“The showcase is a celebration of a cornucopia of new, wonderful points of view, and importantly, it’s a celebration of this vital step for these filmmakers,” said Blanchett. “From here, we know that these helmers can start shaping and remaking the industry.”
Blanchett appeared virtually, delivering her remarks from London, while Dr. Smith, Francini and Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria were on hand at Netflix’s Tudum Theater in Hollywood to celebrate with the filmmakers and some of their cast.

The hero wanders through his scenes, casually purposeful. His shirts fit like they were tailored for him, even though nothing about his particular kind of attractiveness suggests that he’s fussed over it. He keeps up a steady, teasing patter; the characters who aren’t his friends reveal themselves in their inability to keep up with him. When he finds himself in mortal danger, he quickly shakes it off. When a sexy lady crosses his path, he flirts exactly enough to intrigue her. What makes him cool, above all, is that we can tell coolness isn’t something he’s ever bothered to think about: his every move seems effortless. But if leading a show like Bad Monkey really were as easy as Vince Vaughn makes it look, everyone would do it.

Justified star Walton Goggins made an appearance in the series revival Justified: City Primeval, and recently shared his thoughts on the potential for a second season involving Boyd Crowder.
Fans of Justified were no doubt thrilled when the show made a triumphant return with Justified: City Primeval in 2023, but expectations for a second season went through the roof when a familiar character made his return in the final episode. Goggins, speaking with TV Insider on the red carpet at the Gotham TV Awards, addressed a possible reunion between Crowder and Raylan Givens in a second season. "Oh yeah, everyone wants to do another lap of Justified," Goggins said. "Its just a matter of timing and whether or not FX wants to pick it up."

Justified: City Primeval brings back old characters and introduces new ones in a gripping story set in Detroit. The miniseries is based on Elmore Leonard's City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit and blends Western and city noir elements. The impressive cast, including Timothy Olyphant, Boyd Holbrook, and Aunjanue Ellis, contribute to the success of Justified: City Primeval.

When "Justified: City Primeval" signed off last night, the limited series finale was expected to be the final word on Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant). After all, fans of the straight-shooting, contemplative modern cowboy got six seasons with the character, plus a surprise bonus in the form of the revival series -- an adaptation of an Elmore Leonard story that didn't originally feature Raylan. While Justified: City Primeval marks the return of Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, he's the only character from Justified who has returned for its sequel. The limited series has taken Raylan out of his reasonably stable (but still eventful) life in Florida and thrown him into the middle of chaos in Michigan. When Raylan crosses a judge who later ends up dead, he finds himself matching wits with the judge's ruthless killer.
Since City Primeval takes place in an entirely new state and more than a decade after the events of the original series, it's no surprise that most of the cast and characters are brand new. Many of them, however, are played by actors who will be recognizable to TV viewers. And all of them are far different from anyone that Raylan came across during his years in Kentucky.

Justified: City Primeval director Michael Dinner wants the revival's past references to service the characters. The revival aims to establish its own identity by shifting the setting from Miami to Detroit, signaling a fresh start. The introduction of Raylan's teenage daughter and new characters adds depth and evolution to the story, avoiding heavy reliance on nostalgia.
Justified: City Primeval director Michael Dinner sheds light on how the show's past influences the revival installment and teases future cameos. Timothy Olyphant reprises his famous role as Raylan Givens for FX's Justified: City Primeval, which includes an early reference to the show's original run. In the revival's episode 2, "Riverbrook," there's a reference to how the 2010 pilot ended with Raylan shooting a man on a rooftop. That moment itself is ultimately somewhat subverted, standing as proof of Raylan's dangerous shortcomings, and it's brought up again in the revival.

She plays Willa Givens, the daughter of Timothy Olyphant’s charming U.S. Marshal, Raylan Givens, and it’s a role she understands better than anyone as the real-life daughter of the series’ leading man. The younger Olyphant may have grown up on the Justified set, but she still had to go through a lengthier audition process than usual to play Willa. Ultimately, she earned the role by capturing Willa’s unlikely combination of street smarts and mischievous naiveté.
Vivian knew full well that claims of nepotism would come her way following New York Magazine’s highly publicized piece on the “nepo baby,...

[This story contains spoilers for Justified: City Primeval‘s two-episode premiere and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.]
From Logan and Sandman to Indiana Jones and Raylan Givens, Boyd Holbrook has a knack for being a thorn in the hero’s side.
Holbrook recently returned to the big screen in James Mangold’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which marked the conclusion of Harrison Ford’s 42-year tenure as the title character of Indiana Jones. The Kentucky native played Klaber, a neo-Nazi wannabe who served as Jürgen Voller’s (Mads Mikkelsen) top lieutenant, resembling Holbrook’s role as Donald Pierce in Mangold’s Oscar-nominated film, Logan (2017). Despite some early reservations over the similar parts, Holbrook couldn’t resist the opportunity to work with Ford and help say goodbye to his iconic and daring archaeologist.

Now living in Miami, 15 years after leaving Kentucky behind, U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) is finding that being the father of 15-year-old girl can be more challenging than dealing with bad guys, ensuring that a healthy work-life balance isn’t likely to ever happen. Finding himself in Detroit with violent sociopath Clement Mansell (Boyd Holbrook) in his crosshairs, Raylan is hunting a killer who is unpredictable and dangerous, and who cracks his cool exterior and rankles him just enough to make him determined to see it through to the end.

Original Justified actor Walton Goggins explains why his character, Boyd Crowder, isn't a part of Justified: City Primeval. In the role of Boyd, Goggins appeared in every season of the original Justified series. Though he was originally meant to die in the premiere episode, Boyd was kept around after executive producer Graham Yost and test audiences responded favorably to Goggins' performance. In the process, Boyd went from a guest character to one of the show's most memorable regulars.
In an interview with The Wrap conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strike, Goggins addressed why he isn't a part of the Justified: City Primeval cast. He mentioned, in part, that it "isn't the right place and time" and added that the choice to stay out of Justified's revival wasn't "one-sided." Still, Goggins praises lead actor Timothy Olyphant for his lead role as Raylan Gives, in addition to complimenting new antagonist Boyd Holbrook.

The following contains spoilers for Justified: City Primeval Episode 1, "City Primeval," which debuted Tuesday, July 18 on FX.
Elmore Leonard's iconic hero Raylan Givens makes a comeback in Justified: City Primeval, which is an interesting new adventure for the stalwart U.S. Marshal. It's not based on a Raylan Givens story -- Leonard's novel City Primeval centered on a cop named Raymond Cruz. But Raymond and Raylan have a few things in common, and people who've read the book will recognize elements in the miniseries' opening episode, which efficiently sets up a push and pull between TV's most unique hero and the Motor City.
It's been 15 years since the Justified series finale, and life in Florida isn't all sunshine for Raylan. His daughter Willa -- portrayed by Timothy Olyphant's daughter Vivian Olyphant -- is now a young woman breaking people's noses. And there's the pickup truck that runs them off the road,...

Nearly eight years after the conclusion of the original series, “Justified” has returned to FX. Tuesday marks the premiere of “Justified: City Primeval,” a continuation of the series that ran for six seasons.
From showrunners Dave Andron and Michael Dinner, “Justified: City Primeval” continues the story of Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant). After leaving Kentucky for Miami, Raylan continued to work as a U.S. Marshall and raise his daughter. But when an elusive criminal known as The Oklahoma Wildman (Boyd Holbrook) emerges in Detroit, Raylan will have to uproot his life in his pursuit of law and order.

Fans of the FX series Justified were fortunate enough to get six prodigious seasons of one of the best neo-Westerns ever put on television from 2010-2015. The show’s critical success was in no small part due to the stellar supporting cast throughout its run. Fans not only gravitated towards Timothy Olyphant’s Kentucky-fried charm as the no-nonsense Raylan Givens, but found a connection with the men and women Raylan worked with, the women he loved, and the larger-than-life outlaws he came across.
It will surprise many to hear that Justified: City Primeval barely even mentions Kentucky, or the characters that were a part of Raylan’s life for those six years. Kentucky is far behind Raylan, and that includes his long term fraternal-nemesis, Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins) who isn’t a part of this limited series. “We dug coal together.”
Timothy Olyphant closed out Justified in 2015 with those powerful final words, an ode to his character Raylan Givens’ complicated relationship with his home Harlan County, his longtime friend-turned-enemy Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins), and even himself. For those who stuck through the FX modern Western’s six seasons, it was a perfect encapsulation of the journey: from the Bennetts to the Crowes and everyone in between — the legend of Drew Thompson to a stiff drink of Pappy Van Winkle — the Justified community dug coal together.

"My memory is, and I realize that’s not that reliable, but my memory is I said way back when that I’d be interested in coming back, getting the gang together again after some time," he explained. U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) had a time-honored tradition during the six seasons of the original “Justified.” The rakish law man would chase a baddie across Kentucky back roads and trailer parks. Bullets flew, and moonshine was consumed. Still, Givens always made time for a philosophical and deep conversation with his prey before the final showdown. Raylan would learn something humanizing about his nemesis’ motivation and, inevitably, realize he himself could be a dick on occasion. These talks often featured Boyd Crowder, Givens’ frenemy played by Walton Goggins with a mouthful of Biden-white teeth, a shock of black hair and buckets of country wisdom. They were so humanizing that you often forgot Boyd was a white supremacist turned drug dealer.
In “Justified: Primeval City,” Givens’ nemesis is killer and White Stripes aficionado Clement Mansell aka the Oklahoma Wildman. At a crucial moment, Mansell (Boyd Holbrook) sizes up the now middle-aged Givens.

The original “Justified,” developed by Graham Yost from Elmore Leonard’s book, “Fire in the Hole,” stands the test of time for several reasons. Its case-per-season approach makes each new investigation as accessible as it is arresting. Its star, U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant), is a classic cowboy in a modern world, not always bucking against the trends but still stubbornly adhering to his own sense of right and wrong. Olyphant’s soft drawl and charming fortitude — peppered with terse quips and curt advice — go a long way on their own, though any assessment of “Justified” must give equal weight to Boyd Crowder, embodied with iconic verbosity and verve by the great Walton Goggins.
For six seasons, “Justified” thrived as a two-hander; it wasn’t that Raylan and Boyd were always on opposite sides, so much as their lives ran in such consistent parallel to one another that...

In the first episode of the new miniseries Justified: City Primeval, our old friend Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) — the quick-drawing, fast-talking, Stetson-wearing U.S. marshal from Harlan, Kentucky — is called to testify about a fugitive he brought back to Detroit. Defense attorney Carolyn Wilder (Aunjanue Ellis) calls him out for having threatened to put her client in the trunk of a car if he didn’t behave. This is the kind of stunt Raylan pulled all the time during the original run of Justified, and we found it charming as all get-out back then.

Whether it’s Hollywood’s inability to spawn new blockbuster icons or the entertainment industry’s commitment to placating an audience with an insatiable desire for nostalgia, the summer of 2023 has taken on a distinct Twilight-of-the-Action-Gods feeling.
The season started with Arnold Schwarzenegger doing the streaming equivalent of a ’90s Arnold Schwarzenegger classic, now with meditations on fatherhood and approaching retirement, in Netflix’s Fubar. “There are only two kinds of guys out in the street chasing bad guys at your age — ones who got passed over for ‘the big chair,’ and the ones who just love it so much they’re gonna have to be dragged off. Only question is will they be breathing when it happens.”

Timothy Olyphant isn’t hanging up his hat anytime soon. The star and executive producer of “Justified: City Primeval” took the stage after the series premiered at this year’s Atx Television Festival and told a rowdy crowd he would happily return for more seasons.
“Look, I’d show up,” Olyphant said when asked if he would be open to returning as Raylan Givens. “Every time we’ve done this, I’ve had a good time. So I’d show up.”
Earlier in the post-screening Q&a, Olyphant was asked if he felt any trepidation about returning to beloved roles like Raylan in “Justified” and Seth Bullock in “Deadwood.”
“No more than I’d feel about any great part or any great opportunity,” he said. “As far as ‘Deadwood’ versus [‘Justified’], I never thought ‘Deadwood’ would happen. I didn’t honestly quite think I wanted it to happen, and it was such a lovely experience.
