Cemented his legacy at Maryland with a pair of clutch perimeter shots
in March 2003. The first occurred in a late-season conference matchup
with North Carolina State, where he shot with the clock winding down to
win the game and give coach Gary Williams his 500th career victory. The
second, and the more dramatic of the two, occurred in the first round
of the 2002 NCAA Tournament, against UNC-Wilmington. With barely five
seconds remaining and down by 1, Nicholas nailed a running 3-point shot
as the clock expired.
