Songwriter ("Betty Co-Ed"), composer, author, and physical-fitness
advocate, educated at Notre Dame University. In World War I he was an
infantry captain in the US Army, then attended Culver Military Academy
between 1920 and 1923. He became entertainment director at the former
Edgewater Beach Hotel in Chicago, Illinois, and had radio and
television programs over WGN in Chicago for over twenty years,
including "Your Figure, Ladies". He also authored a book by the same
title, and was a record producer as well. Joining ASCAP in 1952, his
musical collaborators included Guy Lombardo, Ted Fiorito, Jule Styne
and Arnold Johnson. His popular-song compositions also include
"Saturday Afternoon", "Joe College", "Tonight", "She Loves Me Just the
Same", "In a Canoe", "When I Wrote a Song", and "Charlie Cadet".
