Among the treasure trove of damning government documents leaked by Edward Snowden in 2013 that exposed the Nsa’s vast surveillance activities was one that detailed a secret U.K. program known as Phantom Parrot. It allows authorities to stop people entering the country in order to download their personal data from their phones and other electronic devices, even without their knowledge.
It’s also the title of Kate Stonehill’s debut feature documentary, which premieres in the Zurich Film Festival’s Border Lines sidebar. “Phantom Parrot” traces the case of U.K. human rights activist Muhammad Rabbani, who was found guilty in 2017 of a terror-related crime for refusing to provide his passwords to police at London’s Heathrow Airport under Britain’s Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
Rabbani is the international director of advocacy group Cage, which assists individuals who have been affected by state policies related to the so-called “war on terror.

Hidden Immunity Idols have been a “Survivor” staple since Season 11, “Guatemala,” when Gary Hogeboom found the elusive token. Since then, idols are being used on a much more strategic level, with some finders even playing it on other people in the game. It is an added layer to the game that continues to make players even more paranoid than they already were, fearful of being blindsided by the finder. But who’s found the most idols on “Survivor”? Scroll down for the updated list.
Some “Survivor” contestants are dangerously good at finding idols. Once you find one, it generally becomes easier to know what to look for. Players like Russell Hantz, Tony Vlachos, Tai Trang, Rick Devens and Kelley Wentworth have all attained multiple idols in the same season. Not everyone plays their idol correctly, and some infamously fail to play them at the right time, resulting in their elimination.

This week Elizabeth Olson became the latest castaway in “Survivor” history to go down as the “merge boot.” Typically at merge the player seen as one of the biggest threats in the game is eliminated first–exactly what kind of threat that player is varies greatly depending on the cast and the alliances of their season. In Elizabeth’s case she was voted out unanimously, on one hand a volatile personality that was targeting strong Goliath members and on the other a viable sacrifice her fellow Davids were willing to make.
So how does Elizabeth stack up when compared to merge boots of the past? Below take our poll to decide who was the biggest merge threat in “Survivor” history. To help you decide we’ve narrowed the field down to our Top 12 and most iconic contenders for the title and offer a brief analysis of why they were threatening below.

Parquet Courts’ lead singer Andrew Savage, one-half of the Brooklyn-by-way-of-Texas band’s two-headed leadership, is mad as hell. While on the opposite side of the stage, bandmate Austin Brown is getting wistful. That yin-and-yang of punk and funk – as Savage notes in the opening track to “Wide Awake!,” “Total Football:” “Collectivism and autonomy are not mutually exclusive” – lends itself to the very human dilemma at the heart of Parquet Courts’ fifth album, “Wide Awake!”
Often cited as part of the continuum of downtown New York art-guitar bands — from the Velvet Underground through Television to the Strokes — Parquet Courts are the perfect example of rock miniaturization, refining what they do to a hard diamond for those in-the-know. By enlisting pop wunderkind Brian “Danger Mouse” Burton as their first-ever outside producer, Parquet Courts has opened up its musical palette even more than most recent effort, 2016’s ballad-laden “Human Performance.”

In Thursday’s Grey’s Anatomy, Alex repeatedly reminded a young patient that nothing’s as bad as broccoli. However, the doctor’s own situation came pretty damn close. Not only was he charged with felony assault in the second degree, but Jo made it clear that they were through, and Bailey decided that he could no longer operate at Grey Sloan. Could his prognosis get any worse? Thankfully, no. Read on, and we’ll get to the one ray of hope with which “Catastrophe and the Cure” left Karev.

Don't feel bad for Joe Anglim.
When Survivor returns on Wednesday night, he'll be noticeably absent during the challenges. The rest of the tribe correctly determined that he was a threat to win the whole game and voted him out on day 31.
But Anglim, 27, will be just fine.
"Joe is athletic," host Jeff Probst told People earlier this season. "Joe is good-looking. Women want to date Joe; men wish they were Joe. He's got a lot of skills that make him good at life, but a threat at Survivor"
Case in point: Anglim competed so hard in an immunity challenge that he passed out.

"Survivor" Season 31 (yes, can you believe it?) is now airing, and "Survivor: Second Chance" is one of the best competitions CBS has ever aired. Maybe it's the returning players, all "losers" hungry for a win, or the many twists that have only improved the gameplay and have yet to feel like desperate gimmicks. It's rare to have so many players pushing to win, with very different strategies, and we can't wait to see who ends up the sole survivor of "Survivor: Cambodia."
Who will it be?
Well, the edits certainly give us some hints. For example, we could've told you it wouldn't be Kelly Wiglesworth even before she was eliminated in Episode 9, since she had almost no screen time, including confessionals. Spencer Bledsoe is still the confessional king. The producers have him narrating the season, like this is his story and everyone else is a supporting player. Then again,...

Tonight's episode, kicked off with conversation footage. Andrew talked to Jeremy about possibly voting off Ciera or Kelly Wentworth. Meanwhile, Ciera suggested to Steven Fishbach that they vote out Joe. From there, they showed Rewards Challenge footage. It was a crate stacking challenge. They were split into two teams for this. And Keith, Ciera, Wiglesworth, Wentworth, Joe and Kimmi's team won it for a sweet goodies at Survivor Cafe prize. Next, Steven tried to suggested to Andrew that Joe get voted out after worrying he was bonding with an alliance. Andrew didn't seem too convinced. After all that, they showed Immunity Challenge footage. It was an endurance challenge where they had to balance a ball on a disk, and Joe pulled out the win for a 2nd consecutive time! Steven's name came up as a target from Joe after finding out Steven was plotting to get him voted out.

For a show in its 31st season, Survivor has managed to keep things remarkably fresh and new.
A lot of the credit goes to host Jeff Probst and the producers, who throw in a liberal amount of twists and turns so that contestants never truly know what's coming. Over the years, we've seen tribal swaps, fake merges, hidden immunity idols and double eliminations. (We're going to pretend that Redemption Island and the outcast twist never happened.)
But sometimes, the twists are not masterminded by the producers. Contestants have come up with ingenious strategies to change the game.

Woo Hwang came into this season of Survivor with a lot of baggage.
When the 31-year-old martial arts instructor played in Survivor: Cagayan, he made a colossal mistake in taking eventual winner Tony Vlachos to the finals even though he may have had a better chance against Kass McQuillen, who had rubbed some of the contestants the wrong way.
That choice cost him the game.
During his second chance, Hwang's game never really got off the ground. He went to nearly every tribal council and watched as his allies were voted off.

According to current Gold Derby odds, Kass McQuillen has leading 13/10 odds to be the first elimination of the new merged tribe. All season we've seen a new side of Kass, dubbed "Calm Kass," a more personable version of "Chaos Kass" that played "Survivor: Cagayan." Last week Chaos Kass came out to play, blindsiding Andrew Savage who had initiated a plan to vote out Spencer Bledsoe. Siding with her nemesis, Kass chose to save Spencer, but will the emergence of the old, diabolical Kass lead to her elimination? -Break- Let's take a look at the two sides of Kass and how each has made an impact on the season so far. "This game all comes down to that critical moment in the game – and that is moments before tribal council, what are we going to do?" –Yung "Woo" Hwang, Survivor: Cagayan
"You must trust and believe in people, or Survivor becomes impossible," Anton Chekhov would have written if he had a Survivor blog.
You have to trust people to play the game.

This week’s episode of "Survivor: Second Chance" is titled "Bunking with the Devil," which immediately begs the question -- this is about Abi-Maria Gomes, right? Having played a vigorously emotional game so far, Abi-Maria has somehow lasted through four Tribal Councils and seems to be in a majority alliance with Tasha Fox and Andrew Savage. But how much longer can she actually last? Hurry -- make your "Survivor" predictions for a chance to win a $100 Amazon gift certificate. Rumor has it that there was a contestant named Monica Padilla on this season of Survivor – although it's not surprising if you didn't notice.
For whatever reason, the editors of Survivor Cambodia: Second Chance chose to hide her for much of the season, giving her hardly any airtime. When she finally did get some confessionals on Episode 5, she went home.
It was a surprising lack of character development for a smart contestant who could have been lethal. Before the season began, several of this season's contestants told People that they were afraid that Padilla would aggressively walk away with the game.

Survivor: Second Chance recap Season 31, Episode 4 (original airdate Oct. 14): While total respect goes to Andrew Savage for digging deep (I mean really deep, even beating out Jeremy) to win the reward challenge for team Angkor, it still wasn’t enough to turn around the tribe’s luck when it came to winning immunity. In the end Angkor headed back to Tribal Council where Jeff Varner was voted off on episode 4 of Survivor: Second Chance. Here’s the short version on how things went down. The feeble five (those who were left of Angkor) returned to their desolate camp — … Continue reading →

Tonight's episode, kicked off with the usual conversation footage. Kelley Wentworth expressed how happy she was to snag up the immunity idol during the last immunity challenge. Meanwhile, Jeff revealed that he wanted to go ahead and get either Shirin or Spencer out early because they're gaming hard right now. Spencer told the private cams that Abi was basically awful and hated that he had to work with her. Andrew told the private cams that he definitely didn't like the fact that Stephen Fishbach was already searching for an immunity idol. Abi started a fight with Peih-Gee at one point after Abi overheard her talking about her behind her back. Terry moved in to offer Abi some protection in the game, and she was definitely open to it since all the girls turned on her. Next, they showed immunity/rewards challenge footage. It was an obstacle course and puzzle challenge.

Once again, Survivor contestants from the past are returning to compete for the million dollar prize once more. Many viewers have expressed disappointment that CBS keeps bringing back contestants and these editions haven't done better in the ratings. Is it time for this reality competition to be cancelled? Will it be renewed for a 33rd season (season 32 has already been filmed)? Stay tuned.

For 36 hours after being voted onto the all-star season of “Survivor: Second Chance” in a live TV special last May, the cast of the CBS reality hit were sequestered in a hotel, preparing to depart for Cambodia. Without TV, phones, or Internet, they didn’t even have any idea how the moment played out on TV. However, during the L.A. press availability for Season 31, TheWrap asked returning “Survivor” alums including Kelly Wigglesworth, Kass McQuillen, Spencer Bledsoe, Stephen Fischbach, Terry Dietz, Jeff Varner and Andrew Savage to watch and respond to the news they had been hoping for — some of them for 15 years.

Well, this should be fun.
CBS has released the first details of Survivor Cambodia: Second Chance, and the season sure looks like a winner.
In May, America voted for the cast of the long-running franchise's 31st season. They chose 10 men and 10 women who had competed once before but hadn't won the game.
By and large, America got it right, although the omission of Survivor: Africa's Teresa Cooper was a heartbreaker.
Still, multiple sources have told People that the season turned out to be one of the franchise's strongest in its 31-season history. Here's what to expect:

A new "Survivor" champ has been crowned and the winner is ... Mike Holloway! The Texas oil driller walked away with the million dollar check during the landmark 30th season of "Survivor: Worlds Apart," and after that finale, there was no doubt that the 38-year-old would take home the top prize. This season, the competitors were divided into tribes based on their social class: white collar, blue collar and no collar. Holloway was a member of the blue collar tribe, Escameca, ending up in the top three with Carolyn Rivera and Will Sims. He beat out his competition in all three challenges and got some help from an unexpected guest ... his mom! Congrats on being the Sole Survivor, Mike! Besides crowning a winner, host Jeff Probst also revealed the cast of season 31 of the hit series, which will feature fan-favorites from previous seasons of the show. Rather than selecting returning players unilaterally and listening to fans complain about the latest return for Rupert or a confusing return for a castaway even superfans don't remember, "Survivor" has left the decision somewhat up to America to determine the 20 castaways for Season 31. On Wednesday (May 6) at the end of the latest episode of the less-than-lackluster "Survivor: Worlds Apart," CBS formally announced what had long been rumored across the Interwebs. There are 32 candidates up for the "Second Chance" season. As the word "second" implies, this season will only be open to one-time former players who didn't win, so all of your Hantzes and Ruperts are out. Thank God. Instead, this group of 32 includes contestants going back to original "Survivor: Borneo" runner-up Kelly Wigglesworth. And then there are five candidates from the current season, including two who haven't been eliminated yet, which is either an annoying spoiler or not, but I'm...
