Indie favorites Islands have returned with a new song, “(We Like To) Do It With the Lights On,” from their first album in five years, Islomania, set to arrive June 11th on Royal Mountain Records.
“Do It With the Lights On” is a catchy bit of dance-pop led by an irrepressible bass line and a vocal performance from Nick Thorburn that flits between blasé, charming, and exuberant: “Dance to the song, on and on,” he sings, “We do it with the lights on/We like to do it with the...

Ajr take a trippy turn in their new video for “100 Bad Days,” which features their disembodied heads mining positivity despite experiencing many bad circumstances. In the Tim Nackashi-directed and London Alley-produced visual, their individual body parts move independently and surreally melt away and reappear via special effects.
The siblings sing about life’s disappointments – from getting drunk and becoming injured to experiencing heartbreak and performing a show “and no one showed.” However, as the clip displays via the floating segments of their bodies, they seem to conclude that...

It's finally Vma time, guys! Going into the ceremony, held tonight in Los Angeles, Katy Perry led the nominations with 10, though the candy-coated pop tart wouldn't be taking the stage to perform one of her recent 5 #1 hits. There were tributes planned to Amy Winehouse and Britney Spears, while there wouldn't be a host for the third time in the show's history.
With all the theatrical performances, surprise guests, and out there fashion, one question remained: who would take home the gold (err, silver)?
Perry took home 3 of her 10 nominations, including the coveted Video of the Year for "Firework", but it was Adele that led the night with 4 wins. The talented Brit scored big in the professional categories, winning for Direction, Art Direction, Cinematography, and Editing. Lady Gaga was the only other artist to pick up more than one award, collecting two moonmen for her #1 hit "Born This Way". Other winners included Britney Spears,...

Coinciding with the release today of TV on the Radio’s new album, Nine Types of Light, is a near-feature consisting of a video for each song, all sequenced with an eye towards a longer-form narrative. From the band’s site:
Nine Types of Light is as much an album as it is a movie by TV on the Radio.
The movie is meant to be a visual re-imagining of the record, and includes a music video for every song on the album.
The band personally asked their friends and the filmmakers they admired to help direct the music videos.
Tunde Adebimpe, the director for the full Nine Types of Light movie, storybooked the music videos together with interviews from local New Yorkers on various topics, including dreams, love, fame and the future. Tunde also directed the music video for “Forgotten.”
The various directors involved are: Tim Nackashi, Michael Please,...

Death Cab for Cutie's music video for their brand new single "You Are a Tourist" has just made its way out in full. Directed by Tim Nackashi, it becomes the first-ever scripted, single-take music video production to be broadcast live as it is filmed.
Wearing black light-up ensemble, Ben Gibbard and his bandmates are playing in a jam session as some ballet dancers are engaged in a kaleidoscopic sequence. "It's lots and lots of lights, there are a lot of people involved, and there are a lot of cameras. It's sort of like old world Broadway-come-Hollywood magic at the moment," Chris Walla told Billboard.
"You Are a Tourist" is a lead single for Death Cab for Cutie's upcoming seventh studio album "Codes and Keys". The song has been released since last month, but the album will not be made available for purchase in the United States until May...

As you are probably aware by now, on Tuesday night, Death Cab for Cutie managed to pull off their "You Are a Tourist" video — which was shot live, in one continuous take, and broadcast to the entire world via the Internet — without incident.
Although the final product looked effortless, it only came together after a full day of rehearsals in Los Angeles, where Death Cab for Cutie worked (and reworked) the "Tourist" choreography with director Tim Nackashi and a bevy of background dancers. Now that "Tourist" is in the books — and disaster-free — we decided it was time to have Dcfc take us through the process of making the clip, live, without a net.

Well, they pulled it off. One week after announcing plans to shot a live live video for "You Are a Tourist," the first single from their upcoming Codes and Keys album, and after a full day of slightly tense rehearsals, Death Cab for Cutie were finally able to breathe a sigh of relief.
Not only did "Tourist" — which was shot live, with multiple cameras, in one single take and broadcast for the entire world via YouAreATourist.com (and several other sites, including MTV.com) on Tuesday night (April 5) — come off without a hitch, but Death Cab looked like they were having an absolute blast making it.

Craig Wedren, who once fronted Shudder to Think, has become an accomplished composer for TV and film (having scored "School of Rock," "Roger Dodger," and "Wet Hot American Summer"). His latest project is an album and interactive film called "Wand." The first chapter and single, "Are We," is up today in a fully 360° panoramic style you can only watch, or rather explore, on this site.
Wedren's inspiration for "Wand" struck at a flea market deep in Mexico. "A Chilean man was selling this wand-shaker made out of animal bones and shells. It was stunning, magical -- truly a magic wand," Wedren believes. "When I tried to buy it, he asked me where I was from. When I told him 'New York City,' he refused to sell me the wand on the grounds that it was 'too powerful' to risk falling into the hands of George W. Bush, who was still President at the time.
