In 1994, you couldn't escape "Forrest Gump." The Robert Zemeckis-directed comedy-drama starring Tom Hanks was huge — it hauled in $678.2 million at the worldwide box office, which made it the second-highest-grossing film of '94 (the first-highest grossing film was "The Lion King"). From there, "Forrest Gump" would go on to Oscar glory, winning six Academy Awards — Best Picture, Best Director for Robert Zemeckis, Best Actor for Tom Hanks, Best Adapted Screenplay for Eric Roth, Best Visual Effects, and Best Film Editing for Arthur Schmidt. It was a cultural phenomenon, and TV reruns would eventually make it even more ubiquitous.
The story follows Forrest Gump, a man with an Iq of 75 who somehow stumbles through several major events in American history throughout the 1960s and 70s. This concept allowed Zemeckis to use what was then cutting-edge visual effects that would drop Hanks into historical footage and have him "interacting" with real-life prominent...

Oscar-winning director Robert Zemeckis developed an interest in film and television at an early age and first worked in his native Chicago as an editor for TV commercials and news programs. This work led him to apply as a transfer student to the University of Southern California film school where his application material included a music video, set to a song by The Beatles. (Not surprisingly his first film would be “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” about a bunch of high school students obsessed with Beatlemania.)
He was initially rejected by USC but he begged an official to reconsider and promised to bring his low grade point average up by attending summer school. This brashness would also play a big part in his initial success as a director when he barged into Steven Spielberg’s office with a copy of his student film and asked Spielberg to employ him. The...

The beloved Tom Hanks flick, Forrest Gump, which narrates the tale of a sweet but simple-minded common man who unintentionally finds himself at the center of significant moments in American history, is commemorating its 30th anniversary this summer.
Robert Zemeckis’ directorial was one of the biggest hits of the 1990s, no doubt. It took home six Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Director. It makes sense that audiences find comfort in the story of the slow-witted man who never loses sight of his true love, Jenny (Robin Wright). Truly, what a work!… Well, not really.

Yes, beneath the catchy quotes and Hanks’ remarkable emulation of the character, Forrest Gump is actually a surprisingly heartless film that presents an optimistic exterior.

Tom Hanks is known for his good-guy characters in his films. Be it romantic comedies such as You’ve Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle, or dramas such as Forrest Gump and Philadelphia, the actor always plays roles that represent the morally right side of humanity. With his penchant for such sweet roles, he has been nicknamed the Dad of Hollywood.
However, Hanks reportedly does not have the need to stick to such roles. He recently played Elvis Presley’s antagonistic manager Col. Tom Parker in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, which was different from his usual good-guy roles. He has also mentioned that he fought against decisions made by directors to portray him as a good guy, especially in a pivotal scene in his Oscar-winning film Forrest Gump.

While it didn’t quite surpass the popularity of The Lion King, which dominated the box office, Forrest Gump still made an impressive $679 million, according to The Numbers.

Thanks to the generation-defying success of "Star Wars" and the obsessive passionate fanbase that followed, no stone has gone unturned in documenting the making of George Lucas' epic, fantastical space opera. Whether it's acknowledging how Lucas revived a 1950s form of filmmaking technology to pull off the effects or how Freddy Krueger himself, Robert Englund, helped Mark Hamill land the role of Luke Skywalker, you don't have to be a film historian to put together a timeline of how "Star Wars" came to be. As impressive as it is to hear all about the technical mastery that went into making spaceships, planets, alien creatures, and the iconic costume designs, there's also a lot of fun to be had to learn about the backstage hijinks the cast and crew got into.

If you tuned into "Saturday Night Live" for the first time in awhile, you may have taken a look at this weekend's host Shane Gillis and thought, "Who the hell is this?" Thankfully, the comedian rather self-aware of this surprising turn for "SNL," even acknowledging that he probably shouldn't be on the stage in Studio 8H at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. That's because, a few years ago, Gillis was actually hired as a featured played for "SNL," but he was quickly fired from the show before his debut after some racially insensitive jokes from his own comedy podcast came to light and created a swell of controversy around him. Gillis seems to regret those comments, as he implored those unfamiliar with him not to Google what got him into trouble, but he didn't exactly apologize, so it's still a fairly awkward situation all around.
Speaking of awkward, that's pretty much what we got for this entire episode.

Saturday Night Live host Shane Gillis sported a mullet and a southern accent to play Ricky Monroe, an alum of Greenbow High School who graduated alongside Forrest Gump.
Mikey Day got to channel the Tom Hanks character while Gillis’ Ricky recalled fond memories of chasing Forrest in a truck and throwing rocks at him.
“Goddamn he was dumb,” Ricky said to former classmates. “Remember how he was always saying momma, life is like a box of chocolates.”
But then Ricky realizes just how much he underestimated Forrest, who goes on to win the reunion trophy for the most successful graduate. Ricky’s shocked to learn that Forrest is a billionaire while he only owns two jet skis.
Ricky then tries to interfere with Forrest’s shoutouts to his mom, his longtime love Jenny, his close friend Bubba and Lieutenant Dan who lost his legs in Vietnam — all to disastrous results.

Francis Ford Coppola's 1982 musical "One from the Heart" opens with the rattle of a roulette pill over a black screen. The shouts and dings and hopes and hopes and lamentations of the casino are nowhere to be heard. It's just that damn ball clattering across that spinning wheel, daring bettors to pick a number and a color. When the rotation slows and the pill finds its slot, the red-light logo of Zoetrope Studios cuts through the dark of the theater.
Coppola's wager? Everything. He'd pushed all-in on the outsized dream of an artist-controlled movie studio nestled in the heart of Hollywood. Everyone who bought a ticket to see the film on opening day knew that the most celebrated filmmaker of the 1970s had risked it all to revolutionize an exclusionary industry. He wanted every craftsperson of every creed/color/class to soar as far as their talent would take them,...

Did you ever watch “Forrest Gump” and wonder what it would be like if Forrest didn’t run during that section of the film and instead walk, accompanied by a Rolling Stones soundtrack? Well, if so, you’re in luck because that’s the basic premise of the new music video for the track “Mess It Up” by the aforementioned Stones. Except in the main role, we don’t get Tom Hanks, but we do see Nicholas Hoult, which isn’t a bad replacement.

Robert Zemeckis' 1994 Oscar darling "Forrest Gump" is a preachy, mawkish glob of syrupy sputum hocked from the throat of conservative America right into the face of the more daring, queer, artistically ambitious indie fare coming to the fore at the same time. It tells the story of a mentally disadvantaged man (Tom Hanks) who leans unthinkingly into every traditional trope of regressive Americana and meets nothing but success and fame. Forrest Gump is good at running and becomes a high school football star. He serves in the army and becomes a hero. He is very good at table tennis and becomes an Olympic champion. He tries his hand at small business -- shrimping -- and succeeds. He has an Iq of 75 and becomes a billionaire by following the rules.

Frederic Forrest, who earned critical acclaim opposite Bette Midler in The Rose and collaborated with Francis Ford Coppola, has died. He was 86.
Other than earning both Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for playing Huston Dwyer — the opposite end of a doomed relationship — in 1979’s The Rose, Frederic Forrest is perhaps best known for playing Jay “Chef” Hicks, who loses his head both mentally and literally, in Apocalypse Now the same year. For both performances Forrest was recognized by the National Society of Film Critics as that year’s Best Supporting Actor.
Bette Midler took to Twitter to pay tribute to her co-star, saying Frederic Forrest was a “remarkable actor” and “brilliant human being.”

Jessie James Decker is facing some backlash over an Instagram story post where she called her tattoos “trashy.”
She posted a series of Instagram stories asking her fans if they knew any good places she could get her tattoos removed.
In the first one, she posted a photo of the back of her neck showing an Aries tattoo. She captioned the photo: “I want this removed asap. I want all my tats removed tbh. They trashy and I’m over it. But this is the priority. Anyone have a Nashville recommendation to remove this in 3 visits or less ”
After receiving negative comments she fired back at commentators posting again on her story. In the photo, she is lying on her bed and she captioned it: “To clarify for the sensitive folk… I think My tats are trashy and I don’t want Mine anymore. Not yours. I love your tats.

I’m a huge fan of the slasher genre. Out of every sub category in the wide horror genre, the slasher appeals to me the most. There’s just something thrilling about watching characters attempt to survive a monster in a mask that wants to butcher them to bits. Despite it being one of the most successful subgenres of film, it hasn’t really cracked the video game space all that much. Sure we’ve had gems like Friday the 13th, and some inversions of the genre like Until Dawn. But for the most part, if you want to live out the fantasy of being in a slasher film, the pickings are slim.
In comes Killer Frequency to change all of that; and it’s an absolute blast. If I had to pin it down, it feels like playing a video game version of the opening of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2...

The last episode gave us an indication that Maisy’s mother would play a crucial role in the next season. So, let’s find out what this season has in store for the audience.
Spoilers Ahead
Justin And Riley’s Wedding
Justin is back at the lake, awaiting the return of Billie. Riley and Justin got back together in the last season, and it’s been a year ever since. Riley asks Justin to marry him because he feels it is the right time to do so, and it would also allow Justin to stay close to his family cottage, even though it’s filled with people he despises. Justin initially hesitates because of the divorce, which puts a lot of strain on him. But...

Forrest Gump lived a famously full life. Perhaps a little too full, if you ask Tom Hanks.
Appearing on a panel at The New Yorker Live this week, the actor recalled the extensive travel that was required for the role that won him his second Oscar. As Hanks remembers it, the grueling process of filming the montage of Forrest running across America made it difficult for him to show up for the film’s most important scenes.
“I was so exhausted because we had shot twenty-seven days straight,” Hanks said. “Remember how Forrest ran across the country? Well, there’s only one way to get those scenes, in those days. You had to fly to the goddamn place, put on the costume, run for an hour and a half, then go back, get on the plane, and then fly to, say, New Hampshire, and do it all over again. So I’m exhausted.
