Independent filmmaker Patrick Rea has let Bloody Disgusting know this week that post-production is nearing completion for his next movie, a found footage-style LGBTQ vampire feature titled The Night Is Young.
While you wait for more, check out several first look images below.
The film tells the story of Nora (Sarah McGuire), an influencer, who along with her brother Jake (Jake Jackson) are filming her failed dates for a video blog. Through a turn of events, she ends up on a date with Emilia (Valeri Bates), a female vampire.
Soon they find themselves in the crosshairs of a group of murderous vampire hunters.
Rea tells us, “I think we’ve made a fun and original found-footage feature that we hope pleases fans of the sub-genre. We are planning for a festival premiere possibly in the late summer.”

From award-winning writer/director Patrick Rea (I Am LIsa), They Wait In The Dark stars Sarah McGuire (The Stylist) as Amy, a mum fleeing with her son from her abusive partner Judith, encountering something even more terrifying when she seeks refuge in the old farmhouse she grew up in.
They Wait In The Dark features a superb central performances from McGuire, showing unexpected mettle as her situation spirals into hopelessness, and Laurie Catherine Winkel (Father of the Bride) is outstanding as the knife-toting, not to be messed with Judith, who, as Eye for Film says, “strides through this film like one of the great screen villains”.
As with his other genre films I Am Lisa and Enclosure, Rea is proving to be an accomplished horror stylist, eliciting terrific performances from his cast, and wringing maximum suspense from a screenplay that builds up a steady drip of dread, as the characters are plunged deeper into darkness.

They Wait in the Dark is a horror film directed by Patrick Rea that has been woven in a manner to send chills down our spines. The plot of They Wait in the Dark revolves around Amy and her adopted son, Adrian, who are on the run from someone. When Amy finally lands at her father’s old house, she and Adrian have ghastly encounters. We are yet to see if they both manage to survive the dreadful situation! A lot of questions arise about the real identity of Adrian and the history of Amy while watching the film, and they are all to be answered, which will change our perceptions about the characters. There is nothing more dangerous than a woman whose child has been snatched away from her. We’ve seen similar horror concepts in films like Mama, Goodnight Mommy, Mommie Dearest, and others. Let’s find out...

They Wait in the Dark opens with a young girl staring at her mother’s corpse laying on her bed, a bloody wound where her throat used to be. The image is filtered as if a dream or a hallucination. And indeed it is a dream, one that Amy wakes up from in the corner of a convenience store, her adopted son Adrian (Patrick McGee) asleep on the floor next to her.
They’re on the run, not from the law but from Judith, Amy’sviolently abusive ex. How violent is she? When w a truck driver directs a few raunchy comments her way she takes a knife to him rather than just kicking him in the nuts. Amy still bears a scar from that same knife. Now, running out of money and options...

If you haven’t been there, it can be difficult to imagine what life is like without a home. There are 2.5 million homeless children in the US, most of them accompanied by parents who are desperately trying to make life as normal as possible for them under the circumstances. Director Patrick Rea thrusts us into that world at the start of this film as Amy (Sarah McGuire) gently explains to eight-year-old Patrick (Patrick McGee), that they have to move somewhere else now, helping him up off the concrete where they have been sleeping. He’s accommodating in the manner of children who have recognised that there’s a real problem behind adults’ failure to give them what they want, but protests that he’s hungry. Later, in a café, Amy has to talk him out of ordering everything on the menu, getting by on black coffee herself.
Fortunately, the two of them do have.

Sarah McGuire and Patrick McGee in They Wait In The Dark
One of the hidden gems at this year’s Frightfest, Patrick Rea’s claustrophobic thriller They Wait In The Dark is a small budget film which punches well above its weight. It follows troubled mother Amy (Sarah McGuire) as she takes her young son Adrian (Patrick McGee) across the country to the now-abandoned house where she grew up, trying to hide him from her violent partner Judith (Laurie Catherine Winkel). There are other things contributing to Sarah’s disturbed state of mind, however, and the house itself might represent the biggest danger of all. After seeing it I dropped Patrick a line and arranged to chat, beginning by asking him how he managed to create a film which looks so polished and impressive with really limited resources.

Getting stuck in an elevator is scary enough, but doing so with a bunch of senior citizens? You can be sure filmmaker Patrick Rea piles on the spooky - plus a little silly - in this teaser for his "It's Hell Getting Old" segment of the Hellevator Man anthology.
Kansas City-based Rea's short stars Kip Niven (Jayhawkers, New Year’s Evil), Joicie Appell (Nailbiter), Victor Raider-Wexler (Minority Report), and Nancy Marcy. It was executive produced by Jennifer Blanc-Biehn, Michael Biehn, and Lony Ruhmann.
The script, written by Rea, deals with four elderly people trapped in an elevator on their way to their 50th Class Reunion, and one of them may have forgotten to take some important medication.
The film was shot in Kansas City, Missouri, and the director of photography was Hanuman Brown-Eagle.
Other segments include Vincent J. Guastini's “The Future Executive,” which centers around Devi (Sushi Girl’s...

Bbp has also announced that Scott Schirmer (Found) will be doing a segment entitled "Tear," and WWE Hall of Famer, New York Times best seller, and successful comedian Mick Foley, aka Mankind (pictured above right), is coming on board as the "Hellevator Man" and storyteller himself.

It was back in October 2012 when we first heard about The Hourglass Figure, but now that it's wrapping up a successful festival run, the short's director, Patrick Rea, has given us the okay to share the whole film with Dread Central's readers.
The Hourglass Figure, from SenoReality Pictures, premiered at last year's Shriekfest and is next heading to the Macabre Faire Film Festival as part of Eternal Con, running June 14-15 in Garden City, NY.
It was written by Michelle Davidson and Amber Rapp and stars Davidson and Brian Paulette.
The short is about a mother who’s overwhelmed with housework and raising children. She finds an hourglass in her attic that gives her an extra hour in her day, but it comes with dangerous consequences.
Knowing Rea as well as we do, we're sure he's got at least a dozen irons in the fire and several more projects heading...
