Miley Cyrus became a superstar after playing the titular role in Disney Channel’s teen musical sitcom “Hannah Montana,” which ran from 2006 to 2011. But Cyrus wasn’t the only young actor who was considered for the lead role.
According to Aj Michalka, who comprises one half of the sibling pop duo Aly & Aj, former Disney Channel head Gary Marsh originally offered the part to her sister, Aly Michalka. Aj also claimed that the part of Lilly Truscott, Hannah’s best friend, was offered to her.
Aj shared the information in a post from the duo’s joint Twitter account, which references “Hannah Montana” casting director Lisa London, who revealed other actors considered for the lead role in a viral TikTok video.

In 2010, Emma Stone, Penn Badgley and Aly Michalka put a modern twist on the famed novel The Scarlet Letter with the movie Easy A. And while Nathaniel Hawthorne never wrote a sequel to his 1850 book, Aly exclusively tells E! News, "There are talks that there might be a sequel." And no, this isn't just a rumor. The "Potential Breakup Song" singer says, "That actually is semi real," with the small caveat that it wouldn't necessarily follow Olive (Emma) and Todd (Penn). She shares, "It would be kind of like a new retelling but you'd see some of the characters from the original come back into the story." If that doesn't come to fruition,...

It's kind of crazy that I've been doing this job so long and have never had the pleasure of chatting with Chad Michael Murray.
Hallmark's Sand Dollar Cove changed that, and jumping on the call to chat with him was quite revealing. In addition to Sand Dollar Cove, he's got a full slate of entertainment coming our way.
Please check out our full interview below, and don't forget to read our accompanying piece with his Sand Dollar Cove costar, Aly Michalka. The movie is very charming and perfect entertainment for a summer Saturday.
So how did you get involved with Sand Dollar Cove?
Oh, gosh. Let's see. I have been fortunate enough to have a pretty decent relationship with Hallmark over the last few years. I love bringing wholesome content to the air. I love bringing joy to people's faces. That's why I became an actor in the first place.

We had a chance to catch up with her to discuss the movie and chat about Aly & Aj's latest album, A Touch of the Beat.

Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about Thursday’s series finale of iZombie on the CW.
The CW’s iZombie on Thursday tied up several loose ends with a surprisingly happy bow in its finale last night, when the series created by Diane Ruggiero-White and Rob Thomas and starring Rose IcIver wrapped its five-season run.
The episode, fittingly titled “All’s Well That Ends Well,” seemed more likely early to take the gloomier path of Thomas’ recent Veronica Mars finale, when Liv (McIver) appeared to have been killed in a bombing and Major (Robert Buckley) volunteered to sacrifice himself by taking the cure on live TV to prove it worked. Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of film critics two questions and publishes the results on Monday.
This week, IndieWire published our list of the 100 Best Movies of the 2010s.
Of course, any list of 100 movies barely scratches the surface of a decade that saw the release of thousands (and thousands), and a ton of special films — especially of the contested or obscure varieties — didn’t make the cut. And, so with that in mind, we asked our panel of film critics to pick the one overlooked film of the past 10 years that they most hope people will find, rediscover, or reconsider in the future.

Blast from the past: Easy A is getting a spinoff movie! Entertainment Weekly announced the news on Thursday, confirming that Screen Gems, a Sony Pictures studio, has plans to work on the new film, which will take place at the same Ojai North High School in California as the original. The teen comedy from 2010 starred Emma Stone and catapulted her into the spotlight. It also included Penn Badgley, Amanda Bynes, Lisa Kudrow, Stanley Tucci, and Aly Michalka, but there's no word on who will be in the spinoff cast.
However, Easy A's screenwriter Bert Royal is set to write and direct the film, so it's in good hands. Stone, who played Olive Penderghast in the movie inspired by The Scarlet Letter, has since gone on to star in major motion pictures like The Favourite and La La Land. We're excited to find out who's cast in the new version almost a decade later.

Screen Gems is developing a spinoff film to “Easy A,” the 2010 comedy that helped launch Emma Stone to leading lady stardom. The studio has tapped Bert Royal, the original screenwriter on the film, to write and direct the currently untitled spinoff, an individual with knowledge told TheWrap.
Royal, who is a writer and executive producer on the Freeform series “Recovery Road,” will make his directorial debut on the film. Zanne Devine is also returning to produce the spinoff movie.
“Easy A” was an updated, teen comedy take on “The Scarlet Letter,” in which a clean-cut student gets ahead in her social standing by making up a rumor and proudly flaunting the idea that she’s sexually promiscuous, despite that being a lie. The new film will be set at the same high school and will explore many of the similar themes as the original.

Ten years can seem like a long time, but not if you’re Aly & Aj. The sisters spent the decade since their most recent album as a pop duo, 2007’s Insomniatic, establishing acting careers outside the Disney machine that helped launch them. When they independently released the aptly titled Ep Ten Years in 2017, it was easier to get back in the saddle than they expected.

After four years of watching the population of Seattle, Wash. gradually learn that there were zombies among them, as well as following a one key undead character as she worked with the police department to solve murders, “iZombie” is getting ready to sign off of the CW. The series, which premiered in 2015, has centered on Liv Moore (Rose McIver) adjusting to her life as a crime-solving, brain-eating zombie, and, in more recent seasons, get involved in trafficking people in and out of the quarantined city.
That latter storyline is one way in which the show has taken a serious real-world topic and put a unique twist on it for its heightened world. And, showrunner Rob Thomas tells Variety, that theme will continue in the fifth and final season. “We played that last year, we’re playing it this year, but now I feel like we’re playing it dialed up,...

It’s official. The CW’s comedies Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend will end after their upcoming fifth and fourth seasons, respectively. Additionally, the network revealed this season that the upcoming fifth season of comedic drama iZombie also will be its last, making for string of farewells on the CW next season. It will start with Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, which is on the fall schedule, and continue in midseason with Jane the Virgin and iZombie.
The announcement is not a surprise. Ahead of Jane the Virgin‘s fifth season renewal, star Gina Rodriguez had referred to a then-potential Season 5 as “our final season,” while Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star/co-creator Rachel Bloom tweeted after its pickup, “Just found out that #CrazyExGirlfriend has been renewed for a final season.”
