Ülkü Sönmez was born in 1993 in Çanakkale. After Fine Arts High School Painting Department, he continued his university education in Graphic Design Department and simultaneously studied Radio-Television.
He continued his postgraduate education in Cinema-Television and his PhD in Graphic Design. He has worked in the media sector and national television channels since his university days.
He shot his first documentary film in 2019 and won awards from dozens of international festivals with the films he shot afterwards.
In addition to directing, he takes an active role in many fields from cinematography to editing in film projects.
He still continues his film studies and academic career.
