  • On 1 November 2003, her engagement to King Felipe VI of Spain was announced. After their marriage in May 2004, she inherited the title Princess of Asturias, and upon his ascension to the Spanish throne in June 2014, Letizia became Queen of Spain.

The birth occurred one day before the second anniversary of the announcement of her engagement to Crown Prince Felipe of Spain. The child had the title Infanta of Spain with the style Her Royal Highness. After his father was crowned King, Leonor inherited his title as Princesa de Asturias, which makes her the official heir of the throne of Spain.
  • Her sister Erika Ortiz Rocasolano, a literary agent, was found dead in her Madrid apartment at the age of 31 (7 February 2007). She left a daughter named Carla Vigo Ortiz (b. 2000).
  • Gave birth to her second child, a daughter named Sofía on April 29, 2007. The child bears the title Infanta of Spain.
  • Sister in law of Cristina de Borbón and Elena de Borbón.
  • Her sister Telma Ortiz Rocasolano gave birth to first child, Letizia's second niece Amanda, on March 2008.
