An impressive array of more than 50 Canadian recording artists have pooled their talents for a new single to promote an excellent cause.
Produced by legendary Canadian music producer Bob Ezrin, and executive produced by Randy Lennox (Loft Entertainment) and Carrie Mudd (Peacock Alley Entertainment), the anthem “What I Wouldn’t Do (North Star Calling)” weaves Serena Ryder’s inspiring message and profound lyrics from her song “What I Wouldn’t Do” with Leela Gilday’s sonically beautiful bridge from “North Star Calling”.
The single, released on March 2, kicks off Kids Help Phone‘s new initiative to help Canadian youth “feel out loud” and express their emotions in a safe and supported way, anchored by a fundraising goal of $300 million to reach every young person in Canada by 2024 by expanding access to Kids Help Phone’s e-mental health services.

Though he’s responsible for creating them, Donovan Woods says he doesn’t always agree with the characters in his songs. That holds true for the Canadian singer-songwriter’s latest release “Grew Apart,” a simmering break-up tune in which the narrator bitterly attempts to shrug off his pain by concocting his own more palatable version of the story.
“Whenever somebody says your name I don’t break, I just say/It’s for the best, it’s over now/It wasn’t anyone’s fault it didn’t work out,...

Ruston Kelly pays tribute to some of his formative influences with the new project, Dirt Emo Vol. 1, which will be available October 11th. On Friday, the Nashville singer-songwriter, who released the album Dying Star in 2018, dropped a cover of Dashboard Confessional’s breakout hit “Screaming Infidelities” that features the band’s lead singer Chris Carrabba.
Originally a jangly, heartbroken anthem when it was released in 2002, “Screaming Infidelities” takes a turn toward gothic gloom in Kelly’s rendering. Stripped entirely of percussion, this new version is driven by piano and the...

“Somebody’s Daughter” singer Tenille Townes has recorded a cover of Keith Urban’s hit “Stupid Boy” for Amazon Originals. The track is available for streaming on Amazon Music now.
“There’s an intensity and emotion in ‘Stupid Boy’ that is real and makes it a favourite of mine to sing & stand for,” Townes tweeted on Friday morning. And she brings that intensity to her recording of the song, letting her unmistakable voice conjure the emotion of a woman who was held back and mistreated by when she and the titular “boy” were together.

Donovan Woods has given his song “Truck Full of Money” an extensive overhaul, turning the cinematic track from his Juno-winning album Both Ways into an intimate acoustic ballad. This new version, premiering on Rolling Stone Country today, is the first release from The Other Way, an acoustic companion album to Both Ways that will be released May 3rd.
In its original form, “Truck Full of Money” was almost a study in contrasts — it married dramatic, sweeping production to Toronto-based Woods’ meditation on the frequently lonely, unhealthy aspects of a...

The hushed intimacy of the duo Ida Mae, a dusty road anthem by the Vegabonds and a new one from the King of Country Music make up our list of the best country songs to hear this week.
Travis Denning, “After a Few”
The singer behind the fake-i.D. anthem “David Ashley Parker From Powder Springs” tells tales of what happens after those drinks are consumed in this sultry jam. It’s slickly produced, but it works, thanks to Denning’s husky vocal and the lovelorn quality in his delivery.

A long-awaited song from the Pistol Annies, Brothers Osborne’s new single and Lucie Silvas’ glorious “Kite” are among the 10 country and Americana tracks you need to hear now.
Pistol Annies, “Got My Name Changed Back”
Miranda Lambert celebrates her independence with this countrified kiss-off. “It takes a judge to get married, it takes a judge to get divorced / Well, the last couple years I spent a lot of time in court,” she sings, balancing the Pistol Annies’ honky-tonk humor with a sly nod to her own marital changes. “Got...

Canadian singer-songwriter Donovan Woods closed out his 2018 album Both Ways with “Next Year,” a straightforward, urgent message about the myriad ways we tend to put things off until it’s too late. In the song’s new video, there’s no distraction from that message — just Woods performing straight to the camera without any smoke and mirrors.
“The idea for this video felt right. Even for someone like me, who wants to appear in a music video for about seven seconds, tops,” says Woods. “We felt like it should be...
