By now, actress Niecy Nash-Betts has more than proved that she can excel in genres other than comedy. A quick look at her past Emmy nominations say as much, with an Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie nod for “When They See Us,” Ava DuVernay’s poignant limited series about the Central Park Five, listed right next to an Outstanding Television Movie nomination as an executive producer of “Reno 911!: The Hunt for QAnon.”
Yes, she can perform it all, but what her work on “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” proves is that Nash-Betts has the ability to elevate projects in a way where one could argue they would not work without her. Playing Glenda Cleveland, the titular serial killer’s next-door neighbor who desperately tried to alert authorities to Dahmer’s evildoing, only to be belittled and dismissed.

While there wasn’t a whole lot that Matthew Flood Ferguson remembered about notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer before he boarded Netflix’s “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” as the production designer, he did have a vivid memory of his reaction to first learning about the murderer’s youngest murder victim, 14-year-old Konerak Sinthasomphone.
“The one thing I remember is… [that] actually, [Sinthasomphone] escaped, and then the police brought him back to Jeffrey Dahmer; Dahmer lied, said that they were lovers, and they left him there,” Ferguson recollects during a recent webchat with Gold Derby (watch the exclusive video interview above). “And I remember hearing that and just being so horrified by it.”

Plot: After Jeffrey Dahmer’s arrest, his defence team has the ghoulish task of recording hours of interviews with him as he describes the brutal murders he committed during his reign.
Review: Like so many other people, whenever I see a documentary about serial killers show up on Netflix, I binge it. While I’ve yet to dig into Ryan Murphy’s ultra-popular Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, I did check-out Joe Berlinger’s brutal documentary series, Conversations with a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes. This is the latest instalment of what I can only assume is an ultra-profitable series for the streamer, with previous instalments focusing on Ted Bundy & John Wayne Gacy.
What makes these docs so disturbing is that they essentially allow the killers to tell their own stories. While Bundy was elusive until the end, Gary and Dahmer were boastful about their kills, relaying them in gruesome detail.

Netflix has produced its fair share of true-crime dramas throughout the years, but nothing has been quite as chilling as "Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story," which documents the life of the infamous serial killer through intimate vignettes of his troubling life. The 10-episode series, starring Evan Peters, gives viewers a sense of what it was like for Dahmer's family, his victims, and even his neighbors - Glenda Cleveland and Pamela Bass - to watch as his grueling crimes unfolded.
While the show has garnered controversy for glorifying Dahmer's crimes and exploiting the trauma his victims endured, as of Sept. 27, the show is currently Netflix's most-watched title, amassing more than 196 million viewing hours in the past week, per CNN. The hype behind "Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story" aligns with the actual hysteria that possessed Americans when Dahmer's story was first revealed.
But how much of the show is rooted in fact?...

Netflix’s “Dahmer,” created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, wants to offer a more progressive view of Milwaukee serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, who killed 17 men and boys over the course of a decade and a half.
“Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” which is indeed the title, aims for that progressive viewpoint in two ways but also, sneakily, a third one.
The series considers how the internal failures of law enforcement ultimately enabled Dahmer’s killing spree; a bulk of the 10 hour-long episodes are also devoted to giving voice and face to the victims often overlooked by similar fictionalized serial killer shows and movies; yet it also, in showing Dahmer’s occasional flashes of guilt or self-doubt or feelings of futility about the murders and himself, succeeds whether on purpose or not in humanizing him to a degree.
That’s already proven to be a huge problem for...

Exclusive: Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, a limited series co-created by longtime collaborators Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, has been greenlighted by Netflix, with Richard Jenkins co-starring, Carl Franklin directing and Janet Mock writing and directing. Production is slated to begin in January.
The order comes on the heels of the strong launch of Murphy’s Netflix series Ratched, which has ranked No. 1 on the streamer in multiple territories around the world.
Monster chronicles the story of one of America’s most notorious serial killers, largely told from the point of view of Dahmer’s victims, and dives deeply into the police incompetence and apathy that allowed the Wisconsin native to go on a multiyear killing spree. The series dramatizes at least 10 instances where Dahmer was almost apprehended but ultimately let go. The series also is expected to touch on white privilege, as Dahmer, a clean-cut,...
