Queen Elizabeth attended the Royal Opera in London last night (30.10.12). The British monarch was at the city's Royal Opera House (Roh) with her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, for a gala Diamond Jubilee celebration. The performance staged was 'Extraordinary World' - a mix of opera, ballet and music - featuring Daniel Oren and Barry Wordsworth with the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House. The queen wore a white and silver lace bodice, designed by Angela Kelly, and was welcomed to the venue by chief executive Lord Hall, chairman Simon Robey, Director of Opera Kasper Holten and the Royal Ballet Director Kevin O'Hare. Her Majesty was then presented with a posy by nine-year-old Rashema Brissett, who is on...

Freddie Holker, 12 – Homage to Lucian Freud, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York
Disgusting. That's what I'm thinking; that's my gut instinct. It's reminiscent of the swimming-pool changing rooms back at school, where I'm scared to look at anything in case it offends someone. This is the Homage to Lucian Freud, one of Britain's best modern artists, who died on 20 July 2011. Seventeen paintings by Freud are displayed. I'm standing in an eerily plain room in the Metropolitan Museum of Art 3,000 miles away from where I'm comfortable.
The only painting I can easily look at is, funnily enough, Naked Man, Back View. The only one that doesn't contain full-frontal nudity offers full dorsal nudity. It shows a fat man plonked on a footstool. His sitting position pushing out roll...

The Palais des Festivals, which is where I watched all of the press screenings
Photo: Brad Brevet I will be posting a complete wrap-up of my time at the Cannes Film Festival in the next day or so as I am right now sitting in the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol on a 10 hour layover. To top it off, once I land in Seattle I have four hours to get to a screening of Cyrus followed by a screening of Sex and the City 2 one hour later. In fact, I will be operating on 14 straight days of movie screenings, which will end on Tuesday with a screening of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Including the festival it will make for 26 movies in 14 days... not too shabby eh?
As for the video promised in the headline, below is an eight minute look at my time in Cannes beginning with my departure from Seattle's Sea-Tac airport,...
