President Trump incited outrage this week after it was reported that he allegedly told a group of members at his New Jersey golf club that the reason he visited so often was because “that White House is a real dump,” according to Golf.com. Trump has since tweeted that the report is “totally untrue.”

When it comes to the Manhattan Theatre Club’s upcoming production of Lillian Hellman’s The Little Foxes, which will see Laura Linney and Cynthia Nixon playing Regina Hubbard Giddens and Birdie Hubbard in repertory appearing opposite each other during every performance, it’s anybody’s guess at how exactly it’s going to come together. “It’s a big experiment for everybody,” says Linney, who actually suggested that she and Nixon rotate the roles and, admittedly, has no idea if it’s actually going to work. “I love that I have no idea.” For both actors, it’s quite possible the greatest thing about it.
“The bizarre thing is trying to find your own Regina and your own Birdie while the actress across from you is also trying to find it,” Nixon says, while adding that the whole concept is “very liberating.”

Sleepy Hollow offers up a fun, bloody bottle episode that finally gives Katrina something to do other than pout...
This review contains spoilers.
2.13 Pittura Infamante
Though I’ll always prefer Ichabod and Abbie as a team in any adventure, this week we have two different pairings in an episode that diverges a little from the norm.
We don’t begin this week with the usual intense fake-off monologue, but with an especially bloody opening scene. The blood continues to flow as Ichabod and Katrina’s night out turns from a date into an impromptu couple’s sleuthing mission. It seems an 18th-century serial killer has started hopping out of a painting - on view at the dinner party the Cranes are attending - and continuing his deadly work on an unfortunate art restorer. Abigail Adams, whom we learn was Katrina’s Bff, had once hunted down the guy and had him banished into said painting.

The back half of “Sleepy Hollow” Season 2 got off to a shaky start last week, as Katrina’s terrible life choices continued to hamstring the group. But as much as we want to lay the blame at the feet of Ichabod’s wife, it’s hard truth time: the show’s been wobbly for all of the sophomore season. The show has simply gotten bogged down by its own weight. Too many plots, too many characters, not enough truly bonkers one-off villains and too little of the dynamic of Ichabod and Abbie that made the first season so much fun. You know it, I know it. Apparently even the writers know it, because “Pittura Infamante” cut away the festering romantic quadrangles and hand-wringing angst about Henry's soul in a (successful) attempt to right the ship. ******** For the first time in forever, **strains of “Frozen” soundtrack play in the distance**, the...

Sleepy Hollow, Season 2, Episode 13, “Pittura Infamante”
Written by Melissa Blake
Directed by John Leonetti
Airs Mondays at 9pm (Et) on Fox
Last weekend during the Fox executive session at the Television Critics Association press tour, Fox chairman and CEO Dana Waldron talked at length about their plans for the spring, which included thoughts on the direction of Sleepy Hollow. Waldron held off on announcing a season three renewal (even after handing them out to Empire, Gotham, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine), but said they were “hopeful” and there were ongoing conversations with the creative team. Citing a “high level of difficulty” in balancing the show’s characterization and mythology, she said that the show was “a little overly serialized” and promised that there would be a shift to “something that feels a bit more episodic in nature… it’s all about calibrating the show, not making dramatic changes.”

What Sleepy Hollow needs this week is a kickass, Abbie-and-Ichabod-against-impending-evil power hour.
What it gets is the Cranes’ date night from hell, with splashes of the Mills sisters being fantastic and Irving being inexplicably alive.
The latter — plus Ichabod, of course — would’ve been plenty for those of us who don’t hate Katrina, but also don’t need her harshing the Witnesses’ vibe solving crimes. I don’t begrudge Red the chance to do some fun stuff, but let’s leave the heavy lifting to the God-chosen frontline of the anti-apocalypse army, shall we?

New Sleepy Hollow Photos Show Ichabod & Katrina’s Date Night, Michelle Trachtenberg As Abigail Adams
Sleepy Hollow ended its winter finale with a game-changing development when Ichabod and Katrina’s son Jeremy, better know as Henry Parish (played by Fringe‘s John Noble), decided to kill Moloch instead of his parents in the closing moments of the episode. Since Moloch has been Sleepy Hollow‘s major “big bad” since the show started, if he really is dead, the main question many of the show’s fans are now asking right now is what’s next for the supernatural series? What or who will be the next major threat that Ichabod, Abbie, Jenny and Katrina must go up against? Unfortunately, these new photos from Episodes 12 and 13 of the show don’t shed any light on any new villains that will soon be visiting; however, they still do give us some interesting things to talk about. For example, the photo above shows what looks like a date night between Ichabod and Katrina,...

Chicago – The awesomeness of history loses any of its stuffiness with the incredibly fun, indeed educational show “Drunk History” from Comedy Central, its two seasons now released on DVD. Hosted by its creator Derek Waters, the show is a celebration of various historic figures and their under-appreciated true tales, as expressed by funny people narrating in the universal language of inebriation; their recounts are then reenacted by famous actors working with their given dialogue, dressed with the comic cheapness of a bloated biopic.

Sleepy Hollow has already given us many fun versions of our favorite historical figures, from George Washington to Benedict Arnold to Benjamin Franklin. However, it looks like it’s time for the supernatural series to now focus on the ladies of Ichabod’s time, starting with Abigail Adams. Sleepy Hallow has finally found their First Lady! Michelle Trachtenberg has been confirmed to guest star as Abigail Adams, the wife of second Us President John Adams and the mother of Quincy Adams. Abigail will be taking part of action with Katrina Crane in a secret friendship. The episode will explore a fiction side of her that the writers felt added to the story. No word on when her episode will air or what fans can fully expect yet. However, it will likely be a very important episode in their ongoing story.
I have to say that I am surprised by their choice. Michelle would be someone that I would think be slightly too young to play that role. Granted, we are not sure how old they will make her character, but we assume it will be closer to her older years than younger, hence why they picked a former First Lady.

"If particular care and attention is not paid to the ladies, we are determined to foment a rebellion, and will not hold ourselves bound by any laws in which we have no voice or representation."
Abigail Adams (née Smith; 22 November 1744 - 28 October 1818), wife of John Adams, the first Vice President, and second President, of the United States, and the mother of John Quincy Adams, the sixth President.
Adams's life is one of the most documented of the first ladies: she is remembered for the many letters she wrote to her husband while he stayed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, during the Continental Congresses. John frequently sought the advice of Abigail on many matters, and their letters are filled with intellectual discussions on government and politics. The letters serve as eyewitness accounts of the American Revolutionary War home front.

When it comes to acting, Laura Linney knows no fear. She has embodied everyone from steely First Lady Abigail Adams in HBO's John Adams to Fdr's mousy cousin/lover in the recent biopic Hyde Park on Hudson. But with her Golden Globe-winning performance on The Big C, she took on a seemingly impossible feat: making cancer funny.
Now the show is being put to rest with a four-episode finale, but neither Linney nor her character, Cathy, is going down quietly. Tonight's episode finds her struggling with chemotherapy — she wants to stop treatment so she can feel well enough to take care of her family and make sure they'll be strong enough to survive without her.
Soon after the show's fourth season wrapped, the 49-year-old three-time Emmy winner shared her thoughts about the end of Cathy's journey.

Laura Linney has already taken a turn playing the wife of a President as Abigail Adams in the John Adams miniseries; now she's going to play a mistress. According to Deadline she's signed on to play Daisy, the distant cousin and probable mistress of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, in Hyde Park on the Hudson, a drama about what happens when that affair is revealed during a visit from the King and Queen of England. As we wrote about when the project when we first learned about it, the king and queen who pay the visit are King George VI and his wife, making it a kind of sequel to The King's Speech if you want to think of it that way. I still haven't quite gotten over the news that Bill Murray is on board as Fdr, making it both the strangest and most potentially brilliant casting choice I've heard of...

Sarah Palin's new book, America by Heart, goes after President Obama's insufficient patriotism, his health-care bill, and Hillary Clinton's "bra-burning militancy." Shushannah Walshe says it's an early look at Palin's messaging for the 2012 campaign.
Sarah Palin's new book, America by Heart, comes out Tuesday, and she will hit the book tour trail the same day in support of her newest work. If Palin decides to get into the 2012 race for president, America by Heart, which lays out her views of the nation and how to make it better while also going after President Obama, is sure to be her handbook.

Although she praises Obama for parts of the 2008 speech on race he delivered as a candidate for president, she is scathing in her criticism, setting up plenty of future talking points and arguments. "We have a president,...

John and Abigail Adams left an indelible—and remarkably preserved—portrait of their lives together in their personal correspondence, exchanging more than 1,200 letters. In his new book, First Family: Abigail and John Adams (Knopf, October 28), Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Joseph J. Ellis distills their written record, revealing the political and personal insights behind a half–century partnership that endured the American Revolution and the Republic’s tenuous early years. Below, Ellis discusses “the greatest strain on their marriage,” in 1778—when the future president (ten-year-old son John Quincy in tow) left Abigail for 18 months for diplomatic duty in France. The Founding Fathers get a Broadway makeover in this three-hour Declaration of Independence musical – but what did Richard Nixon think?

The Second Continental Congress was a meeting of delegates from the colonies of North America.
It declared independence from Britain in 1776.

Most history flicks feature at least two of the following elements: swordfights, explosions, gladiators, spies, pirates, cowboys, Nazis, heaving bosoms, cavalry charges, sex, intrigue, murder, torture, ridiculously large guns, and Henry VIII. Work out how to get all of those into one movie, and your fortune is made. The Second Continental Congress, landmark of world history though it was, featured none of them. It was a group of men sitting in a stuffy room in Philadelphia, arguing over details of policy. For six years. Not only have the makers of this film bravely attempted to turn this into popular entertainment,...

If Laura Linney already was happy to be doing "The Big C," she got even happier when Cynthia Nixon came on board last week.
The two Emmy winners team up for the first time on the seriocomic Showtime series that premieres Monday, Aug. 16. Linney stars as a wife, mother and teacher with a complicated personal life -- and cancer -- while "Sex and the City" alum Nixon will enter at the first season's midpoint as a former college roommate who suddenly reappears.
"Cynthia came in for our first [joint] table read last week," Linney tells Zap2it, "and we are so excited. She and I have known each other for many, many years ... not well, but you know of each other, you see each other backstage and you root for each other.

I've been asked to devote this week's column to this issue's theme, "how to." And since The Working Actor appears on the last page of our printed publication, I've chosen to address what's often the last "how to" of a performer's career: how to change professions. It's a decision that certainly isn't for everyone, and one that's particularly difficult for us, because for actors there's always the proverbial carrot at the end of the stick: We hear stories about those who, just when they'd lost hope, booked the acting job of their dreams. And there's always that next audition (maybe it will be the one?) and the occasional praise of respected colleagues. But at a certain point, some performers—even highly successful ones—find that these dangling carrots no longer offer enough incentive to continue the sometimes disheartening pursuit of an acting career. And that's when they face the next question: What now?...

Recession? What recession? Some brave restaurateurs are defying the economic gloom and doom and opening new places. We take a look at the design behind a select few. Today, Woodward in Boston--where a hip colonial might take his wench.
When it comes to strange bedfellows of design, combining the cutting-edge aesthetic of Morgans Hotel Group and the historic architecture of Boston is like imagining Snoop Dogg at the bar with Abigail Adams. It's easy to look ridiculous, tough to get right.
That, in a nutshell, was the schizophrenic challenge facing the Rockwell Group, when they got the nod to design the Mhg's latest outpost, the Ames Hotel in Boston, which opened in November 2009.

I have one huge complaint about Laura Linney: I don’t see her enough.
Not that she’s idle. She’s currently in Manhattan Theater Club’s production of Time Stands Still with Alicia Silverstone, which opens Thursday.
She has three movies scheduled to premiere this year: Sympathy for Delicious with Mark Ruffalo, Morning with Jeanne Tripplehorn and The Details with Tobey Maguire. She’s also starring in a new Showtime series, The Big C, with Oliver Platt and Precious star Gabourey Sidibe.
The New York Times profiled Linney Sunday, calling her the “little black dress” of entertainers: “Simple, elegant, appropriate for any occasion.” Odd metaphor aside, the point is that Linney is an incredibly versatile actress, whether she’s being adorable, elegant or insufferable.
Her acting wins raves from critics not prone to star worship, like this one from the Times’ Ben Brantley on her role in Sight Unseen.

Showtime announced Friday that it will begin filming 13 episodes of The Big "C" starring (and co-produced by) Laura Linney for a fall debut. Formerly known as The C Word, the comedy about cancer's producers must have realized how silly it sounded to have a near namesake with the most famous lesbian series from the same channel, and thankfully changed the title.
Linney, whose TV fame includes her Emmy-winning role as Abigail Adams in HBO’s John Adams and movie career includes hits like Kinsey and Love Actually, will star in The Big C as a “reserved suburban wife and mother whose cancer diagnosis rocks her life, in some ways for the better.” The series is slated as a dark comedy in which Linney, after her diagnosis, re-prioritizes her life and finds humor and positivity. Showtime’s president of entertainment, Robert Greenblatt describes Linney’s character’s journey as “complex, requiring layers of comedy and drama.

Laura Linney said she enjoyed the six months it took to make the ambitious miniseries “John Adams,” which is airing on HBO Sunday nights.
Linney, who plays Abigail Adams, traveled to Hungary for the seven-part miniseries (scenes set in both Holland and France were filmed outside Budapest). The cast, including Paul Giamatti as founding father John Adams, also filmed in Richmond, Va., and in Virginia’s Colonial Williamsburg, both of which have a wealth of historic buildings.
“I’m not a history buff, but I understand why people can become addicted to it,” Linney said in a phone interview before “John Adams” debuted March 16 (my review of the miniseries is here, several other reviews are here). “We all read a lot” as preparation for filming.
But there was one aspect of the filming that she couldn’t prepare for and which she didn’t enjoy: The corsets she wore were a real pain,...
