The 2008 cartoon series "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" is now a heralded piece of the "Star Wars" legacy, filling in plenty of gaps in the "Star Wars" prequel film trilogy. It also finally told the story of the eponymous conflict — which was first namedropped all the way back in the original 1977 "Star Wars." "The Clone Wars" was a story that had been speculated on for more than 40 years. What if I told you, though, that the story had already been recounted by 2008?
In between the theatrical releases of "Attack of the Clones" (in 2002) and "Revenge of the Sith" (in 2005), Lucasfilm launched "The Clone Wars Multimedia Project." This was a collection of tie-in media telling the story between the films of a galaxy at war.
The essentials of the project include:

"Peace is a lie," the poem begins, "There is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me."
Six simple sentences that have led souls toward the despair of evil and helped them drag a galaxy with them down into that abyss. You see, this is the Code of the Sith (the "Qotsisajak") from "Star Wars," the practitioners of the dark side of the Force.
This mantra was written by David Gaider while writing for the 2003 video game "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic," as part of the game's divulging into the background of the Sith. It has since been embraced by the "Star Wars" canon, appearing in plenty more media thereafter. When Darth Maul first returned as a delirious wreck in "The Clone Wars," his actor Sam Witwer (a...

In George Lucas' 1977 film "Star Wars," a military-run, fascist Empire rules the galaxy and it's up to a scrappy group of Rebels to attack them and destroy their ultimate weapon: a moon-sized space station capable of exploding entire planets with a single shot (known as the Death Star). In "Star Wars," the highest-ranking Empire official audiences see is Grand Moff Tarkin (Peter Cushing), a stern commanding officer who orders many to their deaths and who commands an eerie masked space wizard named Darth Vader. At one point, Tarkin mentions that the Empire has an Emperor, although we never actually see him in the flesh.
In the 1980 sequel "The Empire Strikes Back," it is revealed that Darth Vader was always a high-ranking individual in the Empire, as we now see him commanding entire Star Destroyers. It is also revealed that Vader answers directly to the mysterious Emperor, who only appears in the form of a hologram.

This post contains spoilers for the "Star Wars: The Bad Batch" season 2 finale.
Knowing that the imprisoned Clones are being taken to Dr. Hemlock's (Jimmi Simpson) secret facility, and that's where Crosshair is being held as well, the Bad Batch (Dee Bradley Baker) decide they need to mount a rescue. With no indication of where Hemlock's top-secret facility is, they decide they need to find Hemlock and plant a homing beacon on his ship. They work to infiltrate a summit being held by Tarkin (Stephen Stanton) on his home planet of Eriadu. As they make their way to Eriadu and begin infiltrating Tarkin's base, they realize there are other anomalies that make them believe the base has been infiltrated by others. They plant the homing beacon successfully, but Saw Gerrera's partisans are hell-bent on destroying the base, regardless of the importance of the Bad Batch's mission. With the base...

This Star Wars article contains spoilers for The Mandalorian.
The Mandalorian kicks the doors open on Grogu’s past in “The Foundling” as well as sends Din and Bo-Katan on a dangerous rescue mission into the heart of monster territory. Both storylines lead to plenty of lore as well as callbacks to other parts of the Star Wars saga. Most importantly, we get a massive surprise guest character that will have fans of the Prequel Trilogy spitting out their morning caf.
Here are all the Star Wars easter eggs and references we found in “The Foundling”:

Spoilers for "Star Wars Jedi: Battle Scars" by Sam Maggs follow.
The last video game tie-in "Star Wars" gave us was the inherently readable "Star Wars: Battlefront II: Inferno Squad," so I was excited to get my hands on the latest, "Star Warrs Jedi: Battle Scars." It promises to lead into the game "Star Wars Jedi: Survivor," which comes out in late April of this year.
The sequel/prequel book picks up a few years after the events of the imminently playable "Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order," and follows the crew of the Mantis — Cal Kestis, Cere, Dreez, and Merrin — as they continue to bring the fight to the Empire. After a botched mission, they pick up a Stormtrooper trying to defect away from the Empire with a terrible secret. There's a secret technology called the Shroud that has the ability to make someone virtually invisible to their enemies. If...

This post contains spoilers for "The Mandalorian" season 3 premiere.
One of the best things about shows like "The Mandalorian" is that a single world or phrase can open up new avenues of storytelling, and help one understand the landscape and geography of "Star Wars" better. The season 3 premiere of "The Mandalorian" presents a perfect example of this, when Greef Karga talks about how Nevarro is now an economic powerhouse, thanks in part to its placement along the Hydian Way.
The Hydian Way first became part of "Star Wars" lore way back in the late 1980s, debuting in "Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game." It became more important in future "Star Wars" storytelling, referenced across games, books, and television shows.
In the current canon, the Hydian Way is a vital hyperspace route that connects the Corporate Sector to the Core Worlds, and then heads back out to the Outer Rim. Think of...

There will be spoilers for "Andor" Episode IV.
The fourth episode of "Andor" brings us a brand new arc. It sees Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård) dropping Cassian Andor off on a remote world where he is an untrusted last-minute addition to a heist of galactic proportions. As Cassian gets settled in with the group of partisans planning the job, Luthen heads back to Coruscant where it's revealed he's leading at least a double life and involved in sedition against the Empire with senators like Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly). For her part, Mon Mothma struggles with being watched and having potential enemies surrounding her constantly, including her own husband.
All of this is set against a further backdrop of intrigue and jockeying for position inside the Imperial Security Bureau. The main storyline there seems to be from an Isb officer played by Denise Gough, looking to expand her influence in the...

Even relatively casual "Star Wars" fans are at least vaguely familiar with "The Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise," a key moment from "Revenge of the Sith" that one, hints at some very important history within the franchise, and two, became a very popular meme format on the internet.

For a great many people, "Star Wars" is a series of movies that are major touchstones in pop culture. For others, it's an ever-expansive universe filled with endless corners to explore, from merchandise to audio dramas, comics, animated TV shows, and, rather importantly, novels. Over the years, fans have been treated to some downright important and excellent storytelling within a galaxy far, far away in the pages of books that have explored everything from what happened after "Return of the Jedi" (the "Heir to the Empire" trilogy and/or the "Aftermath" trilogy) to -- and this is true -- zombie Stormtroopers...

Star Wars has a rich history of tie-in stories, from somber explorations of space politics to weird, goofy adventure. Disney’s revamped canon has been in place for almost ten years, since 2012. The first novel in the new canon, 2014’s A New Dawn, realigned the books with what Lucasfilm would eventually do with the Sequel Trilogy under the new ownership.
If you want to read the canon books in chronological order, where do you start? And where do they fit with regards to the movies? When Disney started up their new Star Wars content, wiping the previous Expanded Universe material from continuity, there was dismay from fans who were furious that this wealth of novels, comics, games, etc., was now relegated to Legends status. As the years have gone by, though, certain concepts, storylines or characters have been carried over from the old canon to the current one. The Clone Wars and Rebels have been good value for this, for example.
But a new novel has made a major change that completely separates it from the Legends canon, and it’s all to do with Darth Plagueis. After the reference to Palpatine’s Sith master in Revenge of the Sith, fans had to wait until 2012’s Darth Plagueis novel, written by James Luceno with input from George Lucas, for his full story. That’s now a Legends title, however, and E.K. Johnston’s Queen’s...

Emotions run high as the Bad Batch clashes with Captain Rex in "A Distant Echo." The Clone Wars is filled with inventive aliens and technology, both brand-new for the show and adapted from the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy on which it is based. Many of these things are making a grand return in the final season of the animated series.

Star Wars: Resistance Reborn sets the stage for The Rise of Skywalker. Our review...
Star Wars: Resistance Reborn is in a difficult spot: ostensibly filling in the gaps between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker but also constrained by the mystery of the latter. It explains some of what happened after the battle on Crait, while Poe Dameron reckons with his actions during Episode VIII. As far as Star Wars novels go, this is a thoroughly average one from an accomplished author, and even if I didn’t love this book, I’d love to see more Star Wars from Rebecca Roanhorse.
With the Resistance down to only enough crew members to fit on the Millennium Falcon, General Organa calls for help. Her plan is four-fold: visit an old political ally on Ryloth; steal back captured Resistance ships headed for a First Order scrap yard...

I confess, I had my concerns back when Marvel announced the new Darth Vader comic. The concept seemed a simple one; how would the Dark Lord of the Sith take to his new role? Unfortunately, it’s also one that had already been explored in the old Expanded Universe. Too many of Marvel’s Star Wars comics have seemed to repeat ideas from the EU, so I approached this one with a sense of resignation – and I’m happy to say that I was wrong.
Charles Soule’s script is excellent. He truly understands the relationship between Darth Vader and Palpatine. It gels perfectly with the stories Marvel has already told; the plot fits so very well with Kieron Gillen’s first series. We see Palpatine, nervous and uncertain, wondering whether or not the Chosen One has lost his edge.

Rogue One is set to cast a wider net on the known Star Wars universe. Telling the story before the events of Episode IV: A New Hope is fraught with dangers, as the ultimate outcomes are set in stone.
What Gareth Edwards and producer Kathleen Kennedy have done so well in this new Star Wars film is populate the story with great actors, who bring a compelling dynamic to the wider galaxy far, far away.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year for film fans, with some of the best films of the year in theaters and lots of elaborate and thoroughly-researched books to read. This rundown has real variety, with new and recent texts covering cinema history, TV greats, and, of course, Star Wars. Note that one of this year’s finest books, The Oliver Stone Experience (Abrams Books), was covered by The Film Stage in September via an interview with author Matt Zoller Seitz. Make sure to check out Experience, and see below for another fine selection from the prolific Seitz.

James Luceno‘s new novel Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel has to fill a very specific gap in the Star Wars timeline – it’s a prequel to a prequel, while also being a sequel to the prequel trilogy. How did Star Wars' Rebellion get started? According to the author of a new prequel to next month's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the answer goes all the way back to the birth of the Empire … and the controversial prequel trilogy.
The issue of the Rebellion's origins have been touched on before — the recent Star Wars: Ahsoka novel by E.K. Johnston features the first meeting between Ahsoka Tano and Bail Organa, the original leaders of the movement — but James Luceno, writer of Star Wars: Catalyst — A Rogue One Story, places the roots of the movement...

We've just discovered yet another cast member of Lucasfilm's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Valene Kane has revealed she has a very important role related to Jyn Erso. We know Mads Mikkelsen wasn't shy about dropping Rogue One secrets. In fact, he was the one who let slip he was playing Jyn's father, Galen Erso. But now we know Valene Kane, who played Rose Stagg in the British crime drama The Fall, is playing another Erso. Belfast Live writes the actor "admits she was stunned after landing an out of this world role in the new Star Wars film. The Co Down actor will play Lyra Erso in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, directed by Gareth Edwards." Lyra Erso huh? While she didn't give any specifics to Belfast Live, many have assumed Lyra is Jyn's mother. If true, it's likely Lyra's scenes will be flashbacks as Kane is...

Up until recently only two new canon Star Wars novels were books that I thought both captured what this thing of ours is and just added something potentially valuable to the mythos or how we understood it. Also, and this is important, were cool. The rest, of which I have read all off (excluding those aimed specifically at kids), were in various degrees problematic.
They were also both surprises.
One, Twilight: Battlefront was based on a video game, which historically thus far has been the bane of many a novel and film. It was excellent, had a marquee sublimely atmospheric Vader moment, depicted better than any of the numerous scenes in Lords of the Sith (a fine enough, best of the rest novel), and offered us the vantage point of the rebellion outside of the household names. The other, Lost Stars, was from an author I was not familiar with and was a Ya novel.

An official synopsis for James Luceno’s upcoming Star Wars novel Catalyst has been released online and shared by Stitch Kingdom. Catalyst serves a prequel novel that leads up to the events of Lucasfilm's upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
The story dives into the Rogue One mythos and offers concrete details on some of the characters and their relationships with each other. The synopsis alone offers some very interesting information that you'll want to check out if you don't mind a few possible Spoilers:
War is tearing the galaxy apart. For years the Republic and the Separatists have battled across the stars, each building more and more deadly technology in an attempt to win the war. As a member of Chancellor Palpatine’s top secret Death Star project, Orson Krennic is determined to develop a superweapon before their enemies can. And an old friend of Krennic’s, the brilliant scientist Galen Erso,...

Thanks to StarWarsNews.net (via HeyUGuys), we have a new look at Darth Vader in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The extent of the iconic villain's role in the movie remains to be seen, but rumours point to him being involved in at least one key action sequence (though there have been claims it may have been toned down when Disney looked to lighten up the movie's tone to match The Force Awakens). Regardless, the image below doesn't reveal an awful lot, but it definitely looks like Vader is sporting the same armour he had in Revenge of the Sith. There's been no word on whether or not we should expect another trailer for Rogue One at some point over the next few months, but it will be interesting to see if Disney ends up showing any more of the Lord of the Sith off as they start promoting the movie.

As the deluge of Rogue One news/ tie-in products continues to roll out, new information for the upcoming Rogue One prequel novel, Catalyst, has been revealed via an official sysnopsis. On top of containing more information about the film's hero and villain, it reveals a surprising connection to the Star Wars Prequels. Come inside to check it out!
Rogue One: Catalyst by James Luceno is set to hit bookshelves on November 15th, a solid month before Rogue One: A Star Wars Story enters theaters. We've known for a while now that the book would serve as a prequel to the events in the movie, giving us more insight to the new characters and their place in the galaxy. While many of us assumed this meant the book would take place immediately preceding the film's events, the official synopsis from Del Rey (via Stitch Kingdom) reveals it takes place further back.

This morning (for us) brought out the publishing panel at Star Wars Celebration Europe, in which a handful of Rogue One tie-in books were announced/revealed. Come inside to check them all out!
While these companion books aren't anything out of the ordinary for a major movie release, it's still neat to see them officially announced with swanky looking covers and everything. While we learned about the Rogue One prequel novel Catalyst a few months ago, we didn't know who would be writing it, so that reveal is nice to see along with the cover. James Luceno is the author on Catalyst, and I couldn't be happier.
He's written several Star Wars novels in the past, making for some of the more engaging and fun novels out of the old Expanded Universe (Labrynth of Evil, Darth Plagueis), and most recently wrote the new canon Tarkin novel. The latter of which...

Out with the old, in with the new! “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is in theaters, which means there is less than year until “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” tells the official tale of how those Death Star plans ended up in Princess Leia’s possession. 354 days to be exact. The movie is filming right now, but the box of mystery is still air tight. Lucasfilm has released only the very basics. “Rogue One” will be a heist film about stealing the Death Star plans. It is being directed by Gareth Edwards with Gary Whitta and Chris Weitz as screenwriters. An ensemble cast starring Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Forest Whitaker, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, and Jonathan Aris is in place. The late Peter Cushing will be digitally added to “Rogue One,” reprising his role post-mortem as Grand Moff Tarkin. And that’s it.

The X-Wing was central to the Star Wars Original Trilogy. But what does its evolution through the films tell us?
Spoilers for the two Star Wars trilogies to date lie within, as well as Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Incom’s T-65B fighter, and its precursors, have been a staple of the Star Wars universe from the moment that we arrive at Yavin IV’s Massassi temple just prior to A New Hope’s climactic battle. Pitched in supplementary material as an easy-to-fly fighter, adopting the same control system as the common-or-garden T-16 Skyhopper - a vehicle beloved of farm boys across the galaxy looking to bullseye Womp Rats - its simplicity goes some way to explaining Luke Skywalker’s seemingly inherent ability to fly one with the best of them straight off the bat.
Though the fact his dad was a bit of natural helped as well,...

One of the most mysterious characters from “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is Supreme Leader Snoke. We know Andy Serkis plays him, we know the character has an agenda of some kind…and that’s it. Nothing has been revealed about the character’s species or allegiance. The only thing we have to go on* is this quote Serkis gave to EW: “Supreme Leader Snoke is quite an enigmatic character, and strangely vulnerable at the same time as being quite powerful […] Obviously he has a huge agenda. He has suffered a lot of damage. As I said, there is a strange vulnerability to him, which belies his true agenda, I suppose.” *Officially. Please do not post leaked details in the comments. But what if Snoke has been here all along? From before “Phantom Menace,” mentioned only in passing lines of dialogue and hushed whispers. What if Snoke is Darth Plagueis?...

Let me get out of this way, I role with James Luceno and I always will because he was 1/2 of the team that brought me Robotech in novel form in the ‘80s. That said, there is good James Luceno and bad James Luceno. Good James Luceno is Labyrinth of Evil which combined with Matthew Stover’s kick ass novelization of Revenge of the Sith is the Star Wars prequel as it should have been told, not whatever it was that happened on to the screen. Good Luceno is Darth Plagueis. Bad Luecno, and I know perhaps the majority does not agree with this, is Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader. It’s a book blessed with a cool concept and central character, a story everyone wants to see — Vader being Vader — but it really fails to turn the concept into actual moments that payoff the promise of premise. Never...

One of the great things about Star Wars is how fans can watch the films, enjoy them for what they are. and go on their merry way. Or they can dive under the surface and come back with bits of obscure lore where their times tables used to be. Whatever your level of commitment to Sparkle Motion™, the Star Wars universe has something for you. For example, these two clips from the upcoming episode of “Star Wars Rebels” feature the series' debut of the genocidal Grand Moff Tarkin. Seems pretty straight-forward, right? Star Wars Rebels: "Tarkin Arrives" on Disney Video Star Wars Rebels: "The Jedi Are Dead" on Disney Video But where does this fit in the timeline? “Star Wars Rebels” takes place approximately 4 years before the events of “A New Hope.” So at this point, it’s safe to say Wilhuff Tarkin is deeply entrenched at the top of the Imperial hierarchy.

Ever since his introduction in The Empire Strikes Back in 1980, we've only known the puppet-master villain as Emperor Palpatine, Senator, Chancellor, and his Sith title Darth Sidious. I've never really thought of the guy having a first name because why would an Emperor or Sith need a first name? Well, he does and it was revealed in the upcoming Star Wars novel Tarkin, which was written by James Luceno. That name has now leaked out on a Wookieepedia update on Palpatine stating that the new name is listed on page 93 of Tarkin. They must have got themselves an advance copy.
So I'm sure you're all dying to know what it is! His name is…. Sheev.
Sheev Palpatine?! That's kind of anti-climatic don't you think? There is really nothing menacing about the name Sheev. I guess it's not the most ridiculous name in the Star Wars universe, I was just expecting...

Interstellar
EW reports that over an hour of footage from Christopher Nolan's latest feature "Interstellar" has been shot in IMAX.
Nolan says: "This is the first film I have made where the actual experience of the film is paramount to the audience. You would think that's the case with Batman movies but it's not; they're more dependent on the reaction of characters on screen. Interstellar is different. It harkens back to the direct experience films of 2001, where you're not just experiencing it through the characters, you are lost in it."
Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death
Relativity has moved up the release date of Tom Harper's horror sequel "Woman in Black 2: Angel Of Death". Originally slated to open January 30th, it will now hit January 2nd.
Jeremy Irvine and Helen McCroy star in the film which takes place four decades after the events in the 2012 Daniel Radcliffe-led original.

It’s been 37 years since he was first mentioned in Star Wars-Episode 4: A New Hope, and the main villain of the Star Wars universe has not been given a full name. An upcoming novel finally gives the infamous villain a full moniker.
[Editor's Update: I received an advanced copy of this book a few weeks ago and saw this name, however Nda's prevented us from releasing this news previously, and it wasn't until Nycc and a jerk online decided to leak it, that it's become public knowledge. ]
He’s been called by many names; The Emperor, Darth Sidious, Senator Palpatine and Emperor Palpatine. But through it all, he’s had no first name. Not in any of the films, nor any of the other canonical multi-media adventures in the Star Wars Universe. That’s finally changed.
A name has been given to the sinister Sith in the upcoming, canonical book “Tarkin," written by author James Luceno. (Evidently Grand Moff Tarkin, who was portrayed by Hammer Films horror movie legend Peter Cushing, is getting some love.) This news was revealed at NY Comic-con.
So, what is Palpatine’s first name? It’s Sheev! Sheev Plapatine.

It’s been 37 years since he was first mentioned in Star Wars-Episode 4: A New Hope, and the main villain of the Star Wars universe has not been given a full name. An upcoming novel finally gives the infamous villain a full moniker.

The What?: It’s a column on Star Wars news and rumors and therefore contains Spoilers and Speculation. If this is your first week, this is actually a pretty good week.
This Week: This week for my norm-core geeks. That's right, no super-duper deep spoilers here, but a lot of stuff about the world that the Jedi exist in. Then, Fan Films are back and I'll break down just how much you'd have to spend if you suddenly wanted to own All The Canonical Star Wars.
How to begin this week?
How about with MakingStarWars and their impressionistic descriptions of concept art? Those are still entertaining me, mostly because it’s concept art described and not a studio leak that could get someone in serious trouble. Then again, I guess our major spoiler from Episode VII (that I’m not re-hashing here) also came from one of these concept art descriptions,...

Yesterday is was announced that Disney would not really be using anything from the Star Wars Expand Universe that has been built over the years. A lot of fans seemed very disappointed by the news. There are a lot of cool stories in there that would make for some great concepts for the films they are making. The Lucasfilm Story Group has already started to build their version of the universe, and they will be releasing a new series of books that tie into the films and series that they are developing.
The first book is called Star Wars: A New Dawn, which will serve as a prequel to the upcoming Star Wars: Rebels cartoon. Thanks to the press release we have a synopsis to share with you:
The first novel to benefit from this deeper collaboration is Star Wars: A New Dawn, by bestselling author John Jackson Miller.
