Elemental 2's chances get a hopeful response from Leah Lewis after the Pixar movie's $496 million box office comeback. The animated film explores the budding relationship between Ember Lumen (Lewis) and Wade Ripple (Mamoudou Athie), two residents of Element City who attempt to save the former's convenience store, despite pre-existing beliefs about fire and water. Along with Lewis and Athie, the voice cast of Elemental includes Ronnie Del Carmen, Shila Ommi, Catherine O'Hara, Mason Wertheimer, and Wendi McLendon-Covey. Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series spotlighting the year’s most talked-about scripts continues with Elemental, the Pixar pic directed by Peter Sohn.
Launching with a world premiere as the closing-night film at May’s Cannes Film Festival, Elemental was penned by John Hoberg & Kat Likkel and Brenda Hseuh, based on a story by the writers and Sohn about a fantastical place called Element City, where Fire-, Water-, Earth- and Air-residents live together.
The plot follows the quick-witted and fiery Ember (Leah Lewis), a new arrival to the city whose friendship with go-with-the-flow Wade (Mamoudou Athie) challenges not only her beliefs about the world they live in, but the person she wants to be.
The idea germinated from Sohn’s own experiences; like Ember, he was a second-generation immigrant whose parents moved from Korea to New York City. That starting point helped to form the film’s themes of fitting in to a new place,...

The slow-burn life of Elemental continues. The film landed the top streaming debut for a movie on Disney+ so far this year, the streaming service announced Monday. That follows Elemental‘s box office journey, which began inauspiciously with a record-worst opening for a Pixar movie, only for the film to have strong legs and ultimately earn $484 million globally.
According to Disney, Elemental had 26.4 million views — or, to put it another way, viewing time equivalent to that many complete showings of the movie — worldwide in its first five days of streaming. Like its competitor Netflix, Disney+ divides total viewing time by a title’s run time. For comparison’s sake, Disney touted last week that the live-action The Little Mermaid landed on the service with 16 million views in its first five days. The recent episode-one debut of the Star Wars series Ahsoka brought in 14 million over five days. The company did...

The Disney and Pixar film “Elemental” had a strong start on Disney+, with the film pulling in 26.4 million views in its first five days of streaming availability.
Per Disney, that makes “Elemental” the most-watched movie premiere of the year on the service and among the top 10 movie premieres they have ever had. For context, Disney defines a view as total stream time divided by runtime, just like Netflix recently started doing. The film became available on Disney+ on Sept. 13. Disney also says “Elemental” has become the most viewed animated movie premiere since Disney and Pixar’s “Turning Red” was released in March 2022, as well as the most-viewed Disney+ movie premiere of all time in Latin America, just ahead of “Turning Red.”
By comparison, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” debuted with 1.625 billion minutes viewed in its first five days of availability on Disney+, which translates to approximately 10.8 million views.

Disney and Pixar announced on Monday that their animated feature Elemental, starring Leah Lewis and Mamoudou Athie, has scored the biggest movie premiere of the year to date on Disney+, earning 26.4 million views in its first five days on the service.
The result, calculated by dividing total stream time by runtime, positions the film as one of the Top 10 in the history of the streamer, as far as premieres. The flick directed by Peter Sohn is the most viewed-animated feature to come out of Disney/Pixar since Turning Red was released last March and has also notably bested that Oscar-nominated Domee Shi pic with the biggest Latin American Disney+ movie premiere of all time.

Directed by Peter Sohn (The Good Dinosaur), Elemental is the 27th film from animation studio Pixar, whose films are so reliably emotional that they might as well come with a will-make-you-cry guarantee. True to form, Elemental sticks closely to the Pixar formula, mixing a high concept with a strong central metaphor to tell an extremely sweet love story that’s certain to make you shed a tear or two.
Many of Pixar’s films essentially ask, ‘What if such-and-such a thing had feelings and emotions?”, whether it’s toys in Toy Story or emotions themselves in Inside Out (still one of Pixar’s best). This time round, that concept applies to the elements, namely fire, water, earth and air,...

The Elemental cast features an impressive group consisting of newcomers and seasoned veterans playing characters representing the elements of nature for Pixar's 27th feature film. The animated movie tells the touching story of two young anthropomorphic elemental beings — one is fire, and the other is water — who fall in love despite the prejudices that exist between their people (and obvious practical barriers that come with being made out of fire and water). Like many of the studio's crowning achievements, Pixar's Elemental features a simple plot that is counterbalanced by the studio's amazing storytelling craft and unique visual language.
The unique plot and premise of Elemental is all supplemented by a stellar ensemble of voice talent. Though the cast of Elemental doesn't necessarily jump off the page as a roster of A-list names, many of the actors involved in the movie are experts at their craft and have lent their...

In Elemental fire, water, earth, and air co-exist in Element City, although they live relatively separate lives, with elements never intermingling. However, this all changes when Wade, an emotional water element, and Ember, a quick-tempered fire element, work together to try and save her family's shop. The pair grows closer, and as they spend more time together, unexpected feelings develop that could change the makeup of Element City forever.
Elemental is directed by Peter Sohn and produced by Denise Ream, the team behind The Good Dinosaur. It was co-written by John Hoberg, Kat Likkel, and Brenda Hsueh, with Sohn working closely with them to create the story, pulling from his own life experiences. Elemental stars Leah Lewis, Mamoudou Athie, Ronnie del Carmen, Shila Ommi, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Catherine O'Hara, Mason Wertheimer, Joe Pera, and Matt Yang King.

Elemental stars with the four elements of water, air, earth, and fire co-existing peacefully in Element City. However, they live relatively separate lives, with Ember, a hot-headed fire element, and her family running a store in Firetown. When Wade, an overly emotional water element and city inspector, is sucked through the pipes and notes a number of violations, Ember's family legacy is in danger. She and Wade work together to try and save her family's store and slowly grow closer, with feelings developing. Although it breaks a cardinal rule about elements mixing, Wade and Ember's feelings could change Element City forever as opposites attract and create something entirely new.

Elemental examines the age-old question of whether opposites attract. In Element City, air, water, earth, and fire coexist peacefully for the most part, although the elements tend not to mix. Wade, an overly emotional water element, and Ember, a quick-to-anger fire element, become an unlikely duo as they work together to save her family's shop. They slowly learn more about one another, grow closer, and eventually begin to develop feelings for each other. Although this goes against the norm, Ember and Wade's unexpected feelings could change Element City forever.
The team behind The Good Dinosaur teams up once again, with Peter Sohn directing Elemental and Denise Ream serving as his producer. Just in time for summer, Disney and Pixar are back in their element with their latest animated release! After debuting at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, the original animated picture “Elemental” blows into theaters in the U.S. on Friday, June 16.

Disney and Pixar shared a fresh look at Elemental ahead of the film's premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival tomorrow, May 27. The wonderful folks at Pixar Animation are ready to unleash their 27th feature with the imaginative "Elemental." Drawing inspiration from director Peter Sohn's youth growing up as a second-generation immigrant in New York City, the film is a celebration of cultural and ethnic diversity, wrapped in a heartwarming romantic comedy. The story is said to be inspired by films like "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner," "Moonstruck," and "Amélie," but is presented in a way that appeals to audiences of all ages.
"Elemental" is also one of Pixar's most ambitious films to date, with producer Denise Ream telling Total Film Magazine, "We knew it was going to be hard. We didn't know it was going to be as hard as it was." As all of the characters are different elements, they all move in entirely different ways. Considering the film showcases an entire city of different elemental folk interacting with one another,...

The animated movie will bow out of competition ahead of a release in theaters on June 16 in the U.S. and on June 21 in France. Elemental is the fourth feature film from Pixar Animation Studios to be presented in Cannes after Up, Inside Out and Soul, which was an official selection for the cancelled 2020 edition due to the pandemic.

Ready to visit the latest crazy world created by Pixar Animation Studio? Because you’ll do just that in the trailer for Pixar’s latest, “Elemental,” which you can watch above.
From the studio that brought toys to life, populated a world full of monsters and took you under the sea, “Elemental” explores what a vibrant metropolis would be if that metropolis was populated exclusively by anthropomorphic elements. The story follows a young fire woman named Ember (Leah Lewis) who falls in love with a water man named Wade (Mamoudou Athie). Sure, opposites attract, but when you’re made out of those materials, how does that even work?
Earlier this week, select press was shown about 20 minutes of footage from the new movie, which gave a much better sense of the characters and the larger world, and provided greater context in terms of how personal this story was to director Peter Sohn,...

It’s all elemental when Disney’s Pixar releases another classic feature.
“Elemental” is an upcoming animated ensemble comedy where characters are made out of the earth’s elements like air, fire, water, and dirt. A woman made of fire (Leah Lewis) and a man made of water (Mamoudou Athie) find out that their differences aren’t so different after all, despite not being able to touch.

"I've been trying to fill my father's shoes... but I never once asked what I wanted to do." Pixar has unveiled the full-length official trailer for their latest movie, Elemental, opening in theaters nationwide (yay!) this summer in June. This movie is set in Element City, where fire-, water-, land- and air-residents live together. The story introduces Ember, a tough, quick-witted, fiery young woman, whose friendship with a fun, sappy, go-with-the-flow guy named Wade challenges her beliefs about the world they live in. The voice cast features Leah Lewis as Ember, and Mamoudou Athie (one of my favorite actors) as Wade. From the director of The Good Dinosaur, with Pete Docter helping produce at Pixar Studios in Emeryville. Joining the voice cast are Ronnie del Carmen as Ember's soon-to-be retired dad, Bernie; Shila Ommi as Ember's love-seeking mom, Cinder; Wendi McLendon-Covey as Wade's stormy and Air-Ball-loving boss, Gale; Catherine O'Hara as Wade's welcoming mom,...
