A Major Game of Thrones Actor is Returning to the Fantasy Genre in This Upcoming Historical Epic
Image
Quick Links Nikolaj Wields Swords And Armies In A New Series From Fantasy To Historical Epic His Character's Historical Motivations Are Much Different From Jaime's

Since he graced the small screen on HBO's epic fantasy series Game Of Thrones, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau has been a hidden gem among this new generation of actors in Hollywood. Audiences loved to hate him and also saw him grow as Jaime Lannister, but his career on the big screen in Hollywood has only manifested smaller roles. Although his next upcoming role is also a television series, it places him front-and-center, as Western medieval history's most well-known figure. From his fame-blasting emergence as a fantasy knight, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau will now play William the Conqueror in the BBC series King and Conqueror.

The intriguing irony of this role and Waldau's casting is largely in its context. The roles of Jaime and William, although heir-apparent nobles at the base,...

HBO Only Allowed James Norton to Join Middle Ages Drama Series ‘King and Conqueror’ on Condition His Character ‘Must Die’
Image
James Norton has revealed he was set on playing William the Conqueror in upcoming Middle Ages drama series “King and Conqueror” but was thwarted by HBO, who had an option on the actor for another series.

Norton, who is also an executive producer on the upcoming BBC/CBS show about the iconic Battle of Hastings, was already starring in Joss Whedon’s HBO sci-fi series “The Nevers” when he began developing “King and Conqueror.” Under the terms of his HBO contract, he was not allowed to appear in another returning series, meaning his only option was to play Anglo-Saxon king Harold, who famously died on the battlefield in 1066 after being shot in the eye with an arrow.

“HBO said very clearly, ‘You can go and shoot “King and Conquer,” especially considering you’re an EP and you’re developing it, but you must die,” Norton revealed during a panel about “King and Conqueror” at U.

James Norton Reveals The Real Reason Why He Is Playing Harold Of Wessex & Not William In 1066 Drama ‘King And Conqueror’
Image
Sometimes casting can be a completely creative process and sometimes contracts can get in the way.

With CBS Studios’ upcoming King and Conqueror about Harold of Wessex and William the Conqueror, it was a fair bit of the latter.

Star James Norton revealed at Content London this morning that he initially wanted to play William who (spoiler alert) slays Harold at the great Battle of Hastings, but HBO had other ideas. At the time production was ramping up, Norton was starring in HBO series The Nevers, and HBO didn’t want him to commit too strongly to King and Conqueror. The get-out was obvious.

“[HBO] said you can go and do King and Conqueror but you must die because we can’t afford you to go for too long,” said Norton. “If it’s a hit they were worried there would be a conflict. That’s what often happens with actors’ contracts,...

Toronto Raptors guard Rj Barrett starstruck after spotting Game of Thrones actor in the stands
Image
This past Sunday, the Toronto Raptors faced off against the Los Angeles Lakers at the Crypto.com Arena in L.A. It makes sense that stars and celebrities from nearby Hollywood occasionally show up to take in a basketball game, and maybe the Lakers are used to that kind of thing. But coming as he does from Canada, the North in real life, Raptors guard Rj Barrett was caught by surprise when he saw none other than Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) in the stands.

The moment is captured on film. Barrett makes a tricky shot, turns to the audience, spots Coster-Waldau sitting courtside, pauses, points, says "Game of Thrones?" and then gets back to business:

Is The Last Kingdom Connected To Vikings? When The Two Shows Take Place
Image
Given that the two historical TV shows explore similar themes of religion, identity, and nationality, some people have been wondering if The Last Kingdom and Vikings are connected. Although it has been around for some time, the 2010s saw an increasing interest in the historical fiction genre. Vikings was one of the shows at the heart of this trend as many people were intrigued by the lore and characters (especially Ragnar and Lagertha). They also couldn't get enough of the engaging blood-filled battle sequences and engaging storylines.

With the series proving to be a huge success, it wasn't all that surprising then when many streaming platforms and channels began creating shows that were quite similar to Vikings. While many of these shows were fantastic, The Last Kingdom was one that particularly drew the attention of Vikings' fans as it seemed to follow a similar structure, contain real-life historical figures, and...

I Can't Believe Vikings: Valhalla Ended After Setting Up A Huge Story That Would've Realized Godwin's Dream
Image
When Netflix's hugely popular Vikings: Valhalla ended, it left me dissatisfied by some of its loose ends. The Vikings spinoff based its main characters on real figures from 11th-century Europe, such as the famed Viking explorer, Leif Erikson, and Canute, the Viking king of England. While Valhalla repeated Vikings lack of historical accuracy, it contained many subtle nods that only history buffs would pick up on. One of these centered around Earl Godwin, Canute's scheming advisor. Along with his heirs, Godwin had a major role to play in an important period of English history.

I became fascinated by this character ever since the shocking scene where Godwin killed King Edmund. Unlike Valhalla's more brutal warlord antagonists, Godwin relied on cunning, surreptitiously pulling strings to bring about his ultimate dream: to see his son become the king of England. Netflix's disappointing decision to end Vikings: Valhalla after season 3 meant...

Prince William Royal Enforcer, Kicking Prince Harry & Meghan To the Curb
Image
British royal family news reveals that Prince William is throwing down the gauntlet just as Harry and Meghan ramp up their vindictiveness toward the monarchy. Should the Douche and Douchess of Sussex be afraid of the big bad wolf? Definitely maybe.

This summer he fired Queen Camilla’s sister, Annabel Elliot, from the royal payroll following two decades of dedicated toil. If the queen’s own kin isn’t safe from William’s wrath, how safe are the couple who are taking their chances in Colombia this week?

Harry And Meghan Put On Notice?

According to RadarOnline.com “Make no mistake, William has become the royals’ enforcer.”

A source told the outlet that William is through “taking nonsense from rogue relatives and is making it clear no one is safe from the axe. He has a stronger backbone than his father, King Charles, ever had.”

“I think they would be bedded before they finish the sentence”: Jon Snow Might Have Bent the Knee but Emilia Clarke Confessed 1 Game of Thrones Star Made Her Weak in the Knees

The Game of Thrones verse follows the ritual of ‘Wed, bed, behead’ instead of the popular game ‘Kiss, marry, kill’. Emilia Clarke, who portrayed the role of Daenerys Targaryen, seems to be hinting at some bedding activities between certain characters!

Every Vikings Valhalla Character Who Became King Of England After King Canute
Image
Vikings: Valhalla season 3 saw characters aiming for the throne of England, including Emma's sons with Aethelred and Canute's sons with Aelfgifu. Harthacnut was chosen as King, but Harefoot had to act as regent. William the Conqueror took the throne after defeating Harold Godwinson.

Vikings: Valhalla ended with its third season, but the stories of its characters dont end there, as some of them went on to become kings of England after King Canutes (Bradley Freegard) death. Vikings: Valhalla season 3 caught up with its main characters seven years after the events of season 2, in which Leif (Sam Corlett) and Harald (Leo Suter) arrived in Constantinople, Freydis (Frida Gustavsson) became the new leader of Jomsborg and the Jomsvikings, Queen Emma of Normandy (Laura Berlin) discovered Godwin (David Oakes) was behind her assassination attempt, and King Canute returned to England.

The Future Of Vikings Valhalla's William, Duke of Normandy, Is Bigger Than You Realize
Image
William became Duke of Normandy at a very young age, causing conflict and struggles for power. William fought for the throne of England against Harold and became the first Norman King of England. William faced various rebellions during his reign, including revolts by earls, Danish raids, and challenges from his own son.

Despite being the shows final season, Vikings: Valhalla season 3 introduced new characters, one of them Duke William of Normandy (Ely Solan), but hes a much bigger character than the show makes him seem. Vikings: Valhalla continued the stories of its main characters, to which it added new characters, despite not having enough time to develop their stories. Such was the case of William of Normandy, who appeared briefly when Queen Emma (Laura Berlin) and King Canute (Bradley Freegard) arrived in Normandy to visit Emmas sons, Edward and Alfred.

Emma mentioned being related to William, who was, at that moment,...

‘Dark’ Star Oliver Masucci Takes on Real-Life ‘Visionary’ in ‘Herrhausen – The Banker and the Bomb’: ’What We Were Told About His Death Can’t Be Right’ (Exclusive)
Image
Alfred Herrhausen, born in 1930, was the chairman of Deutsche Bank. But to the team behind German series “Herrhausen – The Banker and the Bomb,” premiering at Series Mania, he was a “visionary.”

“He was a humane banker, always looking into the future. What you see in this show is a person who tries to do something new and others prevent him from doing it. They say: ‘We have never done it before.’ He says: ‘Well, that’s the definition of the word ‘new,’” says actor Oliver Masucci.

The show, written by Thomas Wendrich, premieres the trailer in exclusivity with Variety.

Before taking on Herrhausen, Masucci gained prominence thanks to Netflix’s “Dark.” Next, he will be seen in the BBC and CBS Studios show “King and Conqueror” alongside Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as William the Conqueror.

“When we think of bankers now, we think of absolute capitalists. But he kept saying we needed to shift our perspective.
