CNN anchor Soledad O’Brien grilled former Republican National Committee Chairman Mel Martinez on her program on Friday regarding the Gop’s renewed efforts to appeal to minority voters. Martinez was asked about one South Carolina Rnc delegate who claimed that minority voters “simply don’t know us.” O’Brien asked Martinez if he agreed with that assessment or, she said, is it possible minority voters really did know the Republican Party and “decided they don't like you?"...

As the retirements of Jon Kyl and Jim Webb make plain, the era of Senator-for-Life Strom Thurmond is over. David A. Graham reports on what's pushing senators out early-and more possible retirees, from John Ensign to Ben Nelson.
When Arizona Republican Jon Kyl announced that he wouldn't run for a fourth term in the Senate, it wasn't exactly a surprise-he'd been rumored to be considering the move for months. But in the past, the very idea that a senator in his position wouldn't run would have been shocking. This week! A look at how gay Frasier was and how brilliant Modern Family is, a chat with United States of Tara's gay couple Michael Hitchcock and Sammy Sheik, and an exploration of bad performances in hit movies. Plus, truly unlikely gays!
Have a question about gay male entertainment? Contact me here (and be sure and include your city and state and/or country!)
Q: When it comes to positive portrayals of gay characters on TV, I've seen coming out stories, displays of affection, and lots of sweaty workout scenes, but I don't think I've ever seen the love and loyalty that is portrayed between Cam and Mitchell on Modern Family. Do you agree that the "gas station scene" – where Cam, as Fizbo the Clown, mightily defends Mitchell against a jerk – qualifies as one of the most natural, and therefore important, portrayals of gay (or straight) love we've seen on TV?...
