A popular notion among fans, which has led to a lot of inevitable backlash in the past couple of years, is that Disney didn’t plan the Sequel Trilogy in advance, but it seems that Lucasfilm was thinking of bringing back Palpatine even before the premiere of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
The Rise of Skywalker, despite backtracking from almost every controversial decision that Rian Johnson made in Episode VIII, proved to be just as divisive as its predecessor, if not more. With J.J. Abrams rushing through the plot and cramming as much exposition as possible into the 142-minute runtime, the Mouse House had to address several narrative elements through tie-in novels, including the resurrection of Darth Sidious and Rey’s lineage as a Palpatine. The former, in particular, managed to draw a lot of heat, since most people assumed that Abrams turned to the Emperor because Johnson had exhausted...

Exclusive: As he prepares to re-start production on Jurassic World: Dominion, director Colin Trevorrow is re-teaming with Universal Pictures on Atlantis, a thriller about the mythical city that Trevorrow and his Metronome Film Co. will produce.
Based on a story by Trevorrow and Matt Charman (Bridge Of Spies), Atlantis will be written by Dante Harper, whose scripts include the original spec All You Need Is Kill that became the Tom Cruise thriller Edge Of Tomorrow, Alien: Covenant and most recently Forever, scripted for Rogue One director Gareth Edwards.
Unlike previous incarnations of the mythical city as an underwater kingdom, Trevorrow’s Atlantis is set on a lost continent in the Indian Ocean between Africa, India and Oceania. It is a multicultural civilization with its own advanced technology.
Trevorrow first hatched it in late 2018, but kept the project under wraps to give his creative team — led by production designer Kevin Jenkins...

Fans were justifiably annoyed that they had to wait until the novelization of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker to find out how Emperor Palpatine survived being exploded in Return of the Jedi. Even then the answer we got felt like Lucasfilm was papering over the cracks, dropping in a couple of lines about secret cloning technologies and leaving it at that. I’m firmly of the belief that resurrecting dead characters is a sign you’re not telling a particularly interesting story, and that if you’re doing it you’d better have a damn good explanation as to how they’re coming back.
Anyway, it’s now been established that The Rise of Skywalker featured a cloned Palpatine body inhabited by his spirit. We also know that Abrams had been planning this for quite some time. Visual Effects Supervisor Roger Guyett recently chatted with Cinefex, where he explained...

The 24th annual Art Directors Guild Awards, which honors the best production design in film and television, took place Saturday, February 1. All eyes were on the Period Film category, which this year had four nominees match up with the Oscars for Best Production Design: “The Irishman,” “Jojo Rabbit,” “1917” and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” The other two Adg period contenders were “Ford v Ferrari” and “Joker,” while the Oscars’ fifth bid went to “Parasite,” which was up for Contemporary Film at the guild. Scroll down to see the full winners list for the 2020 Adg Awards.

On December 9, the Art Directors Guild announced the nominees for its 24th annual awards, which will be handed out on Feb. 1. These kudos have a stellar record at previewing the Academy Awards. Over the first 23 years of these prizes, the eventual Oscar winner for Best Production Design has always numbered among the Adg nominees in the various categories.
According to our expert predictions, period film contender “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood” is the clear frontrunner to win the Oscar for Best Production Design. We expect that three of its rival in that race at the Adg — “The Irishman,” “Jojo Rabbit” and “1917” — will also contend at the Oscars. The fifth Academy Awards nominee is expected to be “Little Women,” but its odds might lengthen after being snubbed by the guild.

“Ford v Ferrari” – François Audouy
“The Irishman” – Bob Shaw

So much for “The Lion King” avoiding the animation label. Despite Disney’s best efforts to position Jon Favreau’s all-cg, photo-realistic game changer as a “live-action” awards contender, it grabbed Golden Globe and Art Directors Guild nominations on Monday for Best Animated Feature and Animation Film Production Design. And Disney had nothing to do with it.
That’s because the Hollywood Foreign Press Association chose to switch “The Lion King” from Best Motion Picture — Comedy or Musical (as submitted by Disney) to the animation category, while production designer James Chinlund submitted his own work to the Adg as an animated feature. (Disney encourages its craft artists to self-submit to guilds and professional organizations.)
Likewise, IndieWire has learned that “The Lion King” editors Adam Gerstel and Mark Livolsi submitted their work to the American Cinema Editors for Ace Eddie Awards consideration in animation.

All of the Oscar contenders were well represented, including Bong Joon Ho’s Lafca Best Picture winner, “Parasite,” and period standouts “1917,” Sam Mendes’ innovative, single-shot, World War I thriller, “Joker,” Todd Phillips’ blockbuster origin story, which channeled gritty ’70s New York as Gotham City; Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” which gave a 50-year facelift to Hollywood Blvd.; and Martin Scorsese’s sprawling mob epic, “The Irishman,” which crammed 117 locations for 309 scenes.

“The Irishman,” “Ford v Ferrari,” “Jojo Rabbit,” “Joker,” “1917” and “Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood” on Monday all nabbed nominations for the Art Directors Guild Awards’ period-film category, the Adg category that most closely corresponds to the Academy Award for Best Production Design.
In the Adg fantasy-film category, which typically supplies one or two Oscar nominees, the guild singled out “Ad Astra,” “Aladdin,” “Avengers: Endgame,” “Dumbo,” “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” and “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”
Both of those categories were expanded from five to six nominees because of ties.

J.J. Abrams and co-writer Chris Terrio currently face two big questions as they approach production on Star Wars: Episode IX.
For starters, how do they go about closing out Lucasfilm’s Skywalker Saga in a way that satisfies as much as it thrills? And perhaps most important of all: what do they do with the character of Luke, who met his end in the climax of The Last Jedi?
It’s no secret that Mark Hamill’s Jedi Master took his last breath soon after his Force projection deceived Kylo Ren on the salt plains of Crait, but the ambiguous nature of his ‘death’ has led many to believe that the galaxy’s most famous farm boy will be making a return come 2019 – Force ghost or not. After all, they can’t really close out the current trilogy without him, right?

Star Wars: The Last Jedi rewards careful viewers, and one of the more interesting and subtle moments was spotting Luke Skywalker’s iconic X-Wing sunken in the shores off his island home on Ahch-To. I was thinking about why we saw this and, aside from explaining how Luke got there in the first place, it functions as a red herring to preserve the twist of Luke’s Force projection in the finale. After all, without a working ship there’s no way he can leave the planet (and we already know the X-Wing can survive immersion in water from Empire).
But, according to the book The Art of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, its appearance was originally to have been far more prominent. It was film designer and artist Doug Chiang who originally created concept art showing Luke’s X-Wing underwater, but art director Kevin Jenkins wanted to take things in a slightly different direction,...

A source told The Sun newspaper: ''They got back together...

''We all make our own choices...but I wish I had done more and hopefully prevented what happened. I feel so guilty ... I said a couple of times that it had to stop. But nearly every time...

If you haven't seen Edge of Tomorrow you need to see it! This is easily one of the most entertaining movies of the year. It has everything that we love about the movies, action, comedy, drama, adventure, and badassery. Doug Liman did an amazing job directing this movie, and Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt were freakin' awesome! I actually liked it more than X-Men: Days of Future Past.
A set of incredible concept art that was created for the movie has surfaced online, and all of this stuff is stunningly beautiful. The illustrations come from artist Kevin Jenkins who said:
"I was brought on by Warners Bros at the very early stages of the production. Initially working with Doug and then Oliver when he joined. I led the team that helped concept develop the exosuit which took about six months of work, some of the images had all of the...

Kevin Jenkins is a dude who has opened for a lot of neat folks. Cyndi Lauper, Roberta Flack, Maxwell, to name a few. The dude’s music oozes a vibe that’s perhaps more at home with the legendary R&B greats than the current spate of talented folks. Jenkins’ music really nails home a kind of relaxing, atmospheric feeling that would perfectly accompany a night of relaxation.

Michael Sackler-Berner occasionally lands a gig as an extra on television. Like in 2009, when he played "Band Member #1" on an episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent about a bunch of loft-dwelling, homicide-prone bohemians in Brooklyn.
In his few seconds onscreen, it's easy to tell Sackler-Berner's comfortable in the role. That's because in real life he is a Brooklyn-based musician -- minus the murder.
And he's no extra. Last month (Feb. 16), the singer-songwriter celebrated the digital release of two new singles, "Yes I Do" and "Shimmer and Shine," with a packed show at Joe's Pub in Manhattan's East Village. His band featured class acts Liberty DeVitto, Ben Stivers, Kevin Jenkins and David Mansfield, and ran through a stacked set of heart-felt originals. (The singles were officially released on iTunes last week.)

Former NBA star Antoine Walker is a cold-hearted, trash-talking homewrecker -- at least according to a guy who's suing Walker for $5,000,000 ... claiming Antoine stole his fiancée. Walker -- who last played in the NBA in 2008 -- is accused of putting the moves on an engaged woman a few months ago ... and then laughing at her jilted man when she dumped his ass. It's all in a lawsuit filed Tuesday in Chicago -- in which Kevin Jenkins...
