With just one month to go before Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion, Disney+ has released a new promo for the superhero series. Except there’s hardly a superhero in sight. Supervillains, sure, but the only Avenger we see in the new “Fight” promo is James Rhodes (Don Cheadle), and he’s not even in his War Machine armor. As the teaser starts, former S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) tells Rhodes an invasion has arrived on Earth, referring to the shapeshifting Skrulls we’ve seen in Captain Marvel and WandaVision. “And we can’t even tell who the invaders are,” Fury adds. Case in point: When Skrull leader Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), an ally of Fury, grabs the Skrull rebel Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir) by the collar in an art gallery, he realizes that all the bystanders are actually Gravik copies in disguise. You’d think the...

A new teaser for Marvel Studios’ “Secret Invasion” is asking viewers who they trust.
As greyscale surveillance footage captures crowds of people walking, several Marvel characters flash across the screen.
The 20-second teaser sends a cryptic message that even “the ones closest to us,” the ones “we’ve trusted our whole lives,” can be Skrulls, the fictional race of extraterrestrial shapeshifters that appear in the MCU.
With that being said, the eerie teaser proposes the question, “is there really anyone we can trust?,” at least for returning Marvel characters Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders).

They didn't quite look the part but Dominic West and Helena Bonham Carter brought chemistry to BBC4's final biopic

Dominic West was wonderful, yes, and Helena Bonham Carter too, yes, yes, but the main thing to be said about Burton and Taylor was: what a shame. Such a shame that this phenomenal strand of BBC4 biopics ended there and then, thanks to "budget cuts". They'd done Kenneth Williams, Tony Hancock, Enid Blyton and many others, lives unwrapped with forensic writerly skill, and some magnificent acting, and, yes, a hefty salting of dramatic licence – and yet, throughout, somehow each one netted and skewered the soul of the character in question. The 20th century, in Britain, had at least another three dozen ripe characters to offer up, and now it won't happen.

While you're clearing off shelf space for those new Disney Store exclusive "Iron Man 3" figures, go on and clear off a half-inch more for the "Iron Man 3" Blu-ray. The third installment in the ridiculously successful sub-franchise of the even-more-successful Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise will be released on September 24th, enabling you to enjoy the glory that is James Rhodes' pholo shirt and Pepper Potts' giant bunny gift in the comfort of your own home.
The film is being released in almost a number of formats comparable to Iron Man's armor collection: digital, 3D, digital 3D, DVD, Blu-Ray, etc. Marvel's provided the cover art and a rundown of the special features, which you can check out after the jump.

James Rhodes, a.k.a. War Machine, is the Marvel character also known as the black Iron Man.
I have absolutely no opinion of War Machine. I do, however have an opinion of James Rhoades – but not the character James Rhodes. The James Rhoades I’m talking about is graduating from UCLA today (today being June 16th 2013) and has been my apprentice for the last four years.
That James I was introduced to some five years ago by Whitney Farmer at the San Diego Comic Con. James wanted to meet me and have me look at some of his work. It’s real hard for me to view portfolios at Comic Con because my days and nights are crazy busy. If I’m looking at someone’s work I like to be able to spend some time with that person. For me looking at a young artist’s work require...

Listen, there are times in a blogger's life when they just don't want to report on a rumor because it hurts too much. When this rumor went up yesterday on Comic Book Movie, I thought I'd just let it slide. But I've now seen this story pop up in a few more places, so no matter how dubious the unnamed source is, I feel an obligation to Splash Page to write this up. Even though it hurts.
The unnamed source states that Hawkeye is due for a major overhaul during Marvel's Phase Two, and it could lead to a diminished role for Jeremy Renner in "Avengers 2" to make room for a set of twins, the character being written out of the franchise completely, being recast for "The Avengers 2," or being recast and involved heavily in the "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." TV show. But how did these rumors even start?...

With "Iron Man 3" passing the $740 million mark in worldwide ticket sales, Marvel Studios is king of the jungle at the moment. The production company behind "Marvel's The Avengers," all three "Iron Man" films, "Thor," "Captain America" and "The Incredible Hulk" has seen its profile rise in the last five years thanks to the global thirst for superhero movies.
"I'd like to think, as we make more movies and they become more successful, there are less and less people that have never seen any of the other ones," Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told HuffPost Entertainment when asked about worries that expanding the Marvel universe in upcoming films like "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Ant-Man" would alienate the audience.
Yet that success hasn't come without a price. As Deadline.com's Nikki Finke noted this week, Marvel is playing hardball with the cast of "The Avengers 2," a decision that could...

Prior to the theatrical release of Iron Man 3, it was evident from the film’s plot that Tony Stark would encounter many challenges throughout the movie. The tone in the trailers of the film suggested that Stark would be dealing with issues that affected him personally. While he had his share of particular problems in the previous Iron Man films, Stark was affected in a different manner in Iron Man 3 because he helped save the world from a tremendous threat in The Avengers.
In The Avengers, Stark makes a heroic effort in saving the world from a missile and nearly getting caught inside a wormhole while placing the nuclear weapon inside of it so that it detonates and destroys the Chitauri. The aftermath of the battle sets up the premise of why Stark is struggling in Iron Man 3.
Here are 5 reasons Tony Stark is more human than superhero in Iron Man 3.

Shane Black is one of the pioneering Hollywood screenwriters of the contemporary action genre. The screenwriter for Lethal Weapon 1 & 2, Last Action Hero and his directorial debut Kiss Kiss Bang Bang now takes the reins of one of the biggest and most-beloved moneymaking franchises in the golden age of comic-book Hollywood. A $200 million budget is proof Marvel and Disney think Iron Man 3 is in good hands, but canon-obsessed fanboys may not agree.
Co-scripted with TV writer Drew Pearce (who's also credited in the upcoming Pacific Rim and Sherlock Holmes 3), this entry in the series incorporates many fan-favorite storylines and characters from the Iron Man comics. Though they're brought together in a mega-blockbuster of an action film, one or two departures from established canon will be the subject of controversy among hardcore fans for the foreseeable future. Marvel’s Phase 2 has begun, and judging by the third installment for the character that started it all, we’re in for a treat. While everyone has gushed ad nausea about Marvel and their superhero revolution, what consistently impresses me is their eye for talent and their willingness to give these iconic characters to new and talented filmmakers (and not always obvious choices) to put their own spin on them.
If there was any lingering doubt left after Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy that an auteur could put a stamp on superheroes, Shane Black immediately does the same with an opening that is immediately reminiscent his previous collaboration with Robert Downey Jr., Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. There’s Holiday music in the air, a rambling Downey Vo narration, and many other nuggets for Black fans to chew on and enjoy throughout the film. As with the first couple movies,...

A megalomaniacal terrorist unleashes a rash of bombings across the United States. Innocent people die. A nation reels in horror. No, these aren’t the latest headlines - they're the set-up of the latest Iron Man movie, already igniting controversy. For some viewers, that plotline about a terrorist known as The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) cuts too closely to the Boston Marathon bombing allegedly carried out by the Tsarnaev brothers earlier this month. It certainly caused a hush to fall over the crowd at the film's glitzy Los Angeles premiere at the El Capitan Theatre last week. The film's stars addressed...

To reference the old song from TV’s “Schoolhouse Rock”, for superhero flicks three is usually not a “magic number”. Going back 30 years (wow!), the Christopher Reeve Superman blockbusters started their full downward slide with Superman III (the idea of Supes fighting himself is cool, but Richard Pryor as a master computer-hacker?). Spider-man 3 was certainly the weakest of the Raimi trilogy with super-villain overload and a dancing black-clad Peter Parker (ugh!). Batman Forever had Tim Burton handing over the directorial reins to Joel Schumacher with disastrous results (the same is true when Brett Ratner replaced Brian Singer on X Men: The Last Stand). Some fans may cite the change in film makers for the faults of those part threes. Well our favorite “billionaire genius playboy philanthropist” is back with Iron Man 3, but with a new addition calling the shots. Director of the first two flicks, Jon Favreau, is...

Fun has become a slightly forgotten commodity in the summer blockbuster, with many studios and filmmakers now inspired by the efforts of directors like Christopher Nolan to be as grim as possible. The modern superhero often has to be angst-ridden or otherwise mentally scarred to make an impact on audiences, so it’s a pleasant surprise to see Iron Man 3 buck the trend while embracing many of those influential ideals. Tony Stark, post-Avengers, is suffering, but he doesn’t wallow too long; with a lively ensemble surrounding Robert Downey, Jr. and a sharp, witty script, Iron Man 3 represents, if nothing more, a welcome return to form.
In terms of plot, what do you need to know aside from the fact that Tony Stark once again dons the iron armor to face off against a slew of bad guys?...

On the sliding scale of big Hollywood blockbusters, you could put the Transformers films at one end of the spectrum and the Dark Knight films on the opposite end. One franchise is big, dumb plastic eye candy, where the plot is nothing more than a way to trigger the FX setpieces. The other is a thought-provoking, highly artistic set of films disguised as popcorn movies. The Iron Man movies fall somewhere between those extremes and tend to slide up and down the scale depending on which film in the series you are talking about. Sadly, the latest entry, Iron Man 3, slides a little down the wrong side of the scale.

Don Cheadle returns for another go as James Rhodes in "Iron Man 3", bringing Tony Stark's best friend to life both inside and outside of the suit. The actor spoke to MTV News about his on-screen chemistry with Robert Downey Jr. and how "Iron Man 3" is filled with more banter-iffic moments like those seen in the climax of "Iron Man 2."
"This was just more of it," says Cheadle, "more opportunity for us to bust each others' chops. Being the conscience for Tony is kind of what Rhodey provides, and Tony for Rhodey kind of provides someone who is trying to get him out of his shell, so to speak."

[From MTV News] Robert Downey Jr. and Don Cheadle had Gwyneth Paltrow chucklingwhen they said their "Iron Man" suits were cumbersome and uncomfortable. But is Paltrow really tougher than the guys? Cheadle has a different story.
"Because she didn't wear it," Cheadle told MTV News about his "Iron Man 3" costar. "Hers was drawn on. Hers was CGI."
Cheadle plays Colonel James Rhodes, who wears the Iron Patriot armor. He said he was disappointed that the suit hadn't gotten more comfortable since he donned it in "Iron Man 2." "I mean, that's a chief complaint I logged," Cheadle explained. "It's like, 'You guys didn't get this more refined? It still weighs this much? I still can't articulate the arms to touch my face when I wear it.' But we know what it is when we sign up to do it, and it was great to come back and recreate the character again."

Don Cheadle doesn't mince words when it comes to his feelings on wearing the actual Iron Man suit. Or, in his case, the Iron Patriot suit -- a rebranded, star-spangled version of the War Machine suit from "Iron Man 2." At least, I don't think I'm misinterpreting his disdain when he compares it to a device that the infamous Spanish friar Tomás de Torquemada -- known for his proficiency in the art of torture -- might have created.
Regardless of that, Cheadle is once again playing Col. James "Rhodey" Rhodes -- a role that he first played in "Iron Man 2," taking over for Terrence Howard -- in this weekend's instant blockbuster, "Iron Man 3." In this sequel, Cheadle has quite a bit more to do as the U.S. government's version of Iron Man (a.k.a. Iron Patriot) than in the previous film -- and, to Cheadle's pleasure, a lot...

You can tell just by looking at the Iron Man armors that they aren't the most comfortable things to wear. They're big, bulky and because of the name "Iron Man," it can't really be made out of a real breathable or flexible material. Don Cheadle gave MTV News the lowdown on suiting up as James Rhodes for "Iron Man 3," even detailing a few of the nuisances that come with playing Tony Stark's best friend.
"Guys, you didn't get this more refined?," says Cheadle, recalling what he said upon wearing his new armor. "It still weights this much? I still can't articulate the arms and touch my face?" The actor goes on to discuss Gwyneth Paltrow's role in the film and how Rhodes and Tony Stark relate to each other in the new film.

What do you think of this "Iron Man 3" interview?...

Back in 2010, a few months after the release of Iron Man 2, it was rumored that a spin-off film starring Don Cheadle's James Rhodes/War Machine was in the works at Marvel Studios. The actor later confirmed that the movie was in development, but since then, we haven't heard anything about the project until now. On this week's Empire Podcast, Cheadle dropped by to share this thoughts on where a War Machine movie and where it was heading plot-wise. He compares it to the first Iron Man film, saying that he would've been darker and "really realistic". “When we have talked about the [War Machine] spin-off, what the departure point might be for War Machine… [we've discussed that] it might be when he goes rogue, so to speak, and takes a mission that he believes he is morally responsible for but is against policy and does it anyway. What happens when...

If you've seen much footage for the upcoming "Iron Man 3," one image that appears quite often is Gwyneth Paltrow's Pepper Potts wearing Tony Stark's (Robert Downey Jr.) suit of armor, saving his life. Is that the end of the road for the character as a super hero though, or is there room for Pepper in "The Avengers 2"?
When asked about the possibility at an "Iron Man 3" press conference featuring all of the movie's stars, Paltrow was a fan of the idea. "People really love to see Pepper in the suit and kicking a**," Gwyneth says, "So I would come back ... In the comics she becomes Rescue, her own person." Rescue is the superhero alter ego of Pepper Potts, who wears a suit of armor, similar to Iron Man's.
Downey also points out that in the comics Pepper marries Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau), which got many laughs from the assembled reporters,...

"Iron Man 3" brings Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) back to movie theaters for the third time in four years, but according to critics there isn't a lot of rust on this blockbuster franchise.
"To use a recondite term in professional film criticism: whoo-hoo!" Guardian critic Peter Bradshaw wrote in his four-star-out-of-five review. "This is luxury superhero entertainment and the director and co-writer is Shane Black, who gave us the excellent 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang' in 2005. I bow down to Mr. Black as the Aaron Sorkin of action comedy." Black replaced Jon Favreau as director of the "Iron Man" franchise for "Iron Man 3." (Favreau still appears in the film as Stark's bodyguard-confidant Happy Hogan.)
"It's really Black's scripting nous that makes 'Iron Man 3' soar -- not least in the way the former Lethal Weapon scribe channels the buddy formula he practically invented into Stark’s ongoing relationship with Col.

Warning: Major Spoilers From The Outset
All the main characters in director/screenwriter Shane Black’s brave and exciting Iron Man 3 wear a suit. By his own admission, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is “cocooned” in his. He retreats inside the Iron Man suit, now up to an almost unfathomably expensive Mark 42, because it is the only place he feels safe. Those around Stark, be they on the side of right or wrong, wear their own suit. The suit hides their true self and it is only by removing this disguise that they can reveal it. Iron Man 3 mocks the notion of re-invention; Stark can build all the iron suits he wants, they will save him from just about any foe. But take the mask off and he is just as soft, weak and fallible as those he strives to save.

What happened next to billionaire Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, after facing an alien wormhole over Manhattan in last summer’s hit The Avengers? Writer-director Shane Black (of Lethal Weapon fame) with screenwriter Drew Pearce co-pens the answer in the latest of the Iron Man franchise, a sequel to The Avengers, showing Stark as more vulnerable and likeable than ever before.
Ignore the idea of this film being in 3D as somehow adding anything additional for your admission fee to the fore – it doesn’t. Merely take it at face value as a highly enjoyable character exploration of one of Marvel’s best loved superheroes with a lot more eccentricity, bags of humour and a hint of Warren Ellis’ famous Extremis comic book mini-series thrown in.

One of the coolest parts of "Marvel's the Avengers" had to be seeing the stars of disparate Marvel films finally sharing the screen together. I remember applause breaks pretty much every time a pairing happened or skirmish started. The intermingling makes these movies fun. Now Marvel is slowly building out their cinematic world, populating it with as many extraordinary people as the comic universe that spawned it.
Since the sequel won't be able to deliver on the some of the same thrills now that Thor and the Hulk have finally met, it would make sense for Joss Whedon and company to pull other supporting characters out of their corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and plop them into the middle of the Avengers. Don Cheadle's already said there are talks going on regarding increasing War Machine's profile, and I think that'd be a great idea. Here...

With Iron Man 3 on the verge of its cinematic debut, Don Cheadle – A.K.A. Colonel James Rhodes/War Machine – spoke about the future of his character within Marvel’s colossal universe. The actor even spoke about the possibilities of a Rhodey cameo in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and, in particular, The Avengers 2.
Check out what he had to say about The Avengers 2 to Collider below:
“I know that [there are] conversations that have been happening, so we’ll see what happens. If that’s able to happen and it makes sense for the story, I’m sure it’ll happen, and if not it’s fine. It has to work within the world and sort of the mythology of the whole Marvel universe.”
While Cheadle doesn’t nail down any specific facts, we do know that Joss Whedon is toiling away with the script for the sequel at the minute,...

Whoo-hoo! Robert Downey Jr is back alongside Gwyneth Paltrow, Guy Pearce and Don Cheadle in Shane Black's luxury superhero extravaganza
To use a recondite term in professional film criticism: whoo-hoo! Iron Man 3 is descending on cinemas with an almighty crash, assuming the dramatic-yet-camp landing pose that Tony Stark in his exo-body-chassis favours on arrival: right knee down, right fist in the smashed asphalt, left elbow back, head up. This is luxury superhero entertainment and the director and co-writer is Shane Black, who gave us the excellent Kiss Kiss Bang Bang in 2005. I bow down to Mr Black as the Aaron Sorkin of action comedy; he gets the biggest laugh of the year with a joke about Croydon, with some additional Anglophile kisses blown to Downton Abbey, and what I suspect is a disguised homage to Mike Myers's immortal creation Austin Powers.

Don Cheadle’s James Rhodes is set to play a chunkier role than ever in the forthcoming Iron Man 3, so much so that it’s set tongues wagging as to whether the character might pop up in The Avengers 2. Marvel has released a set of Iron Man 3 character photos, and each one comes with a little description of who that character is. They include new images of James Badge Dale as Eric Savin and Stephanie Szostak as Ellen Brandt. There are also descriptions for Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), James Rhodes (Don Cheadle), Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce), Dr. Maya Hansen (Rebecca Hall), Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau), and The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley).
Brandt is a facially scarred Extremis soldier/assassin. A physically enhanced woman with deep-seated anger and a sadistic streak, Brandt enjoys using her exceptional strength to hurt and maim her enemies.
Savin is Killian’s main henchman and the muscle behind the Extremis group. He is intimidating both in size and strength and is a stone-cold killer, willing to commit any act that Killian demands, no matter how heinous.

“Iron Man: Rise of Technovore” is the latest in a partnership between Japanese anime studio Madhouse and Marvel Animation, the same team-up that brought us all four Marvel Anime last year. Personally I liked them all to varying degrees but was pretty pleased with them for the most part. I had really hoped Japan would take more license with the characters but hey what we got was pretty fun, and Iron Man was actually one of the ones I thought had a very unique story for. However “Rise of Technovore” cannot make the same claim. Let me start with a quick rundown of the plot. Tony Stark has created a new satellite dubbed “Howard” after his late father. The purpose of the satellite is the ultimate big brother to would-be terrorists and criminals, with everyone’s favorite peace keeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D. in control. The launch...

Iron Man 3 has debuted a new TV spot.
The latest Marvel Studios advert focuses on Don Cheadle in his new role as Iron Patriot.
Cheadle will reprise his role as James Rhodes after suiting up in the character's traditional guise as War Machine in Iron Man 2.
Much speculation was caused when the first images of the Iron Patriot armour leaked from the set.
In comics continuity, Iron Patriot was the role taken on by the villainous Norman Osborn after he ousted Tony Stark as leader of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Robert Downey Jr, Gwyneth Paltrow, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale, Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley will also star in the movie.
The film's UK premiere has been delayed due to a clash with Margaret Thatcher's funeral.
Iron Man 3 will debut on April 26 in the UK and May 3 in the Us.

The 'Nuclear shadows' of the Chitauri attack in Iron Man 3?
With Iron Man 3 set for release in exactly one month, we thought we’d take a look at four reasons why you should be excited by a second sequel (sequels being, too often, not worth the price of admission).
1. The Avengers
Yep, part of what makes Iron Man 3 so potentially engrossing is seeing how Tony Stark’s experience battling “an army…from outer space” (Thanks, Cap) has changed the billionaire industrialist. As Stark himself proclaims in Iron Man 3‘s trailers, “nothing’s been the same since New York.” Has his ego “matured”? Is he more concerned about the plight of the everyman?
There’s a great scene in the trailer that appears as though it’s a shrine to the fallen (after the battle with the Chitauri), and ― unless I miss my guess ― looks like the...

I don’t know what a “technovore” is, but it’s rising in the original, Japanese-produced (one look at the Black Widow’s hair and you sorta knew that, right?) Iron Man animated movie “Iron Man: Rise of Technovore”, which is set to hit DVD and Blu-ray this April 16, 2013. Until then, check out a second trailer for the movie. Have to say, I’m still not sure what the Punisher is doing in a movie about armored guys fighting it out with lasers and whatnot. He’s a tad out of his league, don’t you think? On the plus side, he’s voiced by Norman Reedus, Daryl Dixon himself from “The Walking Dead”. So there’s that. Billionaire Tony Stark, in his Iron Man armor, prevents an attack from a mysterious new foe, but innocent bystanders are killed, including his best friend War Machine, Lt. Colonel James Rhodes.
