The indignities of the grave pale in comparison to the indignities of having your preserved corpse put on display as a sideshow attraction, wax museum exhibit, or amusement park horror ride prop. You could ask Elmer McCurdy all about that if he wasn’t, as one of the best songs in Dead Outlaw, an unmissable musical filled with excellent tunes, puts succinctly, dead. Had Elmer stayed dead in one last place a bit longer he might have added an appearance on The Six Million Dollar Man to his show biz resume.
In one of the quirkiest, most morbid and somehow loveliest musicals to hit Broadway this season – even Floyd Collins‘ dying spelunker plot seems conventional by comparison – Dead Outlaw, directed by David Cromer, is a very late entry in Broadway’s 2024-2025 season, and absolutely one of the best.

In the recent Time magazine cover story on the first 100 days of Donald Trump’s second term, a presidential aide explained the president’s revenge strategy: “Look, either we come after you, we shut you down, or you’re going to help me out.”
There’s a famous scene in Goodfellas that explains this mob boss mentality. In voiceover from Ray Liotta’s wiseguy Henry Hill, we learn that the New York Mafia don Paulie tells anyone who owes him fealty, or really anything, “Fuck you, pay me” — or else.

John Travolta is an iconic actor, but his career has taken various twists and turns. The actor rose to stardom in the 1970s when he played a role in the television series Welcome Back, Kotter. His TV fame helped land him his iconic role in the 1977 film Saturday Night Fever, playing smooth-dancing Tony Manero. Soon, Travolta portrayed an equally notable role in the musical Grease as the leading male love interest, Danny Zuko. Travolta has been nominated for two Academy Awards for Saturday Night Fever and Pulp Fiction.
Despite his status as an Academy Award nominee, Travolta has had plenty of misses in his career. The actor has had multiple movies score a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes, including Look Who's Talking Now, Speed Kills, The Poison Rose, Staying Alive, and Life on the Line. While these scores were particularly lacking, he boasts a whole additional host of titles with single-digit scores,...

Mafia movies are known for their raw depiction of an underworld of crime and corruption and everything that stems from those. Some are simply better than others, although when it comes to the mafia genre, it doesn't get any better thanThe Godfather. Francis Ford Coppola's film portrayed the mob as a criminal organization with all sorts of characters loosely based on real-life people. But as grounded as the film was, you don't exactly think of "realism" when you see it. Thankfully, real-life former mobster Anthony Ruggiano Jr. has some insight into what's real and what's not in The Godfather.
The 1972 epic crime drama revolutionized the industry with a deeply compelling story about Vito and Michael Corleone, a father and son who face their true nature as they commit the ultimate betrayal of their family. Widely considered one of the best movies ever made, The Godfather was a remarkable game-changer...

David Chase was inspired by both fictional mobsters and real-life gangsters when creating The Sopranos' protagonist Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini). Drawing on fictional characters like Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando), The Sopranos changed US television forever, and also added new layers to the gangster genre — tackling subjects like male mental health, and how the mob viewed homosexuality. The Sopranos was also heavily influenced by the real-world crime families associated with the Mafia in contemporary America. For example, an early scene in The Sopranos season 1 sees Tony quizzed on real-life mobster John Gotti.
It's the fact that the influence of these real-world gangsters bleeds into the show that has convinced viewers there's a "real" Tony Soprano. While it's more likely that David Chase amalgamated various fictional and real gangsters to create Tony Soprano, there are several candidates for the real-life inspiration behind James Gandolfini's Sopranos character. Tulsa King season 1 showrunner Terence Winter is no stranger to tales of fictional Mafiosos, but his next project will see him team with the director of the Equalizer movies on a true-life mob drama. Originally joining the writing room of The Sopranos in season 2 of HBO’s hit crime drama, Winter would also go on to create the prohibition era drama Boardwalk Empire, as well as pen Martin Scorsese’s critically acclaimed biopic The Wolf of Wall Street, for which he received his first Academy Award nomination.
While Winter opted to step down as showrunner on Tulsa King season 2, he still remains closely involved with the show as both a writer and executive producer.
Per a new report from Variety, Winter has now been tapped to write a new miniseries for FX based on the life of notorious New York mobster, Salvatore “Sammy the Bull” Gravano. Set to be directed...

In a highly competitive situation, a series based on the life of notorious mobster Salvatore “Sammy the Bull” Gravano has landed at FX for development, Variety has learned exclusively from sources.

Nicholas Pileggi, Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment, Billy Malone, J.J. Sacha, and Scott Greenberg and Rick Yorn of Lbi Entertainment will also executive produce. As Sister Wives Season 19 continues, fans have been thrilled to see Kody's three ex-wives Meri, Janelle, and Christine thriving in a post-Kody world, and Janelle's newest merch venture is a recent example of it.
Each of the so-called "Og three" have handled their newfound freedom in their own ways Christine threw herself into a new relationship, Meri announced a move to Utah, and Janelle has been spending a lot of time with her grown children.
As we've repeatedly pointed out, reality TV often lags significantly behind "real life," and this season of Sister Wives began back in late 2022.
Back in September, Janelle announced she'd be selling shirts in an Instagram post, but that merch was not expressly linked with Sister Wives.
Earlier this week, Janelle shared an Instagram Story about Sister Wives related shirts, and while the Story has since expired, fan interest in snagging one of the tops has not.

Don Q follows the title character, played by Armand Assante, a Little Italy resident who delusionally believes himself to be a mob boss. When an ex-con comes to town and threatens real danger, Don Q must grow into his role as he engages in a turf war.
Asked how he gets himself into the headspace of a mob boss, Pastore shared the story by way of explanation. “I was doing a concert down at Wonder Bar for my birthday, and some of my friends came over to the table,” he told uInterview founder Erik Meers. “I wanted them to meet my family because my granddaughter was playing in the band for us that night. When my friends walked away, my ex-wife said, ‘Who are those guys?’ I said, ‘Those are the gangstas.

Veteran actor Armand Assante shared what drives his new mob-boss movie Don Q and why he believes mafia movies have withstood the test of time.
The 2024 film Don Q follows the title character, played by Assante, a Little Italy resident who delusionally believes himself to be a mafia boss. When a real-deal ex-con returns to the area, Don and his loyal recruit soon find themselves in a ruthless back and forth.
Assante reflected on what made his character a standout narrator. “I think that people kind of get a kick out of this character because he is very much delusional in a lot of ways, not just because he is off his medication, but because he considers the possibility of, ‘How do I resolve my problems, how do I resolve the inhumane things I’m seeing in my own arena,’” he told uInterview founder Erik Meers.

Quick Links Jim and Pam Were on Their Honeymoon The Episode Received Mixed Reviews Jim Was Missing From Two Other Episodes
The fantastic array of characters on The Office is part of the undying appeal of the series. The show first aired in 2005 and went on to develop interesting storylines that had viewers hooked until its very last episode in 2013. The main characters all helped keep the narratives moving forward, with viewers watching their personal lives unfold and their lives at work. A few characters appeared only once on the show, adding more comedy and drama to the plot, while, on the other hand, some characters were noticeably absent in one episode after appearing on the show consistently.
Jim started on The Office in the first episode, working at his desk as a salesman, which was only feet away from Pam's desk. The two were evidently made for each other,...

The Apprentice explores Roy Cohn's mentorship of a young Donald Trump, leading audiences to wonder about the real-life figure behind the movie. Directed by Ali Abbasi, the 2024 film follows Trump in the 1970s and '80s as a young businessman with high hopes for his future. He begins the film sitting at a high-end social club, admiring the great and wealthy men around him, and it isn't until meeting Roy Cohn that he acquires the tools perceived as being necessary to become like them. Cohn and Trump are played by Jeremy Strong and Sebastian Stan in The Apprentice's cast.
Abbasi's movie introduces Roy Cohn as a cold, calculating, practically devil-like figure who teaches Trump how to mingle with the wealthy and survive in a cutthroat business world. By the point audiences are introduced to Cohn, he's already an established figure socializing with the likes of Tony Salerno,...

Its perhaps too early to say, but Tulsa King appears to be flowing through the same rivulet as Breaking Bad regarding critical and fan reception. The first season was good, but it didnt cause anyone to cancel a date. Season 2, on the other hand, has been excellent so far and currently boasts a flawless 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
This is hardly surprising, considering that the show has a wide variety of ingredients that make it tasty. It is produced by the great Taylor Sheridan and written by Terence Winter, who, throughout his long career, has been a magnificently sensitive observer of gangster dynamics. Besides that, the Season 2 cast has names like Frank Grillo and Neal McDonough, who all deliver vivid, well-rounded performances.
Tulsa King CrimeDrama Release Date November 11, 2022Cast Sylvester Stallone, Martin Starr, Jay Will, Max Casella, Domenick Lombardozzi, Vincent Piazza, Garrett Hedlund, Andrea Savage

Trust a mother to get her kid’s head on straight — and that’s exactly what sets everything in motion on The Penguin Season 1, Episode 1.

The Sopranos' ensemble cast adds depth to the modern mob life storyline, creating a realistic feel uncommon in crime genre. Several actors with real-life mob connections bring authenticity to the show, similar to Scorsese films like Goodfellas. The use of former mobsters in the cast subtly enhances the viewing experience of the series, blurring the line between reality and fiction.
Though James Gandolfini stole the show with his commanding performance on The Sopranos, the show is brought to life by its impressive ensemble. Among the various characters in the series, several of them are played by actors who have had various experiences and connections to real-life organized crime in the past. It’s a Hollywood cliche you have to hire the nicest actors to play the meanest people, and on “Under the Bridge” a group of struggling, lonely teens committing violent crimes certainly qualifies.
Unlike other shows about teens, where the cast is pushing 30, the kids on Hulu’s miniseries all are played by actors aged 12 to 16. Hulu's latest true-crime miniseries adapts Rebecca Godfrey's Under the Bridge, a searing book that explores the 1997 murder of Canadian teenager Reena Virk (played in the series by newcomer Vritika Gupta). The true story of Reena Virk's murder endures because of the way it implicates the teen's peers. Something of an outsider in her small town of Victoria, Reena finds herself drawn to the girls of the Seven Oaks foster home. The group, which is helmed by the ever-manipulative Josephine Bell, treats Reena terribly. Still, she can't help but chase the highs that come with being Jo's frenemy.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Under the Bridge Season 1, Episodes 1 & 2.] Hulu’s true-crime drama Under the Bridge brings to life the real-life story of Reena Virk (Vritika Gupta), a teen girl who was murdered in the ’90s and almost every one of her peers is currently a suspect as the limited drama series unfolds. But some are more suspicious than others as tough-girl Josephine “Jo” Bell (Chloe Guidry) projects as mob boss-aura proclaiming herself the “John Gotti of Seven Oaks,” the boarding house for wayward teen girls. Meanwhile, is there more to Warren Glowatski (Javon “Wanna” Walton)? It’s quite clear that Reena’s pal Dusty (Aiyana Goodfellow) is cracking under pressure as investigator Cam Bentland (Lily Gladstone) seeks answers surrounding the crime. Bettina Strauss/Hulu And yet, not everything is as it appears, allowing for the mystery to unfold little by little. When it came time to take on these roles, the teens at...

Reena Virk's murder sparked a national panic about teen violence, portrayed without judgment in the miniseries. The "Bic girls" of Seven Oaks are seen as disposable, like a Bic lighter, by the town and cops. Under the Bridge explores how society discards women, perpetuating cycles of violence in a haunting true crime story.
The first episode of Hulu's Under the Bridge miniseries introduces not just Reena Virk (Vritika Gupta), the Canadian teenager who was brutally murdered in 1997, but a group of tight-knit teens from the town's Seven Oaks foster home. Helmed by ringleader Josephine Bell (Chloe Guidry), the Seven Oaks teens refer to themselves as "Bic girls" while sharing stories and cigarettes with Rebecca Godfrey (Riley Keough), a wayward writer who finds a renewed interest in the culture of her hometown. Based on the book of the same name by the real-life Godfrey, Under the Bridge is a haunting investigation.

Review: While crime exists worldwide, North America’s glut of true crime stories is centered on the United States. We often take for granted that our neighbors in the Great White North are more than America’s nice neighbors or denizens of the Fifty-First State. Canada is a massive country with its own good and bad, with crimes just as heinous as anything we see in America. While the events depicted in Under The Bridge are not as scary as serial killer tales, the story it retells is every bit as disturbing.

The new Hulu series Under the Bridge is infuriating. That’s not to say the series is not well done or crafted—in fact, far from it. This is bold storytelling that challenges the viewer to rethink their misconceptions. The result is appointment-viewing television that, by the end of the series, showcases some uncommonly powerful performances.
No, it’s infuriating because of what transpires from “actual” events. It’s tragic and horrific, and words cannot adequately describe the atrocities that occurred in the small, picturesque seaside town in British Columbia, Alberta, Canada. Under the Bridge is where the key players wish the story stayed, never seeing the light of day.

Dick Wolf’s new partnership with Netflix, Homicide: New York, celebrates the city’s bluest – those investigators who specialize in the aftermath of untimely death. The true crime docuseries follows the format of Law & Order, and is forced to dramatically condense the work done by law enforcement, like so many dusty boxes in an evidence room.
“On the island of Manhattan, there are two detective squads dedicated to homicides: Manhattan North and Manhattan South,” each episode begins. “They investigate the most brutal and difficult murders. These are their stories.” Central Park is a shared story for all New Yorkers, whether their own neighborhood boasts Tompkins Park, Morningside Park, or through the arch at Washington Square.
Native New Yorkers of all boroughs, and tourists from around the world visiting Strawberry Fields in the ‘90s probably saw Daphne Abdela and Christopher Vasquez rollerblading out of the corners of their eyes. Central Park was their neighborhood park.

The weekend before Halloween, it would be easy to expect audiences to sit down for some spooky TV. But looking at the streaming and linear charts for the Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report for the week of Oct. 23 to 29, you’d be forgiven if you couldn’t guess the season.
Only two programs across both charts this week could be deemed Halloween-adjacent: the Netflix horror drama “The Fall of the House of Usher” in seventh on the streaming chart after several weeks in the top 10 and “Goosebumps,” on Hulu and Disney+, which lands at ninth on the streaming chart.
Beyond those, the familiar fare of movies and prestige TV content is dominating the streaming chart with reality and competition series accounting for most of the linear top 10. Case in point: “No Hard Feelings,” a summer theatrical release starring Jennifer Lawrence, tops the streaming chart. The comedy drew 2.4 million households during...

Loose lips, of course, eventually doomed Gotti, the Eighties New York crime boss who couldn’t stop talking into the bugs...
