more than the occasional TV-movie at all.
Although it enjoyed considerable acclaim, few film or TV critics would have predicted on that Tuesday night that a gritty, dark crime show with no A-list movie or TV names — slotted against the pop-cultural buzz-saw that was “Thirtysomething” — would still be the toast of television almost twenty years later. But “Law & Order” beat the odds to not only survive, but thrive during the past two decades,...

Friday’s more-than-solid premiere of Law & Order tells us one of two things: either creator Dick Wolf is right, and the show has 20 more years of cops and courts left in it, or they’re setting up one hell of a series-ending season. We all know (mainly because Wolf’s been telling anyone who’ll listen for just about forever now) that tying Gunsmoke’s two-decade record was a major goal. With Friday’s premiere he sets about realizing that goal for this 20th season. And after a series of bumpy transitions among the police and prosecutor ranks (I still...

Come on, people, you never leave the perp with Wentworth Miller! That’s Article 96, Section 242, Clause 3 of the Procedural Code! Wait, wait. Before we get too shouty about last night’s Law & Order: Svu, let’s call the meeting to order and go over some Beat Cop business. At our last meeting, commenter Judy Woodruff (let’s just assume that’s an alias, and the PBS anchor is way busy with actual news) asked if we’re going to loop Southland (tonight at 9 on NBC) into our discussions. This brings up an excellent point, Coppers: What counts as a procedural?...

USA Network is finalizing a deal to bring Law & Order: Ci back for a ninth season, but there's a catch. Actually there are a few catches. Here's what I'm hearing... * Julianne Nicholson is out. The actress, who recently gave birth to her second child, has opted not to return. Saffron Burrows (My Own Worst Enemy) has emerged as the frontrunner to replace her. * Burrows would be partnered with Jeff Goldblum, although his deal is also not 100 percent done. * Where does that leave Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe? The Ci vets are in talks to return in some capacity. Any questions? Reaction? Head to the comments. Photo Credit: Goldblum: Will Hart/USA Network; D'Onofrio: Mitchell Haaseth/NBC; Burrows: Albert L.
