Some bands feel like they’ve been by your side for your entire life. Anime fans may feel this with Asian Kung-fu Generation , a Japanese alternative rock band that came together in 1996. Consisting of Masafumi Gotoh, Kensuke Kita, Takahiro Yamada and Kiyoshi Ijichi, the group has an incredible music catalog consisting of several (and we mean several ) anime hits. From Naruto to My Hero Academia and Erased , if you’re an anime fan, you’ve definitely heard this group at some point (or seen them referenced in series like Bocchi The Rock! ). Welcome to another installment of Have You Heard? from Crunchyroll, the ongoing series where we sit down with iconic musicians worldwide to celebrate thousands of music videos and concerts arriving on Crunchyroll. This month you can check out our conversation with Asian Kung-fu Generation as they talk about how they originally got together, how seeing their fans gives...

Although Netflix is still working its way around the Asian movies in its catalog, in terms of series the quality is quite high, with a quality in terms of production values of many of them being comparable, if not better with feature films. “Sanctuary”, which takes a look at the world of sumo, is definitely one of those films.

Kiyoshi Oze, aka Enno, the most hot-headed sumo wrestler, has been presented to us in a Netflix original Japanese sports comedy, Sanctuary. Kiyoshi Oze, a young lad from Fukoaka, won the Sumo Jonokuchi category and has joined Okayata Ensho’s stable to battle in the forthcoming tournaments. While Enno had impressive talent in wrestling, he wasn’t a big fan of consistent practice. His arrogant personality was another factor that was hurting his chances of success. However, over time and after a few tournament victories, Enno realized that only winning the tournaments wasn’t necessary, as he would also have to win the hearts of his spectators as well. Although Enno’s unusual and intimidating persona was entertaining to watch on television, the series aimed to show a shift in Enno’s behavior during his career as a wrestler, conveying the message that all it takes to be an ideal...

What does it take to become a world-class athlete? No, I’m not referring to any specific sport, but in general, the most important traits of sportsmanship are motivation, dedication to the sport, and humbleness. In the Netflix Original Japanese sports drama Sanctuary, the sumo champion-in-the-making, Kiyoshi Oze, showed his incredible skill and commitment to his sport, but he lacked the most crucial quality of all: decency and humility toward his fellow competitors. The protagonist of the tale is a novice sumo wrestler named Kiyoshi Oze, aka Enno, who recently won the Jonokuchi division of Sumo and joined the famous Ensho stable to improve his wrestling. But Kiyoshi isn’t drawn to Sumo because he loves it; rather, all he needs is money. Nevertheless, despite being a talented wrestler, his bratty attitude causes all the other stablemates to dislike him. Let’s see if Oze ever learns the value of...

Sanctuary is a Japanese film directed by Kan Eguchi, starring Wataru Ichinose, Shôta Sometani y Shiori Kutsuna,
If you expect something traditional from the Japanese country… not at all. Sanctuary is a very modern and humorous series about the world of sumo, the Japanese most famous sport.
About the series
A very realistic series in certain aspects, but without ever forgetting the fictional premise. It is the story of a boy who reveals himself to be arrogant and full of flaws but ends up conquering the public in a sport rooted in tradition.
The series seeks a bit of this, to combine the traditional with the modern show, to give a pick of the ins and outs of this intricate sport.
Is it a great series? To be honest, we are not going to recommend it. It is not a series that stands out at the production level, although it...
