- (February 29, 2000) Longtime guitarist Dennis Danell passed away from brain aneurysm, leaving Mike Ness the only constant member of the band. Current guitarist Jonny "2 Bags" Wickersham would be Danell's replacement.
- Past members of the band are: Rikk Agnew (guitar, 1979-1980), Frank Agnew (guitar, 1979-1980), Dennis Danell (bass, 1979-1981/guitar, 1981-2000), Timothy Maag (bass, 1979) Brent Liles (bass, 1981-1984), John Maurer (bass, 1984-2004), Matt Freeman (bass, 2004-2005), Casey Royer (drums, 1979-1981), Derek O'Brein (drums, 1981-1984), Bob Stubbs (drums, 1984), Chris Reece (drums, 1984-1994), Randy Carr (drums, 1994-1995), Deen Castronovo (drums, 1995-1996), Chuck Biscuits (drums, 1996-1999) and Charlie Quintana (drums, 1999-2009).
- Longtime bassist John Maurer leaves the band and his replacement is Matt Freeman from Rancid. (August 2004)
- The new album, "Sex, Love and Rock 'n' Roll", is released. This is their first studio recording since 1996's "White Light White Heat White Trash" and it marks their first album without longtime guitarist Dennis Dannell, who passed away in 2000. (September 2004)
- Announced that there will be a "Greatest Hits" album to be released in June, containing one never released track "Far Behind", which was originally intended to appear on the follow-up to "Sex, Love and Rock 'n' Roll". (May 2007)
- Are very well known for their hit singles "Ball and Chain" and "Story of My Life" (both from the "Social Distortion" (1990) album).
- (To date) Released six full-length studio albums: "Mommy's Little Monster" (1983), "Prison Bound" (1988), "Social Distortion" (1990), "Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell" (1992), "White Light White Heat White Trash" (1996) and "Sex, Love, and Rock 'n' Roll" (2004). They also released one compilation album, "Mainliner: Wreckage from the Past" (1995), and one live album, "Live at the Roxy" (1998).
- Are considered one of the most successful punk bands from California, along with Bad Religion, Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Green Day, NOFX, The Offspring, Pennywise and Rancid.
- Their hit single, "Story of My Life", has been played in many movies, such as Reality Bites (1994), Orange County (2002), Life or Something Like It (2002) and The Break-Up (2006).
- (As of 2009) Current members of the band are: Mike Ness (guitar, vocals), Jonny "2 Bags" Wickersham (guitar), Brent Harding (bass) and Atom Willard (drums).
- Just finished touring and they plan to start recording their new album sometime around early 2007. (November 2006)

- Matt Freeman is no longer in Social D. and his replacement is Brent Harding, who was part of Mike Ness' solo project. (February 2005)

- The band has finished recording "Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes", their first album since 2004. A November release date is expected. (August 2010)
