Rico Wade, the pioneering Atlanta-based hip-hop producer of Organized Noize and leader of the Dungeon Family, has died. He was 52 years old.
Wade’s passing was confirmed by a representative on Saturday. No cause of death has been given at this time. In a statement, his family wrote, “We are devastated by the news of the passing of our dear brother Rico Wade. The world has lost one of the most innovative architects in music, and we have lost an invaluable friend. Rico was the cornerstone of Organized Noize and the Dungeon Family, and we will forever treasure his memory and the moments we shared, creating music as a united team. Our hearts weigh heavy with sorrow, and we kindly request privacy and empathy during this challenging period. Rico’s presence will always have a special spot in our hearts, and in the music we presented to the world.”

Plot: With his job, life and family unraveling around him, a despondent Bernard dusts off a jewelry box and unintentionally releases genie Flora, who just might be able to help him. Maybe. It’s a longshot, frankly. In the process, Flora and Bernard will discover that love, and an unexpected friendship, can unleash a special holiday magic all its own.

Last week, a new radio station went on the air in Nashville with a premise that’s at once wildly radical and painfully obvious.
Instead of imagining country radio as an episode of The Bachelorette — 25 guys, one woman — set on a gated island, Wycz envisions the format as something far more flexible and receptive. The station is willing to play women: Kacey Musgraves twice in an hour, while she can’t buy airtime elsewhere. And Wycz is happy to exist in open dialog with other musical formats, cheerfully playing R&b and rap,...

Never doubt the power of the Internet. Rapper Bubba Sparxxx learned that last week, when recent photos of him started circulating, and people all over social media were exclaiming over his weight loss. "It was hilarious," Sparxxx, best known for the song "Miss New Booty" tells People. "It was kind of bizarre to me honestly, because, I had gotten up to about 290 lbs. and I lost almost pretty much all the weight about three or four years ago." Bubba Sparxxx has found his "Mrs. New Booty" and will be tying the knot with former Miss Iowa 2010 Katie Connors. The couple started dating 2 years ago after meeting through mutual friends. They've rented out Andrew Jackson's Hermitage in Nashville for the big day ... May 21st. "Save the dates" have been sent out to more than 400 friends and relatives. There have been many variations of the “luxury speaker” in the years since Apple unleashed its stylish iPhone range on the world. Many have tried, and many have failed to live up to the fashion-led design of Apple’s products. Don’t get me wrong, there have been some great luxury speakers – a while ago we reviewed a Libratone speaker that was covered in cashmere which both looked and sounded fantastic. But that is the exception rather than the rule.
However now comes the Stelle Audio Pillar. Billed as a speaker for those who refuse to compromise style, the Stelle Pillar boasts, and I quote, “high-quality sound and fashion, a 3” subwoofer connecting to any Bluetooth enabled device in a 50ft range, with 15 hours of continuous play”.
That’s the PR spiel. But what’s the truth?
Well, truth be told the press release for the Stelle Audio Pillar isn’t far wrong.

It’s been a while since I’ve reviewed a Libratone speaker – but when you have something as superb as the Libratone Live there’s not really any need to upgrade is there? Well that is until now.
Copenhagen-based audio company Libratone have taken the concept of the Airplay speaker to the next level with the Libratone Zipp. This the first and only device to deliver the performance and convenience of AirPlay without the need for a router and complicated setup, thanks to Libratone’s all-new PlayDirect technology which works in conjunction with AirPlay technology, creating a direct Wi-Fi connection between the speaker and any compatible device. Which means, like other products in the Libratone family I’ve road-tested, the Libratone Zipp works seamlessly with iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch and Mac.

The third track on one of my favorite rock records of the last decade, Okkervil River’s The Stage Names, is called “A Hand to Take Hold of the Scene.” Without context, its lyric is a bit of a tough nut to crack. Will Sheff sings about events unfolding on a TV screen in the first verse, recaps a dream in the second, and seems to outline the narrator’s innermost wishes in the third. What’s not immediately apparent is that the first verse outlines scenes from two completely different TV shows – scenes that happened to be scored by Okkervil River songs. The first half of the verse refers to “It Ends With a Fall” (from Down the River of Golden Dreams) and its use on the reality series Breaking Bonaduce. (I don’t have that clip handy.) The second half, and probably the more illustrative of the two in any case,...

The greatest mashup artists don’t just find two songs with similar-sounding titles, smoosh, them together, and call it a day – they make ingenious connections between two or more tunes that seem as though they’d have nothing in common, combining them in a way that’s both totally surprising and perfectly coherent.
Take, for example, pomDeterrific’s “Call Me a Hole,” a crazy/good/crazy good mashup of Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” and Nin’s “Head Like a Hole.” There may be only one thing on which both fresh-faced teens and Nin fans can agree: This song is awesome.

You've probably seen your last glimpse of the words Justin Timberlake on an album cover, folks. From here on out it's Jt, plain and simple. The art for The 20/20 Experience, Timberlake's first release since 2006's FutureSex/LoveSounds, features the man on his suit and (bow)tie shit, meticulously stubbled, getting his eyes checked. There's also a track list which doesn't mention Jay-z's appearance on "Suit & Tie," which has us wondering if other featured artists are being kept secret (the return of Bubba Sparxxx?). But hey, it's handwritten, or at least looks like it, so that's acceptable. Try not to balk at the seemingly brief ten-song length — FutureSex was twelve tracks and clocked in at 66 minutes. Similar deal with Justified. Plus, iTunes bonus tracks, etc. Now, if someone could fashion another timer counting down till the day we get to hear "Spaceship Coupe" — March 19 at the latest —...

Bubba Sparxxx doesn't just owe $30,000 in back taxes to the State of Georgia, he owes hundreds of thousands to the Federal Government -- but the rapper tells TMZ, he's finally changing his deadbeat taxpayer ways.TMZ broke the story -- the State of Georgia is now garnishing Bubba's wages to cover his $29,266 debt to the state ... but Bubba tells us, that's just the tip of the iceberg ... his debt to the IRS is roughly ten times that amount.

TMZ has learned.According to documents filed in Georgia, the former Timbaland protege -- whose biggest song, "Ugly," came out in 2001 -- owes $29,266.88 in back taxes from the year 2006. A week after Lana Del Rey's infamous Saturday Night Live performance (a fairly disastrous showing that jumpstarted the second national wave of Ldr backlash), SNL attempted to address the controversy with a Weekend Update sketch. Kristen Wiig swanned out onstage dressed as Del Rey and offered the following fake apology: "The music stage on SNL is hallowed ground, and I failed to reach the high bars set by past guests like Bubba Sparxxx, The Baha Men, and Shaggy." The bit was funny (sorry, Baha Men), and not too harsh on Lana, who had surely been attacked enough that week. But the joke was built on a premise that hasn't been true for a while, or at least for the better half of this season, with acts like Del Rey, Sleigh Bells, Karmin, and Gotye taking the main stage. SNL has developed an unexpectedly trendy, Internet-aware musical taste. You could...

Lana Del Rey just can't seem to catch a break.
First the singer was viciously maligned for her lackluster performance on 'SNL.' Then a Letterman performance that was average at worst was passed over in a flurry of parodies and reports that the former gig was so poor that her management had canceled her tour.
The catch? Del Rey (real name Lizzy Grant, in case that hadn't been covered enough as well) didn't even have a tour scheduled.
From indie blogs to more mainstream news sources, the predominant Del Rey narrative is that of impending catastrophe. It's not a surprising one, given the hype that surrounded her first few songs and burgeoning career, but it does seem to be snowballing rapidly.
The false reports seem to have originated in a Page Six post which cited only anonymous sources who somewhat sneeringly said Del Rey would be sequestered in a...

While we were preoccupied with early Super Bowl festivities, "Saturday Night Live" took the opportunity of its first show following the Lana Del Rey debacle to address the controversy.
Kristen Wiig suited up to play Del Rey, sporting long flowy locks and a lace dress, on a "Weekend Update" segment with Seth Meyers. The pair mostly mocked the level of vitriol directed at Del Rey, declaring it overkill, saying, "The music stage on 'Saturday Night Live' is hallowed ground, and I failed to reach the high bar set by past guests like Bubba Sparxxx, The Baha Men and Shaggy."
Check it out below:
"SNL" boiled down the ridiculous amount of attention paid to Del Rey's lackluster showing thusly: "Based on the public's response, I must have clubbed a baby seal while singing the Taliban national anthem."
Boom.

Saturday Night Live this weekend issued its response to those who derided recent musical guest Lana Del Rey as, amongst other things, the all-time “worst” performer in the 37-year-old sketch show’s history. But did SNL come off as overly defensive in doing so?

In it's first post-Lana Del Rey episode, "Saturday Night Live" took the opportunity to defend the singer against the criticism her performance on the show three weeks ago received.
Kristen Wiig as Del Rey stopped by "Weekend Update" to chat with Seth Meyers about the backlash, and credited her detractors with being absolutely right. "Based on the public's response, I must have clubbed a baby seal while singing the Taliban national anthem."
She went on to say that critics were right to take her to task for changing her name and for not being seasoned enough to perform on the show: "The music stage on 'Saturday Night Live' is hallowed ground, and I failed to reach the high bar set by past guests like Bubba Sparxxx, The Baha Men and Shaggy."

Ok, "American Idol." Time to pack it up. No need to bother going through the rest of season 10. As far as "Idol" producers are concerned, we have met our next champion and her name is Lauren Alaina.
The first 52 minutes of Thursday night's (January 27) Nashville audition episode — filled with quarreling ex-lovers, former Donald Trump trophy teens and far too many "delusional" people who were obviously in on the joke — was like that one time in '97 when I went to see Blur and they had their friend's terrible band open for them so that they looked amazing by comparison.
Like Blur, there was no need for the weighted build up to the headliner. Truth is, Lauren Alaina's voice was the first one this season to make me cock my head sideways (a la Little Forrest Gump) and make my arm hairs tingle. She demonstrated control and conveyed emotion like a...

In the decade or so since Eminem first appeared on the scene with his debut album The Slim Shady LP, he has changed the music game in more ways than one. His breakthrough 2000 release The Marshall Mathers LP paved the way for edgier hip-hop to live at the top of the Billboard album chart. He bridged the gap between the worlds of mainstream pop (he was a staple on "Total Request Live" with the likes of Britney Spears and 98 Degrees), pure hip-hop (he was a well-respected freestylist who associated with Dr. Dre) and the more aggro side of the rock world (his songs were often played on modern rock radio and would often tour with guitar bands). In addition to being the best-selling artist of the past decade, Eminem also changed things culturally (in many ways for the better).

'Love Left to Lose' brotherly trio grew up on the road with preacher parents.
By Gil Kaufman
Sons of Sylvia's Ashley Clark performs on "American Idol" Wednesday
Photo: Fox
They've been jamming together their whole lives, though they never really heard secular music until they left home. They grew up on the road with their itinerant preacher parents, playing worship tunes before forming a brotherly trio and switching from the sacred to the (slightly more) profane.
