All We Know About David Fincher’s ‘Squid Game’ Spin-Off So Far
Image
David Fincher doesn’t just direct—he dissects. Whether he’s jumping deep into the twisted world of serial killers or getting into the minds of social media moguls, his work always feels precise. You will find his works are chilly, and somehow very hypnotic. So when rumors started swirling that the genius behind movies like Se7en and Fight Club might be working on a Squid Game spin-off, fans couldn’t help but lose their minds with excitement.

Squid Game, the South Korean juggernaut of a show, took the streaming world by storm back in 2021. Between its green or pink tracksuits, unnerving masked guards, and twisted takes on childhood games, it became a cultural obsession overnight. The show didn’t just climb the Netflix charts—it devoured them. With its haunting take on capitalism, desperation, and the raw will to survive, it touched a global nerve. And now that...

How To Watch The Best K-Dramas For Free
Image
After the enormous success of shows like "Squid Game" with international audiences, streaming services have steadily been building up their libraries of K-dramas. The common term for scripted television produced in South Korea, no matter the genre, K-dramas continue to win over viewers worldwide. And while platforms like Apple TV+ and Netflix certainly have a great selection of K-dramas to watch, there is a service where fans can legally stream Korean shows for free. In fact, the American streaming platform Rakuten Viki has consistently offered great foreign programming in its library, including an impressive array of K-dramas to check out.

To be clear, Rakuten Viki does feature a paid subscription option for those interested in an ad-free viewing experience, with a wider library and higher video quality for select programming. But the free user model offers an impressive library of K-dramas to choose from, for those looking to watch Korean...

‘Squid Game’ Final Season Trailer Restarts the Games After Failed Rebellion
Image
Squid Game is back online.

Following the devastating events of season two, the third and final season of Netflix’s global sensation created by Hwang Dong-hyuk returns viewers to the games on June 27, dropping all episodes on Netflix. An episode count has not yet been announced, though six has been reported.

The final season teaser trailer (below) for the Korean drama shows protagonist Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), aka Player 456, being returned to the players’ quarters in the recognizable Squid Game coffin. Fortunately, he’s alive when his friends open the coffin. Unfortunately, their rebellion has failed and the games are back on for the final episodes of the series.

Season two ended on the major cliffhanger of the games being incomplete after a failed rebellion and Gi-hun and his subordinates once again being held captive to the rules of the game. The new footage, however, shows that the outside mission to infiltrate the headquarters continues.

‘Squid Game 3’ Teaser: The Only Way Out Is Through
Image
It’s time for one last game. Ahead of the third and final season of “Squid Game,” Netflix has released a teaser with little revealed, but much to discuss.

“Squid Game 2” premiered in December, closing out Netflix’s 2024 and holiday programming with a bang. The highly-anticipated seven episodes debuted to 68 million views in their first week, ending with a mighty cliffhanger that makes Season 3 feel more like Season 2, Part 2.

Three years after the events of “Squid Game” Season 1, Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) is hell-bent on finding the island and dismantling the games, using his prize money only in service of this quest. When members of his search team found the elusive Recruiter (Gong Yoo), Gi-hun ended up face-to-disembodied-voice with the Front Man and demands to go back into the game.

By Season 2, Episode 3, he was back in his signature green-and-white tracksuit with the number 456 emblazoned across the chest — and 455 brand-new players...

15 Best K-Dramas Starring Real-Life K-Pop Idols
Image
Just like most global entertainment industries, South Korean shows and movies take advantage of built-in fan bases surrounding popular musical artists. K-pop stars have branched into acting through K-dramas (South Korean television programming of any genre) for years to varying levels of success. There are plenty of shows elevated by the presence of K-pop idols transitioning into acting, with some of greatest K-dramas of all time prominently featuring these fan-favorite personalities. Whether it's memorable supporting roles or jumping center stage as a series lead, these musicians-turned-actors quickly proved themselves as cross-industry talent.

To be clear, the shows included on this list are K-dramas only, even as K-pop idols begin appearing in Hollywood production in increasing numbers. Image
What Are Netizens Saying About Lee Jung-Jae’s Mean Love? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Over the years, many K-dramas have featured male and female leads with huge age gaps. This is nothing new in the industry, as there have been some massive, shocking age differences among the leads in popular shows like Goblin, where Gong Yoo and Kim Go-Eun had a 12-year age gap. However, given the current scenario with Kim Soo-Hyun and the late Kim Sae-Ron’s personal lives, Lee Jung-Jae’s upcoming K-drama, Mean Love, received ‘mean’ comments from netizens over its recent cast announcement.

For the unversed, the scandal surrounding Kim Soo-Hyun and Kim Sae-Ron is that the actor started dating the late actress in 2015 when she was 15 years old while he was 27. Their relationship allegedly lasted until 2021, sparking controversy because of their significant age gap. This is why Jung-Jae’s upcoming series is also facing the heat...

Korea is becoming the true star of Netflix (and yes it is worth it)
Image
Whatever is going on in South Korea needs to continue. The United States has Hollywood, and India has Bollywood, but no nation is churning out as much excellent original programming as Korea. Netflix viewers should agree with that.

Squid Game might have turned into a surprise hit, at least as far as the number of viewers who tune in, but there is no doubt as to the elite creative talent of its creators. Is there lots of violence? Absolutely. Are there some plot holes in season 2? Sure. But is it non-stop entertainment? Definitely.

But Squid Game is not the only successful and highly original program to come out of Korea. Light Shop is also excellent. Maybe Netflix subscribers cannot tune into that yet, but it will be worth the wait if it does end up on Netflix. One of the great parts is that soon Netflix viewers will be able...

Song, fresh off her turn in Lunar New Year release “Dark Nuns,” leads the ensemble cast alongside “Squid Game” star Gong Yoo, who portrays her childhood friend Dong-gu. Their characters’ deep-rooted bond is tested as they navigate the cutthroat entertainment world together, with Gong’s character described as unpredictable yet uniquely responsive to Min-ja’s influence.

“Light Shop” star Kim Seol-hyun joins the cast as Min-hui, whose complex relationship with Min-ja evolves from childhood devotion to a nuanced rivalry. Cha Seung-won (“Uprising...

Did Thanos Die in Squid Game?
Image
In many ways, Hwang Dong-hyuk's Squid Game managed to top itself with its much anticipated second season. As great as the mega-hit first season was, there was a lot of concern about whether the show could build upon the stakes that were set up at the end of the season. The series more than capitalized on what it established and continued to embody the same stylistic energy of its initial run. Furthermore, the series left fans on an even larger cliffhanger than the first season. There was a great build-up to a choice by protagonist Seong and then a constant twist in each episode that effectively built tension toward a great ending.

The season's greatest strength was its inclusion of new characters. The series really heightened the themes it presented in the season before, which questioned what people might do for a chance to win life-changing money. The second...

Lee Joo-Sil Dies: ‘Squid Game’ Actress Was 81
Image
Lee Joo-Sil, a veteran actress known for her role in Netflix’s hit Squid Game and who appeared in such films like Train to Busan over the course of her six decade career, has died at her family home in Uijeongbu at the age of 81, Korean legacy paper The Chosun Ilbo reported.

The cause of death was stomach cancer, which Lee received a diagnosis for in November.

Lee previously revealed that she had been diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer approximately 30 years ago and was given a one-year prognosis, but eventually fought the disease for 13 years and overcame it.

Born March 8, 1944 in South Korea, Lee embarked on her career in 1964, rising to prominence in her home country for voice acting and on-stage performing. She has appeared in stage productions of Death of a Salesman and Macbeth, as well as K-dramas like The Uncanny Counter and action film Commitment. In 2016, she was in Train to Busan,...

Drama Analysis: Squid Game Season 2 (2024) by Hwang Dong-hyuk
Image
Almost as soon as it was released in 2021, “Squid Game” turned into Netflix’s biggest hit and a cultural phenomenon worldwide, becoming a symbol of the triumphant Korean Wave washing over the globe along with such ultra popular cultural exports as BTS or Bong Joon-ho‘s “Parasite” (with which it shares many thematic similarities). Could season 2 ever meet audiences’ sky-high expectations, offer yet another wild ride through the deadly games and a renewed social critique of the excesses of late capitalism?

Click on the image below to follow our Tribute to Netflix

The short answer is, no. Yet, even when taking into account such unrealistic and unfair expectations, the second season of “Squid Game” is still a disappointment. Instead of taking the show in a new direction and trying to offer something fresh, creator and showrunner Hwang Dong-hyuk, who also writes and directs every episode, just gives us more of the same.

Film Review: Wonderland (2024) by Kim Tae-yong and Sharon S. Park
Image
In the undefined near future, the dead can be brought back thanks to software that can be purchased in advance by families to keep their beloved ones “alive.” Those who are about to die need to agree with the project ironically called Wonderland, and barely anyone says no to it. Who wants to be dead for real? The trick with life after death is that the candidates have to stay in one restricted space of their choice, in a parallel universe designed specifically for them. But also, if a family member who made the arrangements with the company passes, the second life gets deactivated and stored until someone else requests that the same person continues ‘living’ in Wonderland. This, of course, comes with a certain price, and since most of the dead have no idea that they are physically no more, they have their own special needs and wishes. The...

Squid Game Season 2's Six-Legged Race Caused One Actor To Apologize To His Co-Star After Filming
Image
Squid Game actor Park Sung-hoon explains why he apologized to a co-star during the filming of the six-legged race. Park plays Squid Game's Cho Hyun-ju, a new character in season 2 who is competing in the games to earn enough money to complete her gender-affirming care and to begin a new life in Thailand. During the six-legged race competition, the players are required to compete in teams of five, with Hyun-ju competing on the same team as Seon-nyeo (Chae Kook-hee), who claims to be a shaman. When Seon-nyeo is overwhelmed by her panic, Hyun-ju slaps her.

In a Netflix behind-the-scenes video, Park reveals that he actually slapped Chae multiple times during the filming of the six-legged race. Park did not think he was going to be required to actually hit her, until the director told him that he would have to do so. He hit her once, and then had to do it again,...

A Squid Game Actor Starred In One Of The Best Zombie Movies Ever
Image
South Korean films and television shows have delivered some no-holds-barred spectacles, with lacerating violence and soul-rattling twists. "Squid Game," which recently premiered its second season is no exception, and one of the show's key actors, Gong Yoo, previously starred in another South Korean genre gem.

In "Squid Game," Gong plays the Recruiter, the enigmatic and well-dressed agent who lures in potential players by challenging them to a game of ddakji. The Recruiter's handsome face and friendly demeanor make it easy for his character to convince unsuspecting debtors to try their luck -- both at ddakji, and then at the mysterious higher-stakes game.

In "Train to Busan," that same magnetism draws you in and makes you root for Seok Woo, a divorced workaholic who tries to escape a zombie outbreak with his young daughter, Su-an. By now, zombie flicks are a tried and true genre; we've seen every sort of take on zombies,...

When Steven Spielberg Praised Squid Game For Destroying The Myth Of Star-Driven Success
Image
What Did Steven Spielberg Say About Squid Game? ( Photo Credit – Wikimedia )

Steven Spielberg’s comments at the Producers Guild Awards sparked quite a debate about the changing landscape of Hollywood and television. The legendary director praised Squid Game for challenging long-held notions about star power, saying the global smash series had “changed the math entirely” when it comes to what makes a hit. “A long time ago it was domestic stars that brought the audience into movies,” Spielberg said, as quoted by Deadline.

But Squid Game, with its largely unknown cast of South Korean actors, proved that great scripts and compelling stories can drive success, no matter who’s leading the charge. “Today, it’s interesting, unknown people can star in entire miniseries, can be in movies,” he added, calling out the power of content over celebrity. Spielberg’s praise for the streaming giant also gave a nod to Netflix’s CEO,...

10 Squid Game Behind-The-Scenes Details That Will Change How You See Season 2
Image
Warning: Spoilers ahead for Squid Game season 2!Squid Game season 2 continues the Netflix show's story three years after its inaugural run, and a peek behind the curtain makes the complex process of making the TV show even more interesting. Although Squid Game season 2 introduced many new players, the format of the show was pretty similar. However, there are also notable differences. For example, Squid Game season 2's ending is much more of a cliffhanger than last time, but there's a very good reason for that. In short, Squid Game season 3's story will conclude the saga and has been set up by season 2's finale.

First airing in 2021, Squid Game is the brainchild of the show's writer/director/showrunner, Hwang Dong-hyuk. The show quickly became an overnight sensation with audiences in its native South Korea and other countries around the world. It has become known for its high-stakes, bloody storytelling,...

The Recruiter From Squid Game 2 Is Still Alive- As if the Cameraman Blunder Wasn’t Enough Eagle Eyed Fan Exposes Another Mistake of Netflix
Image
When we pressed play on Squid Game season 2, we did not expect to be hit with one good-looking dude after the other. Whether it was the handsome policeman Hwang Jun-ho or Player 333, the second season had more than just deadly games to offer. However, none of them hold a candle to the one, the only, the Recruiter. Played by Gong Yoo, the recruiter is the villain who has everyone questioning their morality. Needless to say, his death was a big fat bummer!

A still from Squid Game season 2 episode 1 | Credits: Netflix

After Seong Gi-hun brings the Recruiter to his end in the first episode of season 2, fans noticed an anomaly in one of the scenes. As he lay dead in the background of the shot, some eagle-eyed fans noticed how the Recruiter’s eyes opened. This, combined with a cameraman caught in one of the shots, really doesn’t make the editors look good.

‘Squid Game’s Lee Jung-jae & Hwang Dong-hyuk Tease “More Twists & Turns” For Season 3: “It’s Going To Be Chaotic”
Image
Squid Game star Lee Jung-jae and creator Hwang Dong-hyuk are teasing the third and final season of the Netflix series.

Jung-Jae and Dong-hyuk talked to Deadline on the Golden Globes red carpet and teased what viewers can expect for Season 3.

“In Season 3, slightly different than Season 1 and 2, there’s going to be more twists and turns and more conflict between the characters — something a little bit different, more complex,” the show’s star said. “It’s going to be chaotic and you are not going to know where we’re taking you.”

Dong-hyuk said, “It’s the craziest one. It’s a crazy, crazy, crazy season. It’s the best season finale,” adding that they are working on post-production of the series and are “almost done.”

The series’ second season was released on December 26 and raked in 68M in its first three days on the streamer, according to Netflix. Squid Game was also No.

‘Squid Game’ Creator Open to Continuing Hit Netflix Franchise Via Spinoffs
Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Squid Game Season 2.] Hwang Dong-hyuk intends for his TV show Squid Game to end after three seasons, but the TV creator might give the “green light” to spinoffs of the Netflix hit. “When we were doing season one, I was saying there was never going to be another season,” Hwang, pictured below, told The Hollywood Reporter recently. “And so if the time comes, and it just so happens that I’m able to come up with a character or a different story, then maybe there might be a comeback. But I’m thinking more along the lines of a spinoff.” Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty Images Some of Hwang’s ideas include backstories for the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) — the masked game organizer who poses as an ally to Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) in Season 2 — or the Recuiter (Gong Yoo) — the Squid Game “salesman” who meets a bloody fate in that second season.

The Best Part of 'Squid Game' Season 2 Was Basically Ignored During Season 1
Image
After spending most of Squid Game Season 1 literally behind the scenes, Hwang In-ho/Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) unmasks himself and steps into the games for Season 2. Although it’s the same twist as Season 1’s with Player 001 being an insider for the company, this time, fans are aware of this deception from the very beginning. Watching the Front Man get close to Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) after their heated exchanges early on in the season makes for an interesting experience. The Front Man can now personally toy with Gi-hun and break him away from his crusade to stop the games. As In-ho and The Salesman (Gong Yoo) tell Gi-hun on different occasions, the players have a choice to participate in these games. People would rather vote yes to risking their lives for these deadly challenges in the hopes of a better life filled with great fortune. In-ho has a front-row...

‘Squid Game’ Spinoffs? Creator of Netflix Hit Has Multiple Ideas
Image
[This story contains major spoilers from the Squid Game season two finale.]

Hwang Dong-hyuk has crafted Squid Game as a three-season story. But the creator of Netflix’s global smash-hit series has ideas to continue on by turning it into a franchise.

“When we were doing season one, I was saying there was never going to be another season,” Hwang told The Hollywood Reporter when launching season two. “And so if the time comes, and it just so happens that I’m able to come up with a character or a different story, then maybe there might be a comeback. But I’m thinking more along the lines of a spinoff.”

Among the multiple ideas he shared for a spinoff series emerges a theme: filling in the gaps. Hwang suggests telling the backstories of other characters, or even exploring the lost time between seasons one and two for returning characters Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) and/or Recruiter...

Image
Mild spoilers ahead for “Squid Game” Season 2.

How much is 45.6 billion won in Usd?

‘Squid Game’ Season 2’s Biggest Change Stressed Me Out
Image
Creator-writer-director Hwang Dong-hyuk continues to highlight the dystopian nature of humanity in Squid Game Season 2 by adding a twist that rings true to life in the real world. The first season is highly regarded for showing just how far greed will lead people to do heinous acts, and how the rich and powerful are more than happy to take advantage of that for their entertainment. As shown by Oh Il-nam (O Yeong-su), the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), and the Salesman (Gong Yoo), they find pleasure in watching the less fortunate suffer in their pursuit of a better life. As they all note throughout Seasons 1 and 2, no one is forced to engage in their games. The choice is left entirely up to the players to continue, yet these people are so down on their luck that they feel like the only option is to compete in these games. It's a chilling...
