Before there were horror movies, there were legends. Passed down through oral tradition, our earliest ancestors created colorful fables of vengeful gods, malevolent witches, and ravenous beasts lurking in the darkest corners of the night. Often told to entertain, these spooky tales also included hidden warnings about the dangers of straying from the path, disobeying one’s parents, or breaking social norms. As the years have passed between then and now, so have the stories. Horrific tales of poisoned apples have become whispered warnings to check Halloween candy for razor blades. Trolls lurking in the woods have transformed into a hook-handed murderer haunting lover’s lane.
Contemporary legends are more likely to be shared in an email forward than around the campfire, but their functions remain the same. These tales exist to help us navigate an unpredictable world and their subjects have evolved alongside our cultural fears. We’ve also updated our methods of delivery,...

Lisette Olivera, Zuri Reed, and Jordan Rodrigues in Disney+’s ‘National Treasure: Edge of History’ episode 8
With just two episodes left in season one of Disney+’s National Treasure: Edge of History, things are really heating up. Episode seven ended with Jess concluding she needs to break her father out of a prison in Mexico. Episode eight picks up with Jess’s dad, Rafael (Jacob Vargas), in for a shock when he sees Billie (Catherine Zeta-Jones) has come to visit him.
Billie accuses him of killing her brother and Rafael denies it, insisting it was Salazar who killed her brother. Billie demands the last relic or else she’s going after Jess. “You’re about to find out how it feels to lose the person you love more than anything else in the world,” warns Billie.
Oren (Antonio Cipriano) desperately tries to talk Jess (Lisette Olivera) out of breaking her father out of prison.

Disney+’s National Treasure: Edge of History episode seven is filled with one shocking twist after another, beginning with a fake tape implicating Jess in Sadusky’s murder. Agent Ross (Lyndon Smith) and her boss, Agent Hendricks (Armando Riesco), seem to believe the recording is real, and Hendricks instructs Ross to get a warrant for Jess’s arrest.
Episode six found Jess (Lisette Olivera) convinced she needed to travel to Mexico to talk to Salazar about the third relic. Tasha (Zuri Reed) and Oren (Antonio Cipriano) were equally convinced she’d never be able to return to the States if she left the country. That conversation continues in episode seven, and Tasha and Oren decide that if they can’t talk her out of it, they’ll go with her.

On Watchmen, the enigmatic Lube Man was the hero that no one deserved, needed right now, or even asked for…but he was beloved all the same.
As depicted very briefly in Watchmen’s fourth episode, Lube Man patrolled the streets of Tulsa, Oklahoma with two bottles of Spf-666 to keep himself as lubricated as possible and able to squeeze through tight spaces. The show’s supplemental material strongly hinted at Lubey’s real identity. But now his identity has officially been revealed.
In a new video from Rolling Stone in which chief TV critic Alan Sepinwall chats with Watchmen showrunner Damon Lindelof, and musicians Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross about the show’s soundtrack, Lube Man stops by unannounced. He begins to hack into the video around the 20-minute mark and then finally breaks through 25 minutes in.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Watchmen” Episode 7, “An Almost Religious Awe.”]
An inevitable comedown after last week’s masterpiece, “Watchmen” Episode 7 tries to swap groundbreaking storytelling for long-craven explanations, going so far as to unveil its biggest twist yet. Yes, some folks foresaw that Dr. Manhattan isn’t actually on Mars, and instead has been hiding on Earth under the guise of Cal Abar (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) — but did they know that Angela was receiving recovery treatment from an elephant? Did they know the origin story of Sister Night? Did they know Bian (Jolie Hoang-Rappaport) isn’t the daughter of Lady Trieu (Hong Chau), but her mother? Did they know Jane Crawford (Frances Fisher) was part of the “insidious conspiracy” meant to turn Senator Keene (James Wolk) into Dr. Manhattan 2.0?

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Watchmen” Episode 3, “She Was Killed by Space Junk.”]
Damon Lindelof likes his jokes. Since a joke is just a story with a punchline, it should come as no surprise that Lindelof tells his jokes just like he tells the rest of his stories: There’s an intriguing premise, a lengthy middle (with a few curious twists and turns tossed in), and the punchline is often a thinker. He told a great joke, perhaps the greatest I’ve ever heard in a TV drama, during “The Leftovers” Season 2, stretching a knock knock joke from the premiere to the penultimate episode before revealing the sum total of its payoff.
So, like just about everything else in “Watchmen,” when Laurie Blake picks up the telephone to speak with Dr. Manhattan (casting Tba) at the start of Episode 3, “She Was Killed by Space Junk,” it wasn’t simply for her or his amusement. In...

Emmy Award-winner Jean Smart has embodied some memorable television characters over the past three and a half decades, from office manager Charlene Frazier-Stillfield (“Designing Women”) and former high school flame Lana Gardner (“Frasier”), to first lady Martha Logan (“24”) and family matriarch Floyd Gerhardt (“Fargo”). Her latest small-screen role is sure to follow in those footsteps: In HBO’s “Watchmen,” she plays the formidable FBI agent Laurie Blake, who happens to have a mysterious superhero past.
How did you most connect with Laurie when initially reading the “Watchmen” script?
When I first read the script I just loved it and loved the role and when I spoke to Damon [Lindelof, the creator] I was worried he was going to say that he didn’t want her to be all that funny but I found her very funny and was hoping he agreed. And he did; he said, “She’s got to be funny.” So...

Dustin Ingram, who is best known for his roles in the movie Cabin Fever and one or two episodes of just about every show on TV since the mid-2000s, has been cast in HBO’s upcoming Watchmen series, written by Damon Lindelof, and based on the popular comic series by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. Here is a synopsis for the series, from Deadline:
Watchmen is considered a dark satirical and dystopian take on the superhero genre. Set in an alternate history where “superheroes” are treated as outlaws, Watchmen embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel while attempting to break new ground of its own.
Ingram is joining a pretty established cast that already includes Regina King (If Beale Street Could Talk), Jeremy Irons (Justice League), Don Johnson (Django Unchained), Jean Smart (Dirty John), Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr. (An Officer and a Gentleman), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II...

“You know that’s actually Devon in the portrait?”
Looking in the mirror and realizing you don’t know who’s looking back, and that no one else knows either, sucks. ‘Whispered Secrets’ ends with Richie staring at a hole in the world where his wife’s portrait used to be, its pale spot on a wall a blocky halo for a head mired in a swamp of confusion. These people haven’t just lost track of each other; they’ve lost track of themselves. In a world like the record business where identity is a commodity and managers spin personas out of necessity and bullshit, all that shit is up for grabs even before you watch a sleep-deprived Italian beat a dude to death with his own radio award.
Devon spends the episode trying to dredge something up out of the chaos and confusion her life with Richie has bcome.

Riddle me this – why remake Cabin Fever, a cult-classic that demands no update, and furthermore, why use the Same stinkin’ script? It’s only been 15 years since Eli Roth launched his gory brand through this little creepshow, and each victim’s festering wounds still hold up surprisingly well against today’s effects, both indie and mainstream.
Granted, Roth does lodge a producing credit, so new director Travis Zariwny is in good graces, but original ideas are already disappointingly scarce enough. There’s no plausible reason to throw a movie we’ve already seen into the 2016 horror mix. No matter how trivial both sequels might have been, at least they attempted something Different. Don’t believe the marketing campaign for Cabin Fever (2016), and its claims that new kill sequences revamp Roth’s infectious brainchild. This is the ultimate remake cash-grab, in the most unnecessary of ways.
Do I need to run a plot recap here?...

I loved the original Cabin Fever! Remember when Cerina Vincent was shaving her legs and her skin started coming off?! Ick! Now, just 14 years later, they’ve remade Cabin Fever.
The director of the original, Eli Roth, is Executive Producer this time for the reboot of his instant classic gorefest, which features all new characters and all new kills. This story is familiar: fresh out of college, a group of five friends retreat to a remote cabin in the woods for one last week of partying- only to become snacks for a gruesome, flesh-eating virus. What’s surprising are the ingenious new deaths, which offer a fresh spin on a horror-comedy milestone. With Gage Golightly (Teen Wolf) and Dustin Ingram (Paranormal Activity 3).
The new Cabin Fever is directed by Travis Zariwny and stars Gage Golightly, Dustin Ingram, Nadine Crocker, Matthew Daddario & Samuel Davis

The first trailer has been released for the remake of Eli Roth’s 2002 horror gore-fest, Cabin Fever, and it doesn’t look much different than the original film. I actually kind of enjoyed the first movie, but I have no desire to watch this remake. It’s completely pointless. It’s the same freakin’ story but with different actors. Why was money wasted on remaking this movie?
A group of five friends rent a getaway cabin in the woods and begin to fall victim to a horrifying flesh-eating virus, which attracts the unwanted attention of the homicidal locals.
The movie was directed by Travis Zariwny, who is a former production designer and camera assistant, and the cast includes Gage Golightly, Matthew Daddario, Nadine Crocker, Dustin Ingram, Samuel Davis, Louise Linton, and Randy Schulman. Cabin Fever hits theaters on February 12th.

Another day, another remake. The first official trailer for the remake of Eli Roth's 2002 horror film Cabin Fever has arrived online. I don't know why anyone felt it was necessary to remake this horror film, but they went for it anyway. Eli Roth actually executive produced this new version of his freaky horror hit, which is full of pretty people screaming and getting all bloody and chopped up. The cast includes Gage Golightly, Matthew Daddario, Nadine Crocker, Dustin Ingram, Samuel Davis, Louise Linton and Randy Schulman. Nothing I'm interested in seeing, but if you're curious about this film, give this trailer a look. You might think Eli Roth's breakout film, "Cabin Fever," which spawned two sequels, the most recent of which arrived two years ago, would be a property perhaps worth pausing on at the moment. The first trailer has been released for "Cabin Fever," the remake of the cult 2002 Eli Roth-directed body horror film. Roth returns as executive producer on this new take helmed by Travis Zariwny which opens in limited release and On Demand on February 12th.
Gage Golightly, Dustin Ingram, Nadine Crocker, Matthew Daddario, and Samuel Davis star in the film which seems to boast much more of a shot-for-shot look than expected. The original deals with a group of horny teens holidaying in a log cabin when a deadly virus causes havoc - leading to some gruesome, bloody kills.

The second Cthulhu figure in a three-part series from Warpo will be available this fall. Also: a trailer for The Inhabitants, first details on IFC Midnight's acquisition of Cabin Fever, El Rey Network's Stephen King marathon, and Last Shift on Blu-ray.
Warpo's Cthulhu Figure Series: Press Release: "Chicago, Il (September 9, 2015): Warpo, creators of the Legends of Cthulhu action figures, today released part two of three of Cthulhu: The Great Old One, their retro commercial series for the forthcoming 12” Cthulhu figure.
In keeping with the company’s method manufacturing, the process of development by which Team Warpo creates everything with the mindset and methods of the late 1970s to mid-1980s, the commercial series was created with the look and feel of being an “uploaded artifact” from the era – a rip from an old VHS tape that was used over and over again to capture storylines for the sandbox adventures of childhood.

Eli Roth has a lot of fans, God bless him, and he’s carved out a space in the horror world, while still pulling in some interesting acting roles. Still, sometimes news makes you scratch your head.
IFC Midnight has scooped up a remake of Roth’s Cabin Fever, and though we all know that a certain number of horror films have to come out every year, this is a theory that has to make even serious horror fans wonder what’s going on. The idea was announced about a year ago, but you almost had to have the idea that it might go away.
It isn’t just that it’s a remake of something that doesn’t necessarily need a remake, especially since the original is from 2002, but it seems that a lot of people involved in this remake are really interested in it. Really really.

(Cbr) Eli Roth has made just four feature films in the past 12 years, but one of them is already getting a remake of sorts. Deadline reports that "Cabin Fever," the director’s 2002 feature debut, will get a remake or, more accurately, a reshoot. Basically, director Travis Zariwny will use the same script Roth wrote with Randy Pearlstein for the new version. Roth is on board as producer for the film, which starts shooting this week in in Portland, Oregon. There cast includes Gage Golightly ("Teen Wolf"), Dustin Ingram ("True Blood"), Samuel Davis ("From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series"), Matthew Daddario ("Delivery Man") and Nadine Crocker ("Some Guy Who Kills People"). Zariwny helmed the sci-fi creeper "Scavengers" as well as "Intruder," which is supposed to come out this year.

If you never saw Eli Roth's "Cabin Fever" twelve years ago, don't sweat it, because a remake is coming out that will pretty much be the exact same film. In fact, Roth himself is producing this do-over, which will use his original script and bring Gage Golightly, Dustin Ingram, Samuel Davis, Matthew Daddario and Nadine Crocker into the woods. Production is now underway with Travis Zariwny directing the same movie. Again. [Variety] Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, aka Key and Peele, have a number of film projects in the works, but their first out of the gate will be "Keanu." And no, it's not what you think. Starting filming next April, this movie will center around a kidnapped cat. And if anyone can make that something like that work, it's these guys. [Deadline] The next project from Peter Strickland of "Berberian Sound Studio" and "The Duke of Burgundy" fame takes a step back in time.

A remake of Eli Roth's 2002 hit Cabin Fever is coming. Using the exact same script. That'll save a few quid...
This is a slightly odd one. A remake is pressing ahead of Eli Roth's 2002 horror hit Cabin Fever, that's going to be directed by Travis Zariwny. Zariwny's latest film, Intruder, is currently in post-production, and on top of his directorial career, he's got varied credits on a whole host of other movies.
His next project, however, is something of an odd one. It's an odd decision in its own right to go for a remake of something such as Cabin Fever, just over ten years since it proved to be a modest commercial success (leading to sequels). But this is a remake that's apparently going to use the exact same screenplay as the first film. Word for word. Even the shot for shot Psycho remake added a new scene.

It was 2002's indie horror tale "Cabin Fever" that announced the arrival on the scene of filmmaker Eli Roth. Roth's subsequent two "Hostel" films earned a reputation for torture porn and maybe taking the sadism too far.
Yet "Cabin Fever" still holds a decent reputation for not just the ick factor - such as the infamous leg shaving scene - but its absurdist comedy moments as well. It was a refreshing film in that there wasn't a killer stalking this group of teens in the woods but rather a really nasty flesh-eating virus.
With two forgotten Dtv sequels under its belt, Armory Films and Pelican Point Media decided earlier this year to reboot the property. Today, The Wrap reports that Eli Roth is returning for the new "Cabin Fever" and will serve as executive producer.
There's more though, it turns out the reboot will be a direct remake with Roth...

Eli Roth's Cabin Fever is now twelve years old: plenty old enough, apparently, to be ripe for the remake treatment.
