An extensive archive of David Bowie’s life, work and legacy has been acquired by the Victoria and Albert Museum.
More than 80,000 items, including handwritten lyrics, letters, sheet music, original costumes, fashion, photography, film, music videos, set designs, album artwork and awards, will go on display in 2025.
The exhibition, spanning six decades of the “Starman” singer and cultural icon’s career, will be made available to the public at the newly created David Bowie Centre for the Study of Performing Arts, which will open in Stratford’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
It will allow fans and researchers alike to get up close and gain new insights into Bowie’s creative process like never before, the V&a said.

She can do it all! Kate Middleton may be just weeks away from welcoming her third little prince or princess into the world, but she's still busy taking on the world… sorry, we mean new royal duties! Kate, 36, made history this week when she was announced as the first-ever royal patron of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Kensington Palace confirmed the exciting news with a Twitter statement on Monday, March 26. "The Duchess of Cambridge is to become the first Royal Patron of the Victoria and Albert Museum. Furthering Her Royal Highness's interest in the visual arts, photography, and design, she formally takes up the [V&A] Patronage from today," the message read. Although the museum has long enjoyed an association with the royal family, it has never had official support in the form of a patron. Kate at the V&A Museum in 2017. The Victoria & Albert Museum in London is filled with nude statues of women and men — which is why one mom was “perplexed” after she was asked to cover up while breastfeeding her child.
The Twitter user @Vaguechera posted about her experience after they visited the museum on Saturday, saying, “Flashed a nanosecond of nipple while #breastfeeding and was asked to cover up in @V_and_A courtyard. Am perplexed….”
She then tweeted out photos of the various nude statues they came across during their day out — including one that was breastfeeding a child.

Lucy Prebble, playwright, 30
Prebble is the creator of Secret Diary Of A Call Girl. Her latest play, Enron, transferred to the West End and Broadway in 2010.
When we were auditioning actors for Enron, they'd talk to the director, not to me, and it occurred to me they thought I was a secretary taking notes. Then one said, "Who's the writer?" and the director said, "She is." This guy just looked at me and went, "You wrote this? Ok..." and nodded. It was beautiful because I felt like he was giving me a lot of respect.
I've always written – diaries, terrible poetry when I was younger, that sort of thing – but I didn't think about showing anyone until I was at university. I fell in with a group of...
