- The 7th Earl of Lucan. One of the most controversial disappearances in history. On 7 November 1974, the Lucan family's nanny, Sandra Rivett, was found murdered in the basement of the Lucan household (46 Lower Belgrave Street, London). Lord Lucan was believed to have been responsible. The Ford Corsair he was driving was found abandoned near the docks of New Haven on Sunday, November 10, 1974 by the police. He was never seen again.
- Descendant of George Charles Bingham, 3rd Earl of Lucan, who commanded the Light Cavalry during the Crimean War and who precipitated the infamous Charge of the Light Brigade, led by Lord Cardigan, on October 25, 1854.
- The last person to see him alive before he disappeared was Mrs. Susan Maxwell-Scott at their home in Uckfield, East Sussex at 1:15 am on November 8, 1974.
- Member of the Clermont Set.
- At the request of Ian Fleming, who knew him well, he was given a screen test for the role of James Bond.
- There was a half-hearted attempt to suggest that his face, aged, matched that of a homeless man in India.
