When we last left Sheryl Crow, five years ago, she’d essentially retired from making albums. With its all-star cast, from Willie Nelson and Neil Young through St. Vincent and Jason Isbell, her 2019 LP Threads truly felt like a retirement party attended by all her musician pals; all that was missing was a gold watch. But like many before her, Crow couldn’t cure herself of the music-making bug, and out of record retirement she’s come with Evolution.

Sheryl Crow’s new LP Evolution arrives March 29, and she’s just shared a cover of Peter Gabriel’s 1992 classic “Digging in the Dirt,” which will appear on the deluxe edition. She’s joined on the recording by Gabriel himself.
“Peter’s song is the one that started me on this whole process of making my new album,” Crow says in a statement. “It was the first song I brought to [album producer] Mike Elizondo. The idea of self-examination to understand our wounds and flaws and how they affect our daily lives really resonated with me,...

Sheryl Crow has tried everything: She’s read Eckhart Tolle and Deepak Chopra, consulted with Jesus and Buddha, and even taken mushrooms. Yet, as she sings on her new single, “Do It Again,” she keeps making the same mistakes. At least she sounds serene as she lists here near revelations (and confesses, “Yeah, I’ll probably fuck it up again”) on the four-minute, bluesy pop-rock song off her upcoming Evolution album. Mike Elizondo (Dr. Dre, Keith Urban) produced the LP, which comes out on March 29.

Sheryl Crow is back with “Evolution,” a new single from her upcoming album of the same name. Stream it below.
“Evolution” follows “Alarm Clock,” the album’s first single. Produced by the versatile Mike Elizondo, Evolution serves as Crow’s first album since 2019’s Threads. She previously alluded to Threads being her final album, making the announcement of Evolution last year all the more surprising.
“I started sending just a couple of demos to Mike, but the songs just kept flowing out of me and it was pretty obvious this was going to be an album,” she said in a previous statement. “This music and these lyrics came from sitting in the quiet and writing from a deep soul place. I said I’d never make another record, thought there was no point to it. But this music comes from my soul. And I hope whoever hears this record can feel that.

Sheryl Crow has released a new single, “Evolution.” The song is the title track off the musician’s forthcoming 11th studio LP, out March 29 via The Valory Music Group, and grapples with the future impact of artificial intelligence on humanity and the planet.

When Tj Osborne announced to the world that he was gay in February 2021, it was both the beginning and the end of a journey. Coming out was a decision years in the making, a historic moment for country music that allowed him to finally go public with a part of himself he’d always felt obligated to keep hidden. It also opened the door to creating Brothers Osborne, the duo’s most honest and heartfelt album to date.

Brothers Osborne live it up every way they can in “Sun Ain’t Even Gone Down Yet,” a bright and boisterous track from their upcoming self-titled album, out September 15.
On the tune, singer Tj Osborne paints a hard-partying picture of drinking hard and living fast over a funky-tonk backdrop of guitars and thwapping drums. Then he and his guitarist brother John join their voices to finish the tableau: “If a cold libation’s any indication, we’re gonna have a hell of a night,” they sing. “The day’s about...

“Goodbye’s Kickin’ In” is the groovier, funkier side of Brothers Osborne, featuring an insistent bass pulse, a four-on-the-floor beat, and some guitar work from John Osborne that’s got shades of Lindsey Buckingham. “Heard that song a hundred times/Ninety-nine I didn’t mind/This time it just set me off,” Tj Osborne sings,...

Catherine Zeta-Jones could edge ever closer to becoming a member of the exclusive Egot club with her guest role in Netflix’s hit comedy series “Wednesday.” So far, only 18 people have achieved the feat of winning an Egot, which means winning the top prize in the four major entertainment fields of TV (Emmy), music (Grammy), film (Oscar), and theater (Tony).
Zeta-Jones is currently halfway there. She won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for “Chicago” in 2003 and then won a Tony Award in 2010 for Best Actress in a Musical for “A Little Night Music.” She has never been up for a Grammy herself, although “Chicago” did win the Grammy for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media. Joy Oladokun recently started re-watching Nashville, the soapy TV series centered on country music dreams and drama that helped usher in a wave of big change in the Tennessee capital. She had been thinking about her own place in Nashville — mainly, if she should stay as the state becomes increasingly hostile to marginalized people — and feeling depressed about the way the town’s music industry fosters Olympic levels of jealousy for anyone who catches a break.

Joe Jonas paid tribute to one of his fellow early-aughts Disney Channel legends, Hilary Duff, with Dnce sharing a cover of the actress/singer’s 2004 hit, “Come Clean.”
The performance was about as unplugged as you can get, with guitarist JinJoo Lee strumming an acoustic guitar and drummer Jack Lawless using jazz brushes to keep an incredibly inventive beat on a tissue box. Meanwhile, Jonas uses his phone as a makeshift microphone, leaping into his falsetto to hit all the classic high notes on the “Come Clean” chorus.

“Nightmare,” the band’s previous album, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and has sold 765,000 copies to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Like that album, “Hail to the King” will be produced by Mike Elizondo.
Their previous album was released just under five months after The Rev passed away. Mike Portnoy, formerly of Dream Theater, filled in the position to record and toured with the band. Two songs, including the emotionally charged “Fiction” which features The Rev on vocals and piano, and “Save Me”, were dedicated to their fallen bandmate.

Nashville, Tenn. — Gary Clark Jr. had to learn how to trust someone else to record his major label debut.
When noted producer Mike Elizondo signed on to help with "Blak and Blu," Clark was more than a little leery.
"I'm very sensitive," Clark said, chuckling as he recounted the story in a phone interview. "I like to hold onto what I do, like it's mine and this is the way it is. So I was a bit worried going in, you know? Having not known him, what is this cat gonna do to my songs? They're good as is. But I let it go: This is great, I'm getting to work with this amazing musician, great producer and a cool guy, so get over yourself and just make an album."

Kimbra has already topped the charts as Gotye's former love on his smash hit "Somebody That I Used To Know." This week, the New Zealand-born songstress will finally release her genre-defying Vows in the U.S.
The album, which incorporates dance, pop and alternative, will be released on May 22. And despite the fact that Kimbra's "lived for these songs for nearly five years," she found a way to renew her Vows by featuring five new songs on the Stateside release.
"It kind of feels like it's gone through a bit of an evolution," she told MTV News. "For that reason, I feel refreshed going out to promote it. It still feels new."

Now it seems like Justin Timberlake is just messing with us. After endlessly deflecting questions about when, or if, he will return to making records, Timberlake dipped another toe into the music pool recently when he directed and made a cameo in the video for "Hoodies On, Hats Low" for his pals FreeSol, who are signed to Jt's Tennman record label.
Justin tweeted a link to the video on Wednesday, telling his 5.6 million followers, "new music ... if you like it pass it along." In addition to paying homage to Jt's hometown of Memphis, Tennessee, by showing a number of local landmarks in the town, which also gave birth to the group fronted by the rapper known as Free, the clip marks yet another feather in the...

When Mastodon drummer Brann Dailor told me earlier this year that the band was juggling who they wanted to produce their fifth full-length, I'll admit that I never thought they'd land on Mike Elizondo. It's not so much that I thought Elizondo incapable -- he's shocked with his propensity for variety, working with Eminem to Avenged Sevenfold to Fiona Apple. I thought of Dillinger collaborator Steve Evetts, or someone purely from the Hydra Head camp. Elizondo's been a good fit so far, if new track "Black Tongue" is any testament. The track is the first to arrive in full from "The...

Mastodon's Brent Hinds may look like a biker from Hell — facial tattoos are slightly alarming — but the burly singer/guitarist is actually known for being quite the jokester (for example, here is discussing the finer points of Somali pirates and Michael Phelps with MTV back in 2009). Appropriately, he now stars in a new commercial for Elmyr, a local restaurant and cantina in his group’s hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. And while we can't vouch for the quality of Elmyr's food ... their commercials are totally top notch.
The whole thing opens with Hinds fishing at a peaceful pond as he turns to the camera and complains about rumbling in his stomach. As he kneels down to pet his dog, he reveals a doctor has diagnosed him with Ohp: overwhelming hunger pains. Hinds seemingly concerned, faces the camera and asks, "How do I know what food is right for me?...

There are still three-and-a-half musically fruitful months left in 2010, but there is already a whole lot of excitement over a handful of releases set to appear in 2011. Next year, we'll probably hear new music from Lady Gaga and Ke$ha (both of whom talked about new albums recently) as well as the long-awaited Blink-182 reunion album, the return of U2 and a load of other high-profile releases. For a certain segment of the population, there is one piece of album news that is especially exciting: According to drummer and producer Charley Drayton, the spring of 2011 will welcome a brand new album by Fiona Apple.
"Hate to brag but I heard a couple new Fiona Apple tracks today," singer Michelle Branch wrote on Twitter last week. "Amazing."
The news of new Apple music is thrilling, especially considering how long it has been since we last heard from the 33-year-old songwriter. Her last release,...

You may have noticed we've cut back a bit on our coverage of the music scene, but when the news crossed our desk that the new Avenged Sevenfold video for the band's latest single, "Nightmare", is truly horror-themed, we thought we'd pass it along to you guys. Dig it!
Avenged Sevenfold are releasing their fifth studio album, Nightmare, on July 27th, and the video for the title track shows lead singer M. Shadows being strapped down to a gurney and rushed through the halls of a mental asylum where, room by room, he encounters different "nightmares". Now, I don't know about you guys, but one of my biggest fears is being trapped in the loony bin so, for this Woman, it's damned effective!
Sadly, while the members of Avenged Sevenfold were well into working on Nightmare, their lives changed forever. Jimmy Sullivan, aka the Rev, had died. They hadn’t just lost their drummer.

The anticipation over the release of new music from Avenged Sevenfold has been palpable and feverish, partially because the group has an extremely devoted following, partially because they have been a band on the brink of a major breakthrough for a few years and partially because people were curious to see how they would handle the death of their drummer Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan late last year. This week, the band unveiled the clip for their new single "Nightmare," which is the first track from their upcoming album of the same name (which hits stores next week).
Both as a song and as a video, "Nightmare" delivers. The track settles into a deeper metal groove than some of their past work, with jack-hammering guitars grinding out an extremely melodic riff. The music sounds extra thick, which can probably be credited to producer Mike Elizondo (who has worked with everybody from...

Alanis Morissette has always traded off screen and sound booth since she was a child. The two somewhat converge on her new track "I Remain," which serves as the credits track to forthcoming film "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time," out May 28. Watch the trailer, to the left. Track is embedded below. It's one of the first few newly penned tracks from the Canadian singer-songwriter since her 2008 release "Flavors of Entanglement." It was co-written by Mike Elizondo, who has collaborated with Morissette on several other tracks before. Regal lyrics on missions, 10-cent words and lots of old-world symbolism dominate...

Alanis Morissette fans are going to get their listen at the first new music from the Grammy-winner in two years. She is spearheading the soundtrack for the upcoming epic "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time" with a new single.
Morissette will contribute "I Remain" to the soundtrack from the upcoming Disney movie. The song was reportedly co-written with Mike Elizondo. Elizondo, who has produced hits for Eminem and 50 Cent, has also worked with Fiona Apple, Rilo Kiley, and even "Idol" alums Carrie Underwood and Kris Allen.
It's also not the first time Morissette and Elizondo have collaborated for a soundtrack to a Disney film. He produced her single "Wunderkind" for the "Chronicles of Narnia" soundtrack in 2005.
Harry Gregson-Williams helms the score for the rest of the soundtrack, who also provided the music for the "Narnia" films. The film, based on the popular video game series of the same name, hits theaters May 28th.
