I’ve been a huge fan of Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of the War of the Worlds ever since one of my junior school teachers decided to play it to us over four lessons way back in 1978, encouraging us to discuss it among the class and to create our own words and pictures as a result. I’d never heard anything quite like it, and frankly, there’s never really been anything quite like it since, in terms of a completely immersive musical experience that was groundbreaking at the time and still sounds as fresh and vital today as it did 38 years ago.
When Wayne finally achieved his dream of bringing his magnum opus to life on the stage in 2006, I was there at the inaugural performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall to witness him conducting a live band and orchestra along with a breathtaking visual show that featured video walls,...

Heidi Range has defended her former Dancing on Ice partner Sylvain Longchambon after his controversial romantic life was revisited in last weekend's launch show.
Longchambon and his new celebrity partner Jorgie Porter became the first couple to leave the ITV show's all-stars series on Sunday (January 5). Their brief stint featured many references to the French pro leaving Porter's Hollyoaks co-star Jennifer Metcalfe for Coronation Street's Samia Ghadie, who he competed with last year.
Speaking to Digital Spy at the Happy Days musical launch today, Range - who was initially partnered with Longchambon for the 2012 series until he was forced out by injury - argued that the skater's private life is "not... anyone else's business".
"I think people should just stay out of his private life and watch him for the skater that he is," she said. "It's not really anyone else's business.
"He's a brilliant skater and so is Jorgie.

Gregg Wallace may look like he needs an extra helping of custard with his puddings these days, but other than the greengrocer-turned-tv-shouter's new slimline physique, very little has changed in the world of Celebrity MasterChef.
Gregg and John still drop innuendoes like Carry On films never went out of fashion ("I love the flavour of your dumplings Heidi!" *raised eyebrow, Harry Hill sideways look to camera*) and there is serious tension over whether a chicken is moist enough or if a spider crab has been chopped up correctly. Business as usual then.
Whether it's Celebrity, Professional or the vintage standard, non-famous, non-pro MasterChef, it barely makes a difference. Not only do they blur into one in the schedules, not only do the celebs barely register on the average Joe's showbiz radar, they're also so ridiculously similar in format and style that you'd be forgiven for not knowing which version of...

London, June 26: Singer Heidi Range says no man asks her out for a date and she also does not have the courage to ask men out.
"I never get asked out. I wouldn't ask a fella out either - that's probably why I have only been on one date since I was 20," femalefirst.co.uk quoted her as saying.
The 29-year-old was in a eight-year-old relationship with TV and radio presenter Dave Berry but called it quits in December 2011.
Now she does not waste time over.

The Sugababes star said that Dancing On Ice has given her a "new lease of life" following her painful split from Dave Berry, and that she is currently considering different career avenues. The singer announced in December last year that she'd ended her eight-year relationship with the Capital FM DJ, with both insisting the split was amicable. "The end of last year was awful. Splitting with Dave was horrible and I'm not over it. We're still great friends and I saw him last week, but it's hard," Range told the Sunday Mirror. "Dancing On Ice has got me through it. It's given me a new lease of life. My life's (more)...

Dancing on Ice contestant Matthew Wolfenden has been left "shook up" after injuring his professional partner Nina Ulanova in training. The Emmerdale actor revealed on Twitter that he accidentally dropped his Doi colleague while rehearsing a lift on Thursday (January 19). "Had a shocker of a training session today!" he wrote. "Dropped @NinkaUlanova out of a big lift that's in our new routine, she's just a bit winded... but it shook me up a lot, just shows how dangerous this ice skating can be! She's a little hard nut though! X x" When his Doi rival Heidi Range asked if the pair were hurt in the slip-up, Wolfenden replied: (more)...

Dancing on Ice contestant Heidi Range has admitted that she was "terrified" of competing on the show. The Sugababes singer revealed that although she is confident about stepping into the rink now, she was initially convinced that her "clumsy" side would put her at risk. "[Skating is] one of my favourite things to do at Christmas, but normally I have a mulled wine and I'm wrapped up," she told The Mirror. "When I first started, I never thought I'd be skating backwards and I was terrified of the lifts. "The thing is, I'm clumsy and I'm a scaredy cat. As soon as I started I thought, 'Why has a scaredy cat signed up to do an ice skating show where they throw you here, there and everywhere?' "But with every new lift, I'm scared at first, and then once you've got the move, you're (more)...

Rosemary Conley has reportedly asked Dancing on Ice bosses to give her sexy outfits. The diet and fitness guru, 65, apparently wants to rival the likes of Jennifer Ellison and Heidi Range and has asked the wardrobe department for costumes that show off her figure. "Rosemary is proud of her figure and doesn't want to hide it. She loves showing off what hard work and a good diet can do for you. What's the point of having it if you're not flaunting (more)...

'Dancing On Ice' contestants think show bosses are giving Jennifer Ellison preferential treatment. A number of stars competing in the skating contest are said to be angry after the performance schedule - which saw the celebrities split into two groups to perform either last week or this weekend - was changed to give her another week of rehearsals following an injury to her partner Dan Whiston. However, Heidi Range had asked for an extra week after an injury to professional skater Sylvain Longchambon meant she had to be-re-partnered with Andre Lipanov but the request was turned down. A source told the Daily Mirror...

Kerry Katona has claimed that Russell Brand once said that he would "give [her] one". Writing in her Ok magazine column, the twice-divorced reality TV star expressed shock at a number of celebrity couples who split up over the Christmas period. Commenting on the split between Katy Perry and her husband of 14 months, Katona said of the comedian: "He once said he'd 'give me one'. He's proper hot-blooded stuff, but it's sad when any marriage ends." Katona also wrote about the split between Sugababe Heidi Range and DJ Dave Berry, admitting that she was "most surprised" to see their relationship end. "Theirs was such a long (more)...

Andy Akinwolere has become the first celebrity to leave this year's series of Dancing on Ice. The ex-Blue Peter host was eliminated by the panel after falling into the skate-off with Sugababes star Heidi Range when judges' scores and public votes were combined. Andy Whyment, Charlene Tilton, Jorgie Porter, Chemmy Alcott and Mark Rhodes were earlier granted spots in the the next stage of the competition. In the vote, Louie Spence backed the "more refined and polished" performance given by Range, but Katarina Witt saved Akinwolere after being impressed with how he managed his challenging routine. Addressing Range, she said: "Your second performance was more steady and better, but Andy as a celebrity and a non-skater it's more difficult to cover a (more)...

Andy Akinwolere was the first person to leave 'Dancing on Ice' last night (08.01.12). The former 'Blue Peter' presenter was "gutted" after he and professional partner Maria Filipov were voted off the show after competing in a skate-off against Sugababes singer Heidi Range and her partner Lipanov. Dallas icon Charlene Tilton was inspired to take up a place on British TV talent show Dancing On Ice following the death of her fiance two years ago.
The actress will compete against stars including former child actor Corey Feldman and Sugababes singer Heidi Range in the ice skating series when it launches this weekend.
Tilton, who is reprising her role as Lucy Ewing in the upcoming new Dallas season, opted to take up the challenge because she wants to grasp every opportunity since losing her partner, cinematographer Cheddy D. Hart, to a lung condition in 2009.
She tells Britain's The Sun, "I decided to do it because my fiance passed away at Christmas two years ago. It was unexpected and was right in front of me. It really made me realise we are not guaranteed our next breath, our next heartbeat - only God knows.
"I thought, 'I'm going to take every opportunity life brings.' I want to live life to the full."...
