Thirteen years after his last screenplay credit, writer David Loughery, who wrote blockbuster 90s action films like Passenger 57 and The Three Musketeers, returned to movies with Lakeview Terrace in 2008, and since then he seems to have specialised in films that feature characters with ulterior motives, who aren’t who they think you are; and with Obsessed he almost single-handedly looked to revive the low-budget thriller genre that was so prevalent during the era he last penned scripts for Hollywood. That determination continued with his scripts for films like Penthouse North and The Intruder; in 2020 he spiced things ups throwing in some eroticism with the script for Fatale and now comes Shattered, which takes the genre to its Basic Instinct-style roots. Vincent Ngo, top screenwriter and Hollywood script doctor, has set up comedy series “Early Risers” in his native Vietnam. Talent behemoth, Creative Artists Agency (CAA) represents the production company Early Risers Media Group and is handling licensing of the series’ distribution rights.
The show, about the lives of American and European expats living and working in Saigon, is set to begin filming under the direction of Zach Merck at the end of this month.
After a prolonged period of Covid restrictions, “Early Risers” is believed to be the first international television production in Vietnam in over two years. Local production is being run by Ace 1 Pictures.
“Vincent has created a series that’s incredibly smart, funny and daring,” said executive producer Peter Toumasis. “It’s a contemporary comedy set against Saigon’s rarely seen expat community, which is full of lovable first-world rejects who had somehow fallen from grace and...

Try to deal with this. Bet you can’t. “I want the dog with a cat on top of its head!” You Can’T Handle The Dog With A Cat On Top Of Its Head! You are not going to be able to manage with your brain the consequences of a cat looking like one of those hats with the ear flaps, and, furthermore, you will have enormous difficulty with grappling with that cat being on top of a dog’s head. Error 3194: cathatondog cannot execute. Oh, to be that fan in the background. If only! “I’m a big fan.” – That Fan (not to be confused with Dat Phan) Thanks, Buzzfeed.

"Last Comic Standing" crowned its seventh winner Monday night (Aug. 9), with Felipe Esparza taking home the title and a $250,000 prize.
Esparza beat out Tommy Johnagin for the title in NBC's two-hour season finale. Roy Wood Jr. came in third place.
Esparza had a relatively easy road to the finals -- he only really had to sweat it out two weeks ago, when he and Rachel Feinstein were the last two left. He got the pass to the next round, though, and on Monday night viewers voted him the best of this season's crop. He joins past winners Iliza Shlesinger -- who also performed Monday -- Jon Reep, Josh Blue, Alonzo Bodden, John Heffron and Dat Phan.
He'll also get an NBC talent deal in addition to his quarter million bucks.
Here's Esparza's set from last week's episode:
