John Oliver Hoped Finland’s Partially Nude Windows95man (and His Giant Denim Egg) Had Won Eurovision
John Oliver had a favorite performer in this year’s Eurovision contest.
On HBO’s Last Week Tonight, the host opened the show by addressing the annual international music competition, which crowned its latest winner this weekend.
“The Eurovision Song Contest took place amid a slew of controversies, from calls for boycotts over Israel’s participation to the last-minute elimination of this Dutch contestant for alleged unlawful threats backstage,” Oliver said. “It was a lot of serious news around what is usually a magnificently silly competition, which to be fair still had some striking contestants, from Baby Lasagna from Croatia to Bambi Thug from Ireland to my absolute favorite, this guy from Finland.”
Oliver then played a clip of Finnish competitor Windows95man, who kicked off his performance of his song “No Rules!” while inside a large egg covered in denim. Watch the full performance below.
Oliver’s take: “Yes!

Andy Serkis was absolutely incredible as Caesar in the relaunch of the Planet of the Apes franchise. Throughout the three movies, the actor made the audience connect with the highly intelligent chimpanzee. Fans were absolutely heartbroken when Andy Serkis’ Caesar met his end in War for the Planet of the Apes. Needless to say, the actor’s portrayal of the character was a huge reason behind the success of the films.

The actor gave his all to the character, so much so that he unexpectedly took the method acting route when it came to bringing Koba to life.

Last Week Tonight can’t stop collecting awards—even outside Emmy season.
John Oliver’s HBO show just won its third Peabody Award, this time for an episode covering the Israel-Hamas War.
The program was among 27 nominees announced last month in the Arts, Children’s/Youth, Entertainment, and Interactive & Immersive categories. The nomination specifically recognized the November 2023 episode titled “Israel-Hamas War.”
In announcing the show’s win today, The Peabody Awards Board of Jurors wrote: “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver offered an important corrective to the media landscape awash in misinformation and decontextualized vitriol just weeks after October 7,” it said. “Though ostensibly a ‘comedy’ show, Last Week offered one of the best encapsulations of the conflict in all of media.”
Oliver’s show is now 3-for-3 at the Peabody Qwards. It was nominated and won in 2015, and again in 2018.

One major problem that plagued most Arrowverse shows was CW’s inability to end them at the right time. While most of them started on a high note, especially Grant Gustin’s The Flash, which was the biggest superhero show on TV upon its release, the writers couldn’t carry the momentum in the later seasons. But things could have been very different for the CW show that started it all, Arrow.
Had CW stuck to the original plans for the show, Arrow could’ve ended on a really high note, as instead of going on for 8 seasons, season 5 was originally intended to be the show’s end.

In the season 11 premiere of Last Week Tonight, host John Oliver made a playful offer to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas when he proposed that if Thomas resigned from the court, he would receive a new motorhome and an annual payment of $1 million from Oliver himself until one of them passed away.
Oliver said on his show, “A million dollars a year and a brand-new condo on wheels, and all you have to do in return is sign the contract and get the f— off the Supreme Court.” Oliver told the justice to respond to his offer in 30 days.
Thomas did not accept the offer within the allotted 30-day period, which led to mixed emotions for Oliver.
Oliver revealed that the contract was real. He and his team spoke to experts about the possibility, and everyone agreed, “This is somehow legal.” He added that HBO itself would not front the money on the deal.

Last Week Tonight host John Oliver almost indentured himself to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
A few months ago, he made Thomas an offer: if he would resign, Oliver would give him $1 million a year until one of them died, plus a new motor home. He gave Thomas 30 days to accept.
Thomas, as we all know, is still on the Supreme Court, and Oliver admitted his relief during an appearance Monday on Late Night With Seth Meyers.
“It was both a huge relief and massively disappointing that he didn’t take it,” he told Meyers. And even though Oliver’s wife was not thrilled when he made the initial offer, he said he’d be willing to make the offer again.
“As long as he gets out before they’re doing the June decisions, I would be willing to open discussions again,” Oliver said. “If you want to get in...

In the world of late night, there are sore losers and then there are whatever you’d call Seth Meyers’ response to losing the 2024 WGA Award for Best Comedy/Variety Talk Series to good friend/fellow host/frequent stand-up partner John Oliver.
Oliver played guest to Meyers on Late Night Monday, where the two talked about their ongoing residency at New York City’s Beacon Theatre—and the awkward things that can happen when the show has ended and they turn the stage into a space for a no-holds-barred Q&a with the audience.
While Oliver noted that “we do tell people that they can, and possibly should, leave” before the interactive portion begins, Meyers said that he really enjoys this part of the show. He then explained how “a very funny thing happened [during] the last Q&a. Both of our shows had been nominated for the Writers Guild Award,...

In 1977, she landed her signature role of perky Patty Simcox, Grease‘s embodiment of pep and school spirit.

John Oliver used his opening segment on Sunday’s Last Week Tonight to talk about the “hard crackdown” on college students in the U.S. protesting the Israel-Hamas war.
He showed clips from a live Fox News report at Columbia University in New York.
“Police swarmed campuses in numbers so extreme; this student summed it up pretty well,” he said.
The clip started out with a reporter asking a student protestor, “What do you think about the NYPD moving in?”
Replied the student: “It’s insane. We have a right to protest. We have a right. Look at that. That’s fucking crazy.”
The reporter then asked: “What are you gonna do if you get arrested?”
The student replied: “I can’t really do much.”
The reporter pressed on: “Will you go with the police if they make an arrest?”
Shrugged the student: “I guess so.”

True crime podcasts have been the main refuge for amateur investigators, and have more than once helped find the culprits where official authorities have given up. It is not surprising that one day the podcast became a series, but with a fictional investigation, and more humorous than bone-chilling.
Three neighbors who meet in the elevator of the Arconia Building in Manhattan decide to investigate the mysterious death of their neighbor and make a podcast based on the search.
Only Murders in The Building Made Fans Fall in Love with All Three Main Characters…
Over the past three seasons, Arconia investigations managed to become a cozy refuge for all the lonely, a real therapy and a common hobby. The intricacies of the plot may not make you scream in surprise, but Charles, Oliver and Mabel instantly become close friends and the best partners in crime for those who like to solve complicated murders.

John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight is now a three-time Peabody Award nominee, and the only late-night show to be recognized by the prestigious organization this year
Earlier today The Peabody Awards Board of Jurors announced this year’s 27 nominees in the Arts, Children’s/Youth, Entertainment, and Interactive & Immersive categories, and Last Week Tonight’s November 2023 episode “Israel-Hamas War” made the list.
The episode is described by the Peabodys as “clear-eyed,” and recognizes Oliver’s own statement from the show that “any conversation around [the war] has to begin with empathy.”
This won’t be the first go-round for Last Week Tonight at the Peabodys. The show is 2-for-2 in Peabody nominations and wins. It won its first in 2015, and again in 2018.
If a third win feels like a stretch, it’s worth keeping in mind that Oliver and team have also won every Emmy Award the show’s ever been nominated for–sixteen in all.

John Oliver dedicated his latest episode of Last Week Tonight to UFOs and started talking about the topic, making a crazy joke about Hugh Jackman.
“Our main story tonight concerns UFOs,” Oliver said on the HBO late-night show. “They brought us great album art, classic movie moments, and, of course, Hugh Jackman. I can’t prove it yet, but I’m close.”
Oliver then said Kesha, Russell Crowe, and Jimmy Carter have claimed they’ve seen UFOs. The comedian went on to open dialogue to the history of sightings in the sky that sometimes have simple explanations.
“There clearly should be room for sober assessment of UFO sightings,” Oliver said later on in the show. “I will acknowledge that when you do that, the answers you get can sometimes end up being less fun.”
Oliver was talking about an alleged UFO sighting through a night vision recording that was thought to actually be commercial drones.

9-1-1 fans, Buck is weighing in!
Some fans of the series are pulling for Buck and Eddie to get together, and now Oliver Stark, who plays Evan “Buck” Buckley on the series, is addressing that potential in a new interview of The Zach Sang Show.
“I’m open to it. You know, there’s obviously stuff there and there’s a chemistry between us,” Oliver said.
Keep reading to find out more…
“Yeah, if it goes there then I think it would be [something I would do].”
Buck has been part of the show since Season 1, with Eddie Diaz (played by Ryan Guzman) joining in Season 2, quickly striking up a friendship with Buck.
While their bond has always been platonic to date, many fans suspect there’s more under the surface.
Buck recently came out during Season 7 after having his first same-sex kiss with Lafd helicopter pilot Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.). While Buck...

Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese have collaborated on a number of projects together as actor and director. Beginning their partnership with Gangs of New York, the duo went on to work on films such as The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street, and the recent Killers of the Flower Moon. The duo are also rumored to collaborate again on a Frank Sinatra biopic.
While the two have worked together on many projects, they have also developed projects that have never seen the light of day. One of those was apparently a biographical drama on Alexander, The Great. The two never got to make it, but the duo may have no regrets about it as Colin Farrell’s version of the film ended up almost costing the actor his career.

DC Comics has no dearth of power packed characters. Who wouldn’t be afraid of the might of Superman or even Darkseid for that matter. And the wit of Batman needs no introduction. But what if we told you that there is one character in the comic book universe who has got Bruce Wayne’s wit and talent for strategy, while he has also got Superman’s brawns. There is one, though – Deathstroke. The mighty assassin is one of DC Comics’ most dreaded. But the Arrowverse could not do the character justice.

Oscar and Golden Globe-winning actress Goldie Hawn recently celebrated her daughter Kate Hudson’s 45th birthday and shared some sweet memories. The ‘Private Benjamin’ actress took to Instagram to share a sweet throwback image alongside Hudson, reports ‘People’ magazine.
In the photo, the mother and daughter are seen embracing, clad in matching white tank tops and blue jeans.
“Happy birthday, my darling daughter @katehudson,” Hawn, 78, wrote in the caption.
“Among all the things you have already accomplished in your life — amazing mother, great dancer, Academy Award-nominated actress, and now a fantastic singer — let us not forget you were the fastest runner in high school and all of Los Angeles.”
“So keep on running sweetheart. You’re a racehorse. I love you,” Hawn concluded.
Hudson expressed her gratitude to her mom in the comment section, saying, “Haha! Mama you’re the best! Being fast is still my favourite accomplishment. Catch me if you can!

Leonardo DiCaprio turned down perhaps almost as many films as he ended up starring in. There was one feature he was seriously mulling over doing that he decided to pass on for another project.
But if DiCaprio signed on, the movie might’ve been different than the disaster that took a toll on Colin Farrell.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese wanted to do a movie on Alexander the Great Colin Farrell | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
DiCaprio confided that he and his frequent cinematic partner Scorsese had very similar minds when it came to filmmaking. So, when the opportunity came to do a project based on Alexander the Great, they were both interested. Ever since seeing his stellar performance in Philippe Lesage’s Genesis, it’s been great to see Théodore Pellerin expand his resume with films by Eliza Hittman and Ari Aster. Twisted queer-drag romance drama “Solo” has the makings of “Passages” meets “Priscilla Queen of the Desert.”
Written and directed by Sophie Dupuis, “Solo” stars Théodore Pellerin and Félix Maritaud as two drag performers whose love affair threatens both of their careers. The feature won Best Canadian Film at TIFF 2023, and is distributed by Music Box Films.
“Solo” is described as “an electrifying love story” that “quickly develops when a rising star in the Montreal drag queen scene meets his club’s newest performer.” Its logline asks: “How long can the couple sustain an artistic double act when the solo spotlight beckons?”

John Oliver took a left turn on Last Week Tonight and imagined a scenario where Stanley Tucci would be the host of the HBO late-night show.
While discussing Medicaid and everything wrong with the system, Oliver said the purpose of the show was not to make viewers feel good, otherwise it would be hosted by Stanley Tucci.
“If this show was supposed to make you feel good, it wouldn’t be hosted by me, it would be hosted by Stanley Tucci,” Oliver said as his reason for discussing hard topics affecting American citizens. “Can you imagine? You’d be watching an impossibly horny 30-minute deep dive on negronis right now.”
He continued, “That’s a better show. I wish this were that show. You wish this were that show. But guys, I’m sorry. It just isn’t.”

Editor’s Note: The following story contains details of sexual abuse of a minor that may be disturbing to some readers.
Steve “Dobby” Dawson, the founding bassist of the influential UK metal band Saxon, has been sentenced to six years in prison for child sex offenses that took place in the 1990s.
BBC News reports that the 72-year-old Dawson was found guilty of four counts of indecent assault of a child under 14. Even more disturbing, Dawson was accused of repeatedly abusing a 6-year-old girl.
Detective Constable Robert Heath, who was in charge of the case, stated, “It is clear that his evil acts have remained with her throughout her life, and I hope this sentence goes some way to allowing her to move on from these traumatic events,” adding that the victim displayed “extraordinary strength” in coming forward with the allegations.

[This story contains spoilers from season seven, episode five of 9-1-1, “You Don’t Know Me.”]
A couple of months ago, 9-1-1 co-creator and showrunner Tim Minear reached out to actor Lou Ferrigno Jr. — who had guest-starred in three flashback episodes of the second season — about reprising his role as firefighter Tommy Kinard in the seventh season of the hit Fox-turned-abc first-responder drama.
Ferrigno Jr., who says he had nothing but fond memories of working with the writer and producer years ago, was instantly intrigued to learn that Minear was in the early stages of writing a multi-episode arc that would allow viewers to check back in with Tommy in the present. That storyline, as it turns out, would involve Evan “Buck” Buckley (Oliver Stark), the ostensibly straight character who would navigate his newfound attraction to Tommy in the landmark 100th episode, which aired last Thursday.

John Oliver spotlighted Simu Liu and John Boyega on Last Week Tonight for their beginnings as stock photo models.
In the last segment of the HBO show, Oliver talked about stock photos, noting that that’s how the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Star Wars: The Force Awakens stars got their start.
“Stock photos provide an income stream, not just for photographers, but also for actors starting out,” Oliver said.
Oliver cut to a photo of Boyega in a picture posing as a student. The late-night show host then presented Liu with a series of photos “pointing at a laptop, looking at the camera during a group project and exercising in a totally normal, not at all unhinged way.” Oliver was poking fun at the way Liu was posing while seemingly exercising for the picture.

9-1-1 kicked off a big storyline this week with Buck (Oliver Stark) sharing a kiss with Tommy (Louis Ferrigno Jr.).
The kiss they shared at the end of 9-1-1 Season 7 Episode 4 was a shocker because the episode hinted at Buck having feelings for Eddie (Ryan Guzman).
Oliver has confirmed in several interviews since the episode aired that Buck will be exploring his sexuality this season.
In a newly released promo shared by ABC, we see Buck and Tommy on their first date, but it doesn’t go to plan.
Eddie somehow shows up at the same location, and the date seems destined to take an awkward turn because the firefighter will undoubtedly question why his two best friends are out without him.
Will Buck open up to Eddie about his new romance, or will he and Tommy keep it on the down low until they establish whether there...
