Educator and award-winning novelist and essayist Carolyn See was one of the leading literary lights of Southern California. She taught creative writing at UCLA and Loyola Marymount College in Los Angeles, and reviewed books for a number of newspapers, particularly the Washington Post. She was best known for her novel "Golden Days" (1986) and her 1995 memoir "Dreaming, Hard Luck, and Good Times in America.".
