Avatar: The Last Airbender has arguably gone to great lengths to balance its magic system, making sure that each classical element had some edge over the other so that fight scenes between multiple elements could be more dynamic. However, one scene that has been making the rounds on Reddit, has gotten fans thinking about whether firebending might have an edge over metalbending after all.
Toph Beifong as the Blind Bandit | Nickelodeon Avatar: The Last Airbender
Metalbending was discovered about halfway through the story of Avatar: The Last Airbender by Toph, which means that there might not have been many opportunities for the bending art to face a more established element in the world of Avatar like Fire. However, one scene in the show might have cued some fans in about how the element would fare against it, after all.

Toph is one of the legendary characters of Avatar: The Last Airbender. No, seriously, name another character who is as unapologetic, sassy, and powerful as her. She invented a new type of bending while imprisoned in a metal cell. If that’s not greatness, you need to get your eyes checked.
If anyone knows Toph inside out, then it’s Jessie Flower, the voice actor for Toph in the Avatar animation. In an interview with her, Flower revealed her observations of the character and how easy it is to mess it up.

Avatar: The Last Airbender animation was a groundbreaking series that has stayed relevant for almost two decades. Netflix’s Avatar live-action series attempts to revamp the animation with cast members who portray the characters in every respect possible.
In fact, the series also contains several original scenes, created to bridge the gaps in the animation. One such scene between the Aang and Avatar Roku has drawn attention due to its grave sense of foreboding.

Anthony Wood, founder, chairman and CEO of Roku, had a pay package worth just over $20.2 million in 2023, while Roku’s media boss, Charlie Collier, received $6.8 million in salary.
Wood’s compensation last year included salary of $1.2 million, stock awards worth $7.57 million and stock option awards valued at $11.43 million, according to Roku’s proxy statement filing Friday with the SEC. It was 3.7% below his overall $21 million package in 2022.
Collier’s 2023 compensation included salary of $6.825 million and $18,825 worth of medical and life insurance premiums paid by the company. Collier opted to forego $1 million of his salary 2023 in exchange for monthly grants of vested stock options at an intended valuation of that amount.
For 2022, Collier’s pay package was worth $53.3 million — most of it in stock equity awards and stock options that vest over a period of four years, subject to the exec remaining employed with Roku. In 2022, Collier left his post as...

One of the strongest characters to come out of Avatar: The Last Airbender was the General of the Fire Nation and former heir to the throne, Iroh. Serving as a kindhearted, funny, and wise mentor figure to Zuko, the Prince of the Fire Nation and his nephew, the character soon endeared himself to all the viewers.
Uncle Iroh and Zuko
There is no doubt that Iroh is one of the strongest characters in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender, but the show has alluded to his power multiple times, even when he is not fighting in a combat situation. The character is very spiritually attuned, something that usually indicates how powerful a character is in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Hackers stole credentials for hundreds of thousands of Roku accounts, the company affirmed. (Computer-generate image by The Desk)
Streaming TV company Roku says it is notifying more than a half-million customers about a data breach that may have affected their accounts.
In a notice published on Friday, a spokesperson for the company said the data breach involving 576,000 customer accounts is part of the same incident it warned about in March. Then, Roku said the damage involved around 15,000 user accounts.
Roku says it was not the source of the data breach, but realized something was amiss when internal systems “detected an increase in unusual account activity.” An investigation determined someone had access thousands of user accounts via credentials that were stolen from a third party.

Created by Michael Dante Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko, Avatar: The Last Airbender‘s mythos is as complex as it can get, thanks to its fantasy theme. The world of the animated television series involves four nations, each with their own unique bending abilities: the Fire Nation, Water Tribe, Earth Kingdom, and Air Nomads.
Avatar: The Last Airbender
Based on Aang, the last surviving Avatar capable of saving the Avatar world with his powers of bending all four elements, the story also focuses on Zuko. The exiled prince of the Fire Nation, Zuko shares a great bond with Aang. But surprisingly, as the mythos goes, the two characters are not just friends but actually great-grandfather and great-grandson.
Avatar Aang Might Be Zuko’s Great-Grandfather Zuko and Aang in Avatar: The Last Airbender
Set in an Asiatic setting involving several fictional elements, Avatar: The Last Airbender also involves elements like spirits and forms of spiritual magic.

The Legend of Korra Sequel Series Confirmed: Theory Reveals How the Next Earth Avatar Will Look Like
Avatar: The Last Airbender has a great number of projects outside of the original animated series that fans either find themselves loving or utterly despising, including The Legend of Korra. Among these also include the two live-action adaptations.
While Korra’s story was one that the audiences approached with great caution, it was understandable considering how it is regarded as a project with lost potential.
Avatar: The Legends of Korra
So far, beginning from Aang’s story, Avatars have been coming and going accordingly. From fire to air and then water. So to see that the next Avatar would be an earthbender is not an aspect of surprise. The next project for the franchise would follow a similar route in bringing about an earthbender.

Avatar Kyoshi is widely regarded as one of the strongest incarnations of the Avatar. She was decisive in her role as the peacekeeper between the spirits and the four nations. As the Earth Bending Avatar, she was the predecessor to Avatar Roku, the founder of the Dai Li and the Kyoshi Warriors, and lived up to the age of 230 years.
Kyoshi in the Avatar: The Last Airbender saga
At 230, Kyoshi was the most long-lived human that we have seen in the show. While earthbenders tend to have an unusually long lifespan in Avatar: The Last Airbender (such as Bumi still being one of the strongest Earthbenders at 112 years old), the novels might have revealed how Kyoshi might have unlocked the power to live for as long as she did.

The Avatar Cycle is something that has always fascinated fans. Legend of Korra was able to give us the origin of the cycle, showing the viewers how it was a human and a spirit allying together that created the Avatar, who would bring harmony and balance to the four nations and the human/spirit world.

Since the Avatar is the only physical being capable of bending the four elements, it is expected of them to become proficient in the four bending arts and use their powers to maintain harmony and balance among the world’s four nations.

Official Netflix statistics show that from February 19 to February 25, the streamer’s live-action version of the well-liked cartoon series received 21.2 million views and more than 153 million hours of viewing.
Gordon Cormier as Aang in Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender
Taking all of this into account, it reflects well for fans looking for a second season of this live-action adaptation of The Last Airbender. The anime follows the exploits of Aang, played by Gordon Cormier, a monk-like youngster who can manipulate the four elements: water, earth, fire, and air.
While the series was a success in a major way, there was one scene of Aang from Avatar: The Last Airbender that was so emotional that it made fans cry. Fans took to X to express their emotions...

This article contains spoilers for Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender.
With all the changes that were necessary to translate the original animated Avatar: The Last Airbender into live-action, the Netflix series was still largely faithful to the source material. Plots were condensed, swapped around, or altered, but the same general arc of the season held in place. Aang and the gang traveled to the Northern Water Tribe as they were pursued by Zuko and members of the Fire Nation.
Along the way, however, there were changes and the biggest one that bookended either side of the first season was Sozin’s Comet. In the original series the comet was introduced part way into the first season, explained to Aang by Avatar Roku. He laid out that the comet’s power was able to be harnessed by Firebenders, amplifying their powers. 100 years previously Fire Lord Sozin used this to start the Hundred Year War and,...

Despite the disappointing reviews of Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender, one character gave a peak moment in the series for the fandom. Yvonne Chapman played Avatar Kyoshi, a past Avatar two reigns before Aang and the Last Earthbender, in the series. Kyoshi had a more prominent role than in the animated series, which only featured her in four episodes during its three-season run.

Editor’s note: The following post contains spoilers for Netflix’s “Avatar: The Last Airbender.”
Albert Kim needs you to know that he is an “Avatar: The Last Airbender” superfan.
The writer and executive producer of Netflix’s live-action retelling of the Nickelodeon cartoon took on the role of showrunner after creators Michael Dante Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko exited the series — but he was already part of the writers room and a longtime “Avatar” fan before that.
“I did work with [Dimartino and Konietzko] for a short period, and we overlapped while we were here and I got along great with them,” Kim told IndieWire ahead of “Avatar”s February 22 premiere. “I was excited just as a fan to be able to dig in and ask my own nerdy fan questions about Zuko’s mom and who Aang’s parents might be, and all the fun stuff fans like to talk about.

In the canon of great television intros, few hit harder than the opening number of Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Each episode of the animated series begins with a brief rundown of the show’s setting and concept, as recited by the character Katara (voiced by Mae Whitman). In just under a minute, Katara gets viewers up to date with everything they need to know to enjoy the proceedings, saying:
“Water. Earth. Fire. Air. Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them. But when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years passed and my brother and I discovered the new Avatar – an Airbender named Aang. And although his airbending skills are great he has a lot to learn before he’s ready to save anyone. But...

Koh the Face Stealer had only a very brief appearance in the original Avatar: The Last Airbender series but he made an impression that will stay with you well into your nightmares. A spirit with the ability to steal the face of any being who shows emotion to him, this horrific spirit has proven to be a big hit among fans. With his appearance in the Netflix series, voiced by none other than George Takei, we look back on everything we know about Koh from both the animated and Netflix series.

This article contains spoilers for the live-action "Avatar: The Last Airbender."
"Avatar: The Last Airbender" is one of the best and most influential American cartoons of the past 20 years. It's a show that Mark Hamill once worried was "too smart" for TV, delivering the kind of worldbuilding we normally associate with George Lucas' "Star Wars" or J.R.R. Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" while telling a story full of complex themes like war and genocide through the lens of a children's cartoon series. "The Last Airbender" even gave us the golden standard for redemption stories on television.
One particularly great aspect of the cartoon is the idea of the reincarnation cycle, which makes the Avatar stand out from other fantasy heroes. Throughout the original animated show, we learn about different incarnations of the Avatar, who provide wisdom and different perspectives. They also expand the world and history of "The Last Airbender,...

The Electric Mayhem Band is breaking up after Disney+ canceled its latest Muppets show.
The streamer has axed live-action series The Muppets Mayhem, which comes from The Goldbergs creator Adam F. Goldberg, after one season.
The ten-part series was released in May but Disney+ never disclosed any ratings for the show.
The cancellation marks a blow for plans for a wider Muppetverse; Goldberg previously expressed interest in branching out using the classic IP, which includes some of Disney’s most recognizable characters.
It is the latest cancelation at Disney+ this year; other shows to have been axed include The Spiderwick Chronicles, which has since been shopped to Roku, National Treasure, Doogie Kamealoha, M.D., Willow, Big Shot and Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.
Developed and written by Goldberg and Muppets veteran Bill Barretta and Jeff Yorkes, the series followed The Electric Mayhem Band as they went on an epic musical journey...

While there’s plenty to be said and appreciated about cozy, comforting horror that offers catharsis, the genre’s ultimate aim is to terrify, shock, and even repulse. Of course, there is no shortage of ways that filmmakers accomplish this, frequently through gore, violence, and potent scare tactics, but transgressive horror is in a league of its own.
More than just gore, transgressive horror films revel in the taboo. Transgressive horror shatters cultural norms and seeks to explore beyond the boundaries of taste and social sensibilities, challenging viewers with shocking and sacrilegious imagery and themes. And yet, it’s not solely for shock value; transgressive horror has more on its mind than simply gore and depictions of depravity. There’s a purpose behind the pain. This week’s streaming picks are for the seekers of extreme cinema, unafraid to test their limits.
Here’s where you can stream them this week.

Netflix has earned a lot of goodwill from animation fans thanks to its rather successful live-action adaptation of "One Piece." Now, the streamer is hoping to cash in on that with its next big live-action remake of a hugely popular animated show: "Avatar: The Last Airbender."
Like the original, Netflix's "Last Airbender" is a fantasy epic set in a world where people can control one of the four elements, but only the Avatar can wield all of them. The show follows Aang (Gordon Cormier) as the titular Avatar, a 12-year-old who has to learn to master the elements in order to stop the evil Fire Lord Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim) from conquering the world. Thankfully, he isn't alone. Along for the ride are Katara (Kiawentiio) and Sokka (Ian Ousley) -- as well as Fire Nation prince Zuko (Dallas Liu), who vowed to capture the Avatar to reclaim his honor.

It’s that time year again—when one might, upon their daily neighborhood perambulation, casually stumble upon a man dressed in a blood-splattered full-body jumpsuit and think to themself, this is perfectly fine and normal. Campbell, of course, is remembered for the popular late 1980s/early 1990s rap group 2 Live Crew — which managed to even hit the Billboard charts with song titles that Casey Kasem wouldn’t say out loud on “American Top 40.” But 2 Live Crew’s lasting impact was its First Amendment fights, via Campbell and the group’s obscenity trials and Supreme Court parody cases.

Fewer and fewer films are receiving physical media releases nowadays, so there's always cause for celebration when a media company deigns to do what media companies used to do as a rule and release one of their movies to Blu-ray.
The latest recipient of this all-too-rare honor is "Weird: The Al Yankovic Story." This is somewhat surprising given that The Roku Channel skipped a theatrical release and sent the film straight to its streaming platform. Yankovic had requested a limited, Oscar-qualifying theatrical run, but Roku preferred to focus on the Primetime Emmys, which paid off with nominations for Daniel Radcliffe (Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie) and Yankovic himself. While I would've loved to see Yankovic vie for a Best Original Song Oscar, Roku probably made the right call here.
But thanks to Shout! Studios, fans will at the very least own their own physical...

A version of this story about “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” first appeared in the Down to the Wire: Drama and Limited Series issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
There’s a somber reason Niecy Nash-Betts is happy about her fourth Primetime Emmy nomination. “I feel like it brings more attention to Glenda Cleveland and her story (that was) going unheard, overlooked and underserved,” Nash-Betts said of her character in “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” the first season of a planned Netflix anthology series, “Monster,” from Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan.
Though “Dahmer” is ostensibly focused on serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, it
seeks to give a face, voice and story to his victims. One of the indirect victims was
Cleveland, Dahmer’s neighbor, who repeatedly called the police after suspecting that the Milwaukee killer was harming people in his apartment. Despite her pleas, Cleveland was ignored by police.

It’s good to be HBO — er, “HBO Max” — er, “HBO / Max.” How big was the pay cabler-slash-streamer when it comes to this year’s Emmy nominations? In the supporting actor in a drama category, the outlet held all eight slots (on the backs of just two programs: “Succession” and “The White Lotus”), and in supporting actress, it was six of the eight.
In a nomination announcement filled with surprises, there was one that was absolutely a given: “Succession” would dominate, and, Roy, did it ever: The outgoing HBO drama scored 27 nominations — including best drama, lead actress (Sarah Snook) and a record three lead actor noms. Even a good chunk of the show’s supporting cast managed nods, including J. Smith-Cameron, Nicholas Braun, Matthew Macfadyen, Alexander Skarsgård and (for the Conheads in the house) Alan Ruck.
Whatever you call it (they’d now like to be HBO-slash-Max), the network actually...
